Joseph Suidan

IATA, Head of Ground Operations

The company was incorporated in September 1997 as MacroAsia Airport Services Corporation (MASCORP) with the vision of being the most preferred ground handling company in the Philippines.

MASCORP had Air Philippines Inc. as its maiden client, handling about a hundred flights per week on May 14, 1999.

In the last quarter of 1999, MASCORP entered into a joint venture with Ogden Aviation Group, Hongkong to strengthen the core business and expand international resource; the company was then known as MacroAsia Ogden Aviation. January 2001 marked the acquisition

of Thai Airways International PLC as the company’s first foreign carrier client in Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Manila. In the 3rd quarter of 2001, the 30% stake of Ogden Aviation was acquired by John Menzies PLC, a subsidiary of the Menzies group of Edinburgh, Scotland. Thereafter, the company came to be known as MacroAsia Menzies Airport Services Corporation until early 2007. In April 2007, the Menzies group decided

to shift its Philippine investments to Australia and divested its 30% stake in the company to the MacroAsia group of companies.

Currently, MASCORP is capable in providing Ground Handling Services in different parts of the Philippines:

About the General Manager

EMERSON S. BONOAN, JR.

Emer started his career in the aviation industry in 1985 when he joined Philippine Airlines as a baggage representative. He rose through the ranks moving from airport operations to marketing and then to corporate development where he established guidelines for local emergency action procedures. In 1999, Emer was tasked to head the ground handling operations of Philippine Airlines. During his short stint in this department, he helped his clients gain numerous customer service awards. He was elected Chairman of the Airport Operators Council for two consecutive years in 2002 and 2003 before he joined MASCORP in 2004.

With his leadership and guidance, Emer spearheaded the efforts to make MASCORP a dominant player in the ground handling industry. He worked towards having MASCORP recognized as a member of the IATA Ground Handling Council. Despite the withdrawal of the investment of its International partner, Menzies Group in 2007; MASCORP was able to grow steadily. From handling 100 flights weekly, MASCORP now handles 690 flights a week and has expanded its operations to all 3 international airports in Manila as well as in Cebu and Kalibo.

Emer has given invaluable contribution to the academe being one of the top professors of University of the Philippines – Asian Institute of Tourism for 10 years. He was also one of the authors of the implementing guidelines for the Magna Carta for the Disabled representing the airtransport sector.
