Scholarships and grants for AustriaThe OeAD offers grants and scholarships to students and researchers from all over the world. Our programmes range from grants aimed at broad target groups to more specific ones aimed at applicants from particular fields of study or regions.

This grant is open to students who are partici-pating in a master programme at a university outside Europe or have successfully comple-

ted at least four semesters of studies within a bachelor or diploma programme.

Franz Werfel

Werfel Fellows can work as visiting researchers at university departments and do research in lib-raries, archives or at research institutions.

Franz Werfel FellowshipFranz Werfel, who was born in Prague in 1890 and died in California in 1945, is one of the most famous representatives of Austrian literature. The Franz Werfel Fellowship is therefore aimed at young university lecturers with a research focus on Austrian literature.

Fellows can apply for the follow-up programme once they have completed twelve months of their fellowship.

Field of study German language and literature, focus on Austrian literature

Duration 4 to 9 months, may be extended to 18 months

Grant amount 1,150 €/month Postdocs: mobility subsidy € 600/month

The Richard Plaschka Fellowship is targeted at researchers of Austrian history. Plaschka Fel-lows can work as visiting researchers at univer-sity departments and do research in libraries,

archives or at research institutions. Fellows can apply for the follow-up programme once they have completed twelve months of their fellow-ship.

Richard Plaschka FellowshipAustrian historian Richard Plaschka (1925–2001) was a university professor for Eastern European history at the University of Vienna (1967–1993), rector of the university in 1981/1982 and head of the Austrian East and Southeast Europe Institute from 1958 to 1988.
