About this book

This is the seventh sourcebook for Macross 2050. Although Mospeada originally

had nothing to do with Macross, they have been irrevocably tied together by the butcheryof Carl Macek that is known as oboTech. !enesis Cli"ber M#$%&A'A (pronounced

PrefaceThe third saga of obotech, 7The +ew !eneration7 was adapted fro" the

8apanese show !enesis Cli"ber Mospeada 9:ik; s;seiki Mospeada<, which actuallydidn=t fare too well in 8apan due to a horrible ti"e slot on $unday "orning. Mospeada

obviously borrowed a lot of ideas fro" Macross (transfor"able "echa, an idol singer,

alien invaders, and so forth* but like $outhern Cross, was not related to Macross in anyway story)wise. 3t is also interesting to note that several of the voice actors fro" Macross

played the voices of so"e of the Mospeada characters, and that "any of the "echa were

also designed by Miki"oto. Although Mospeada didn=t do so hot in ter"s of ratings, itdid well enough to have a short se/uel called, 7>ove, >ive, Alive.7, which served as anepilogue to the original series and was set to "usic, "uch like the Macross epilogue

7?lashback 20-2.7 @ased on the a"ount of design sketches that weren=t shown, it see"s

this show was cut short by as "uch as a doen episodes.Mospeada took place in a ti"e when aliens had con/uered the people of &arth for

a generation. Bhile the people of &arth were under the control of their alien attackers, the

3nbit, there were hu"an forces on Mars who tried to reclai" the &arth in a giant invasionof their ho"e planet. nfortunately "ost of the forces were destroyed by the 3nbit, but a

lone soldier, $tick @ernard survived the attack while losing his girlfriend in the battle. De

then tea"ed up with freedo" fighters he "eets on &arth to take on the 3nbit in hopes of

one day freeing his planet of their presence. Together they battle the 3nbit constantly,"aking their way closer to the 3nbit efles.

Chapter 1 – MospeadaThe &arth of Mospeada before the series was "uch like our own, uneasy peace

that for the "o"ent at least has not blosso"ed into full scale war. The environ"ent was

heavily polluted and with /uickly disappearing oil reserves, scientists scra"bled to find areplace"ent energy source. They found it in hydrogen, the "ost co""on ele"ent in the

Page 3: Macross 2050 RPG: Sourcebook 7 - Mospeada

universe. @urning si"ilar but better than gasoline, li/uid hydrogen beca"e the fuel of

choice for "ost low cost power generation. The use of hydrogen as a fuel had long being

in used with space craft, and this "assive increase in it=s use also eEpanded spacetechnology. $oon after the new "illenniu", a large base was built on the "oon and

hu"anity "ade it=s first steps on the red planet, Mars. These colonies beca"e the new

frontier and "any fled the overcrowded &arth to start again. This push to start anew and beco"e separate fro" &arth was "ost strong on Mars, who because of the distance fro"

the "other planet slowly felt less and less a link. Mars @ase /uickly declared

independence fro" &arth and began enlarging it=s "ilitary for the war sure to co"e. The"ore advanced Mars @ase technology base gave the" a big advantage and helped to

insure it=s victory. @ut like before, warfare stopped and life went on as nor"al.

3n the year 2050, however, that all changed when the solar syste" was invaded by

aliens called the 3nbit. Appearing in an instant as bea"s of pure energy, their arrivalravaged the planet before the aliens were even sighted. At first they appeared to rese"ble

giant "etallic bugs, but these were only "echanied ar"or which the aliens "oved about

in. This "echa could "ove and react as fast as a hu"an, fly and featured heavy ar"or

that only tanks could get through. nable to fight the 3nbits effectively, the &arth based"ilitaries and the countries they protected were defeated by the aliensF "ight. A few

li"ited shuttles and space ships escaped racing first for the Moon and then Mars @ase.After the troops fro" the Moon failed to return after attacking the alien invaders, Mars

@ase eEpected the invaders to co"e after the". @ut the attack never ca"e, the 3nbit only

interested in the planet they had captured. At first Mars @ase sent their best "ilitary unitsto see if they could "ake any head way against the aliens, but suffered the sa"e fate as

the rest.

