Back Cover: A novel method to prepare a three-dimen- sional nano-structured protein hydrogel (3-D NPH), which is composed of protein-polymer hybrid nanoparticles has been discovered. The 3-D NPH can be easily prepared by dispensing a protein and polymer mixture on a substrate (as shown on the cover). Surprisingly, gold particles conjugated with protein A diffuse into the 3-D NPH which is made of Mouse IgG through the pores. The protein chips made using this 3-D NPH method show a tremendously improved sensitivity in detecting protein-protein interac- tions as compared to that of direct protein immobilization methods. Further details can be found in the article by H. Tanaka, T. Isojima, M. Hanasaki, Y. Ifuku, H. Takeuchi, H. Kawaguchi, and T. Shiroya* on page 1287.
