In what ways does your media
project use, develop and challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?

Important Conventions:Front Cover
Use-
• Like all music magazines I chose a 3 colour palette
of blue, black and white.
• I decided to include a banner on my front cover,
these are common in Q.
• I have included a range of different fonts on the
front cover.
• Repetition of the magazines’ house colour
throughout the front cover.
Challenging Conventions-
• In contrast with the artists found on
the covers of NME and Q my model
is smiling.
• The picture of my artist is also in a
close up, this is often unseen on the
front of music magazines.
I used the photo studio for my
music magazine photo shoot,
because a white background is a
common convention of my
magazine genre.

Contents PageImportant Conventions:
Use-
• My contents page has been
split into Features and Regulars.
• I have included pictures from
other stories.
• Like Q I show a picture of the
front cover on the contents
along with a small description.
• I follow the convention of
large page numbers to
highlight other stories.
Developing Conventions-
• Q magazine tend to have the word
‘Contents’ along with the issue number, so
to develop and change this convention for
my own magazine I just chose to have the
issue number in a large font across the
contents page.
![Page 5: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Double Page SpreadImportant Conventions:
Use-
• I use the idea of the watermark in the
background of the double page spread, at
technique seen in a variety of magazines.
• I have a selection of fonts reflecting the
personality of my artist.
• There is a quotation from the interview
in order to entice the reader.
Developing Conventions- One convention was to have
a large letter behind the text as a drop capital, I
developed this by adding a drop capital for the text
and also a large letter in the background, the first letter
of my artists name.
Challenging Conventions- Something I noticed was
that for my genre of magazine, in many double page
spreads I analysed they did not include a smaller
picture with a caption, therefore I challenged this by
adding a picture.

How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
![Page 7: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
The Social Group For My Magazine
It was important to get the Mise en Scene of my pictures right to clearly
highlight the social group my magazine targets.
Setting, costume and hair and makeup were significant to setting the
social group for my magazine along with selecting the right models.
My music magazine is solely for mainstream music in particular, pop.
However, I felt it was important to leave my genre of magazine open
to a variety of music styles as demonstrated through Q magazine and
Rolling Stone.
Like magazines Q and NME on a
regular basis, my music magazine only
shows white models, who represent
the pop culture of today.

The Use of Mise En Scene To Represent a Social Group
My mise en scene was essential to illustrate the social group that my music magazine represents.
I asked my models to bring along a number of things to the shoot including costume changes,
makeup and jewellery.

What kind of media institution
might distribute your media
product and why?
![Page 10: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
IPC Distribution
IPC Media would be a perfect institution for distributing my music magazine to my target
audience between the ages of 16 and 25. They already represent the music magazine
NME and magazines for my target audience such as Teen Now and InStyle.
According to their website, ”As the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher we
engage with 26m UK adults - almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men.”
![Page 11: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Who would be the audience for
your media product?
![Page 12: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Target AudienceMy music magazine is aimed at and audience of mainstream, mainly pop listeners
who are girls between the ages of 16 and 25.
I chose this because I am personally a mainstream/ pop listener and therefore know
the genre well. However, I know that this type of audience also generates a lot of
money for the music industry and stretches internationally.
I believe that my models represent the target audience well through the Mise en
Scene used.

How did you attract/address your
audience?
![Page 14: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Attracting My Target Audience
Because my audience is between the ages of 16 and
25 I needed to include references to social networking
sites and the internet which is a large part of the lives
of my target audience.
I conducted a survey of 15 people who were part of
my target audience about what they would like to see
in my music magazine. This was very useful as it
helped me to find out what my target audience look
for in a magazine and what they would like to see in
my magazine.

What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
![Page 16: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Key Tools for Blogger-
Blogger was an important part of my ongoing project which allowed me to gather
all of my work in one place.
I found it very useful when referring back to current music magazine analysis, It
was something I had never used before, however it was easy to use.
I was able to upload all of the photos from the photo shoots and my target
audience research on to one platform.
![Page 17: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
PhotoshopAfter I had taken all of my pictures Photoshop was used to
edit them, I was able to change the brightness of
pictures through Brightness/Contrast, edit out
imperfections such as spots on my models and smooth
out the white back ground which caused some
problems to begin with.

Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
![Page 19: Madeleine Ord Media evaluation presentation](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052623/559c182c1a28ab32598b457a/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Now that I look back at my preliminary task I realise I have certainly learnt a
lot since then and developed many new skills. For example when I first
began my project I Had no idea how to use any of the technology
needed for this project, from the camera to InDesign I had never used
any of it before.
The preliminary task allowed me to use these new technologies for the first
time and grasp how to use them, I also allowed me to overcome the
problems which may have occurred during this project early on.