Mars @ase turned into a "ilitary "achine al"ost overnight, with al"ost all

resources going into the recla"ation of &arth. Bith so"e of the "ost advancedtechnology available, Mars @ase scientists began to develop ways to defeat the aliens. @y

2060, the children of the soldiers that went to &arth are the neEt generation of Mars @ase

troops and are ar"ed with their own "echa. The Mars @ase "echa was transfor"able between a vehicle "ode for speed and a hu"anoid for" for co"bat. This assault is only

slightly "ore successful then the one thirty years ago. Three years later Mars @ase

launches the $econd &arth ecapture ?orce, consisting of hundreds of ships and "echa.A"ong the" is the 2-st Ar"ored 'ivision, co""anded by >t. Co""ander $tick

@ernard. Though they fought valiantly, the Mars @ase troops are defeated with heavy

losses. 'uring the battle $tick=s fiancGe Marlene ush, is killed and his >egioss crash

lands in $outh A"erica. Turning his sorrow and anguish over Marlene=s death intorevenge, $tick begins his long trek north to destroy efleE %oint, the 3nbit=s "ain hive.

Along the way, $tick encounters several charis"atic individuals who have been

waging their own one)"an wars against the 3nvid. ayH a cocky idealistic wanderer,Iellow @el"ontH a for"er Mars @ase pilot disguising hi"self as a fe"ale pop singer

trouble for the group. The group=s "e"bers beco"e "ore than soldiers, they beco"e

close friends, al"ost a fa"ily.

The Bolf pistol was the standard infantry pistol used by

Mars @ase at the ti"e of the ?irst &arth ecapture Mission.Affectionately referred to as the =$taple gun=, to reduce the sie of

the weapon the bulky energy clip was "ounted in the lower front

of the pistol, snapping into the trigger guard.

3t is a good weapon against hu"an foes, but poor whenused against the ar"or of "ost 3nbit and eventually the Bolf gave

way to the !allant, which had all the features of the Bolf and could be converted into a

Though Mars @ase forces was happy with the Bolf side)ar" series theye"ployed, a need was seen for a "ore potent laser pistol that had a "uch higher chance

of da"aging 3nbit "echa. The $A>) was developed

as a highly accurate ar"or)piercing pistol, trading a

wider destructive bolt for a thinner, "ore longerranged shot that could burn through "ost for"s of

ar"or. 3nternally it was reasonably si"ilar to the

Bolf pistol in the rear half, with the front section ofthe $A>) consisting of a co"pleE set of focusing

"irrors and cooling baffles. The weapon was powered by energy clip stored in the grip.

More accurate over a distance than the Bolf, the pistol could be used as ani"pro"ptu sniping weapon in skilled hands. At shorter ranges the $A>) offered little

advantage, was very heavy and clunky for its sie and never saw wide use outside of

special forces units. 3t was largely replaced by the Mars !allant, which has a detachable

of hu"an pilot and was easy prey for the "echa of the 3nbit. 1astly outnu"bered in"any cases, the drones continued to fight until destroyed. Bhile the MuQin >egioss was

not successful, it would live on and influence the later 8agd 'ark >egioss 'rone.

M=SPEA:A  More of a battlesuit than a full "echa, The ide Ar"or consists of a

transfor"able "otorcycle and the body ar"or onto which it co"bines to for" deadly

high tech knight. The ide Ar"or co"es in three "odels. &ach co"es with a !allant D)

0 "ulti)weapon.The 1)06 @artley is designed for fe"ale troopers and has no built)in weapon

syste"s, but typically "ounts an >)4 rocket cannon on the right front end in Ar"or

@ike "ode and on the right ar" in ide Ar"or "ode. This unit can use any forear"weapon package available.

