Pre-PrimaryYvonne Dalorto. They think they’re playing. We know they’re learning.
This session will look at how fantasy is important for imagination and creativity but it can also be a way to nurture social and emotional development. Using a range of materials including the new Macmillan Education Pre Primary course Big Wheel, we will explore how a child can become immersed in the fantasy learning environment and engage in a social and emotional learning experience, that will help them understand feelings and meanings, and can be transferred to real life.
A teacher is a role model for their students. Not just by sharing knowledge, but also by sharing values, passion and waking students’ innate desire to learn.
Just as a conductor of an orchestra leads and gets the best out of their musicians, a teacher encourages and inspires their students, helping them make the most of their potential.
PrimaryEmma Mohamed. Bringing English to life!
This workshop gives practical ideas for bringing the real world into the English Primary classroom. By focusing on the pupils’ real lives, by using real-life contexts, and by using realistic materials, we can motivate our pupils to communicate in English.
Academies - AdultsClaire Potter. Exploiting videos for authentic English: What exactly are you saying?
Have any of your students ever er...complained to you about like not erm...understanding native speakers or you know, wishing they could er...talk like them? Well, this session looks at how we can use videos to help them to do that. It is suitable for teachers of adult students in academies, universities and er...EOIs.
Secondary & Upper-SecondaryEoin Higgins. Preparing students for language exams.
This talk will take a critical look at what we have been told about how students learn and what science actually says. Through a series of practical activities, I shall explore effective learning strategies and how they can be applied to English exam preparation. I will also look at how preparing for a language exam can help students develop strategies for all their other exams.
Academies - Young LearnersJane Cadwallader. Have you got something to say?
It’s not enough to have good ideas you need to be able to communicate these effectively. This talk will explore some ideas on how to develop mindful listening and to help children make their points efficiently as well as looking at techniques to practise the functional language of communication.
