Learning Outcomes: Students should be able to:

(i) label the components of blood clotting mechanism correctly

(ii) explain the mechanism of blood clotting mechanism orally

Prior Knowledge: Students have learnt about the concept of circulatory system from the previous topic.Students should be able to achieve:

(a) Knowledge:

(i) Students should be able to state the components of blood clotting mechanism by labeling the diagram.(ii) Students should be able to explain the mechanism of blood clotting orally.

(b) Science Process Skills (SPS)/ Thinking Skills Thinking Strategies (TSTS)/ Manipulative Skills (MS):

(i) Students should be able to predict the problems related to blood clotting.(ii) Students should be able to draw and label the components of blood clotting.

(c) Science Attitudes and Noble Values:

(i) Being thankful to God for giving us a normal and healthy life.

Bleeding finger-appendix 1

Picture 2:

Scab on the skin surface- appendix 2

Introduction to blood clotting mechanism components-Blood clotting mechanism can be defined as a body mechanism to reduce and stop blood loss from the injured blood vessel.-The components of blood clotting involved platelets, clotting factors and damaged cells.

1. Teacher displays 2 different pictures of blood clots and scab.2. Teacher asks students to make a prediction based on the pictures.1. Students give their ideas based on the pictures related with their prior knowledge

Restructuring of Ideas(25 minutes)Blood clotting mechanism- appendix 31. Teacher distributes worksheets of blood clotting mechanism to the students.2. Teacher explains about the blood clotting mechanism using the prepared diagram.3. Teacher asses students understanding by doing activity 1.11. Students are divided into 7 groups.2. Students do the activity 1.1Teaching aids-worksheet

Activity 1.1

Application of Ideas(13 minutes)Problem 1:- Alizee was bleeding at her finger. She found that the bleeding from small cuts that starts and stops over several hours. Doctor verified Alizee had a genetic disease. Can you predict the disease that she suffered?

Teacher asks students to discuss in their group based on the problem given.Students share their ideas with the class.SPS-Prediction-Communication

Reflection & Conclusion

(5 minutes)What they learnt:-the components of blood clotting mechanism

-the mechanism of blood clottingTeacher concludes the lesson for today by repeating what they have learnt.Science attitude and noble valuesThanked to God for his blessing.