The 1)0- @lowsperior is designed for co"bat and "ounts twelve "issiles, siE

housed on each side of the chest in ide Ar"or "ode and on the front end in Ar"or @ike"ode. 3n addition, although never seen in the footage there is a pair of retractable blades

"ounted in the front wheel housing, which is "ounted on the ar"s in ide Ar"or "ode.

Bhile the )D weapon package isn=t "andatory, it is typically used on this "odel because

of the additional "issiles for ranged co"bat.

The 1)052 is intended as a e"ergency vehicle for shot down fighter pilotsH one

is loaded in "ost >egioss units.

The Mospeada re/uires the pilot wearing a suit of C1) ar"or for the

connectors built into the Mospeada to connect to the pilot. This leaves the upper ar"s,thighs and head uncovered by the Mospeada, and vulnerable to heavy weapon fire.

There is further designation of the Mospeada according to the forear" weapon

"ount. Thus a @artley unit with an &%) bea" pistol is 1?)06T, and the @lowsperioris usually an )D "odel. The onboard co"puter will auto"atically recognie which

forear" weapon package is installed and adQust the targeting syste" as appropriate. A

Mospeada can "ount two weapon packages, although it is not reco""ended to "iEtypes.

"arfish #S*C  Digh)$peed Troop Carrier

#ne of the "ainstays of the Mars @ase fleet, the !arfish has been in co""on usesince before the 3nbit invasion of &arth. Bith high speed, heavy weaponry, good ar"or,

the ability to carry a large a"ount of cargo or troops coupled with it=s own fighter wing,

the !arfish was a popular choice for the &arth ecapture "issions. The !arfish has a rounded hull re"iniscent of its na"esake, split near the "iddle

be a blocky, rectangular cargo section fro" which the ship=s fighter bays hang. The

!arfish is split into siE decks, four in the "ain hull and two fighter decks. The forwarddecks of the "ain hull are the do"ain of the crew, with the ship=s bridge, "ess hall, and

co""unal bunk roo"s taking up "uch of this space. The "iddle section contains two

large cargo bays, with lifts to "ove supplies down to the upper and lower fighter decks, fro" which three e"ergency use thrusters are "ounted on the back. The rear section ofthe ship houses the !arfish=s three pri"ary engines, "ain reactor and fuel tanks.

Bhile the !arfish features a good a"ount of ar"or plating, it does not rely on this

alone for defense like the Doriont. Mounted the botto" of hull, Qust in front of thefighter bays, is a large tri)barrel energy cannon turret on a rotation point. A co"bined

triple blast is "ore than enough to ravage 3nbit cla" ships or single 3nbit "echa. The

turret is backed up by siE horiontal "issile tube, three each side with two above the

Page 46: Macross 2050 RPG: Sourcebook 7 - Mospeada

"idline of the ship and one tube below. The !arfish pri"arily carries anti)ship "issiles

of li"ited usefulness against s"aller ene"ies such as the 3igaa @oosters. >ike other Mars

@ase designs, the !arfish=s pri"ary anti)"echa defense is provided by it=s own fighterco"pli"ent. The !arfish=s fighter decks can carry a total of nine >egioss Ar"o)?ighters,

4 on the larger upper deck and on the lower deck.

Though the "issiles and turret are "ore than enough to destroy any singleattacking "echa, there were Qust not enough weapons and those is had were useless

against a deluge by suicide runners attacking fro" all sides. Bhen the !arfish is

separated fro" it=s fighter cover, this proved to be the "aQor downfall of all the !arfishinvolved in the Mars @ase ecapture "issions. The !arfish also often suffered the sa"e

proble" as the Doriont, entering &arth=s at"osphere too fast, but it=s heavy ar"or often

saved the" fro" burning up, though their lack of aerodyna"ic controls caused the" to

crash at very high speeds.

#oriont :**S  'ive Transat"ospheric Troop $huttle

The Doriont serves as the pri"ary, heavy lift cargo shuttle for the Mars @ase

"ilitary. Bhile other Mars @ase ship designs can land on a planetary surface through brute force use of their thrusters, the Doriont was designed to operate well in a planetary

at"osphere with large wings and an aerodyna"ic shape co"pared to the !arfish and3kauchi. Mini"al interior space inside the Doriont=s hull is given over to its hu"an

crew, resulting in a cra"ped ship with its full crew co"ple"ent aboard. The pri"ary

neEus of the shuttle is contained in its wedge shaped nose. ?ore"ost is the cockpitKbridgearea, with controls for the pilot and co)pilot, as well as four stations for the sensors,

engineering, co""unications and tactical planning. A door at the rear of the cabin leads

through a short corridor to the Doriont=s s"all eating and sleeping area. Though the

roo" features -0 beds and an eatingKfood preparation table it is /uite s"all and cra"ped, with off duty crew"e"bers sharing the roo" with on duty "e"bers. The co""and cabin

and lounge can be eQected in space to for" an escape pod, with enough e"ergency life)

support aboard to keep the crew alive for 2 days.'own a short stairwell leading fro" the Doriont=s nose into its =neck= is the ide

Ar"or trooper bay, - soldiers in Mospeada ride)ar"or "ode lie in acceleration couches

in the floor, with their stored "ode ide Ar"or above the". @eyond this is a s"allhallway with a set of stairs down to the >egioss access bay. After the ?irst &arth

ecapture Mission, the Tread was developed to eEtend the abilities of the >egioss.

Dowever, the fighter bays on the !arfish and 3kauchi could not easily take the linked

"echa and the Doriont was "odified to carry a co"bined >egioss)Tread on it=sunderbelly, and provide the Doriont with so"e cover of it=s own.

The bay can be raised and lowered, fitting air tight around the >egioss fro" the

"id)nose to Qust in front of the upper "issile pods of the "echa=s retracted ar"s. Bith the bay down the shuttle=s technician can change the >egioss=s fuel cells as well as top up its

life)support syste". There is no access to the linked Tread via the bay, and it is usually

un"anned. Bhen the linked Ar"o)?ighter is ready to be launched, the bay is raised andthe docking grapples release the >egiossKTread >ink)up as it throttles up. ear of the

>egioss bay is the shuttle=s three pri"ary engines, inaccessible by the crew fro" the

inside of the Doriont.

Page 47: Macross 2050 RPG: Sourcebook 7 - Mospeada

The Doriont=s "ain use is its two heEagonal cargo pods hanging fro" the

shuttle=s wings, each capable of carrying a large volu"e of supplies or "echa down to a

planetary surface. &ach pod is self)contained and there is no access fro" inside theDoriont.

The designers assu"ed that the Doriont shuttles would receive protection and

cover fro" the fleet=s fighters and orbiting ships, trading ar"or and weaponry forincreased cargo carrying capacity and "ore powerful thrusters. 3n actual co"bat against

the 3nbit, the fast and highly "aneuverable 3igaa @ooster flew rings around the slower

Doriont and proved hard for their fighter cover to take down. The other option Doriont pilots had was a desperate race to outpace the inco"ing 3nbit, unfortunately "ost were

unable to safely enter &arth=s at"osphere at such high speeds and burned up. Many

surviving Mars @ase troops, scavengers and resistance units searched for downed

Doriont shuttles, the heavily ar"ored cargo pods and their valuable contents usuallyre"aining intact, hopefully arriving before the 3nbit and their hu"an sy"pathiers.

0kauchi S(C  $pace ?ortress Carrier

The 3kauchi heavy carriers for" the backbone of the Mars @ase fleet. They carrythe "aQority of the co"bat fleet, troops, heavy weapons and co""and staff for the "aQor

seg"ents of the ecapture Missions. The class rese"bles the "ore sub"arine style of ships with rectangular body

shape with four engines on each rear corner. The vessel can=t really be described as fast,

but with it=s four "ain engines and two auEiliary engines set on the sides between "ainengines all firing at full thrust gives it good speed for it=s large sie. sually the engines

are only run at a fraction of their full thrust, giving the 3kauchi the long range transport

abilities that the Mars @ase fleet lacked in it=s s"aller ships.

Twelve reasonably large decks are contained inside the 3kauchi=s heavilyar"ored hull, spacious when co"pared with the !arfish and Doriont. The crew decks

feature double)occupancy cabins for the "aQority of the crew with a s"all nu"ber of

luEurious single)occupancy roo"s for senior officers, with roo"y "ess and recreationroo"s for all. The rest of the ship is given over to co"bat supplies and "echa, with the

3kauchi carrying the "aQority of the recapture "issions >egioss wings. $iE launch bays,

three on each side around the center "idline of the ship, are capable of launching up -52>egioss=s in Ar"o)$oldier "ode directly into battle within seconds.

The 3kauchi=s "ain weapons are eight long)range Tri)barrel energy turrets, each

capable of destroying an 3nbit cla" ship or an entire wave of 3nbit "echa. @ut once

ene"y "echa "ake it in close, the ship relies on it=s own "echa to protect it. 3n thestandard battle plans however, the ship=s co"ple"ent of "echa is sent forward to stop the

ene"y=s approach, who often punched holes right through the defending "echa and begin

suicide runs on the now unprotected ships. &ven with it=s very heavy ar"or, 3kauchiships can usually only take few suicide runs fro" 3nbit "echa as their slow rate of turn

"akes it hard to escape fro" fast ene"y "echa like the 3igaa @ooster.

used in the end of the 3nbit conflict as the co""and ship of the Third &arth ecapture

The 3u"o was largely based on the s"aller 3kauchi class carrier. A pair ofsecondary weapons pods were added to the sides to carry a pair of enor"ous particle

cannons and to act as shields to protect the enlarged "ain hull fro" side attacks. A third,

s"aller weapons and hanger pod was added to the lower hull of the ship. $urprisingly, the 3u"o suffers fro" the sa"e flaw as the 3kauchi and !arfish class ships) a lack of

Anti)Aircraft ar"a"ent. Dangar decks and crew spaces were distributed through the

vessel, including several of the /uick)launch bays first used on the 3kauchi. Dowever, there is a large "ain Doriont bay located in the lower body, capable of a high turn)

around rate on the shuttles. There is no co""and citadel, though there is a conning tower

that rises above the "ain hull, on which the C3C is located.

Chapter 3 – *he 0nbitThe 3nbit ca"e fro" a distant star and have been wandering the cos"os seeking

to perfect their evolution. A scene in the first episode i"plied there are "ultiple groups of3nbit spread out through the universe. The 3nbit search for life)giving worlds and then

land on the" to study their ani"al life. After the 3nbit have studied and eEperi"ented on

the life for"s they find, they change their bodies with the knowledge they have gained.#nce they are satisfied theyFve learned all they can fro" the planet they "ove on in

search of another one.

The 3nbit have a hive)like social structure and si"ilarities can be drawn between

the" and other creatures that for" hives like ants and bees. The soldiers seen in "uch ofthe show are nearly "indless beings that obey every order of their leader, efless. The

efless is an advanced being with great intelligence and power who leads all 3nbit on the

 planet fro" efleE %oint.

@ecause of their hive)like society, the 3nbit are not used to dealing with othersentient races. Bhen the 3nbit invaded &arth there were no atte"pts at co""unication.

The 3nbit struck /uickly and reduced the cities and hu"an population considerably. #nce

they settled in they ignored hu"ans. They considered the" inferior beings and saw noreason to attack their off)world colonies. They atte"pted no co""erce or co""unication

with the con/uered hu"ans. 3nbit patrols attacked hu"ans using "ilitary vehicles or any

weapons large enough to threaten 3nbit safety. The result of this policy was the 3nbitre"ained very "ysterious to the hu"an survivors. The only real interest they took in

hu"ans was biological study and the soldier hunts.

The first two invasion fleets, though thoroughly van/uished, left surviving

soldiers behind. efless was concerned that these soldiers "ight cause trouble for the3nbit hives that dotted the landscape, so resources were devoted to hunting the" down.

The very rare and li"ited co""unication that occurred between 3nbit and hu"ans was to

set traps in so"e towns for soldiers. The townspeople would agree to lure soldiers intovulnerable positions in eEchange for not being annihilated by the 3nbit.

As advanced as their "echanical knowledge see"s to be to hu"ans, it is their

biological knowledge that is their true focus. The 3nbit use their bio)technology to createsoldiers and servants that are living reproductions of earlier stages of 3nbit evolution. The

soldiers are inserted into "echanical bodies that fuse with the" and beco"e their

per"anent bodies. #nly the efless can safely re"ove an 3nbit soldier fro" its

"echanical body and place it in another. @ecause the 3nbit focus so keenly on biology

their "echanical technology appears to progress slowly. Although new "echanical bodies are created during their occupation of &arth, the hu"ans advanced their

technology "ore /uickly and were able to attain an e/ual level or better for their co"bat

"achines by the end of the story.@y the end of Mospeada an interesting twist occurs. The 3nbit decide that hu"ans

are the highest life for" on &arth. To continue their progra" of higher evolution efless

starts raising 3nbit servants up by granting the" hu"an bodies. They appear hu"an inevery way eEcept the green color of their blood. Bhat efless didnFt fully understand

was that along with the hu"an body co"es the hu"an "ind. The new hu"an)for" 3nbit

were subQected for the first ti"e to hu"an e"otions and individuality. 3ndividuals like

$orQi and Aisha started /uestioning eflessF decisions while others, like @attra,developed obsessions. This would probably have caused a "aQor upset in 3nbit society but

by the ti"e efless was starting to notice it the third invasion fleet had forced the 3nbit to

leave &arth. Many hu"an)for" 3nbit re"ain behind when the 3nbit depart for another

planet. They integrate into hu"an society. Bhether or not they have an easy ti"e is notknown.

Solu,i 'aser Pistol

As the efless began to anticipate the trans"utation of her race into the

hu"anoid $olugi for", she saw the need for a personal weapon, eventually settling on a pistol. %rior to this ti"e, the 3nbit had relied entirely on the %rotector ar"or in hu"anoid

style co"bat and relations. @ased upon the internal "echanis"s of the Mars !allant D)

To the efless, it is the driving force behind the 3nbit invasion, and their pri"ary

and her search has lead her to the &arth. 3n Mospeada, it is never stated fro" whence the3nbit ca"e fro" aside fro" a reference to being eEtra)galactic. +or is there any real sense

of how long the 3nbit have been on this evolutionary /uest.To aid her in understanding evolution, the efless creates a 7genesis pit7 deep in

the Qungles of $outh A"erica. There, she so"ehow gets her hands on the '+A of

dinosaurs and other early ani"als, eEtinct on &arth for "illions of years, and grows

Chapter – 0nto MacrossThis chapter includes notes and suggestions for bringing Mospeada into a

Macross canon storyline.

Option 1  3nstead of being set on &arth, the Mospeada setting could take place on a

distant colony world. The 3nbit invaded the colony, and instead of the recla"ation forces

launching fro" Mars, they could be launching fro" that colonyFs "oon or the neEt planetof the solar syste"H possibly even fro" Mars if the colony is close. The 3nbit are not

likely to be a relic of the %rotoculture (the %rotoculture preferred proEy warfare with

troops that look like the"*. 3tFs not i"probable that the 3nbit could have been engineered by so"e rogue faction of the %rotoculture as a variant Rentraedi series weapon, or that

they were si"ply another life for" fro" the edge of the galactic ri". Dowever, keeping

in line with the actual story, the 3nbit were fro" another galaEy co"pletely anywayH possibly a degenerate offshoot of the 1aQra.

Option 2  se parts of it. The Mospeada would "ost likely be an instant favorite for +$pace Marines and special ops personnel. The >egioss and Tread could be the first steps

into researching variable fighters that can co"bined to "aEi"ie co"bat capability.
