Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Visitors, welcome to Macedonia! We’re so glad to be with you today. Please talk to one of

today’s ushers if you have any questions or need help. We would like to make your worship

with us more accessible and meaningful. The worship service is from the cranberry colored

hymnal. Page numbers refer to the front of the hymnal. Hymns are numbered in the back two-

thirds of the hymnal beginning with all 150 psalms. For your convenience, our ushers can assist

you with Hearing Amplification Headsets. We also have a T-loop in the sanctuary for those

with compatible hearing aid devices.

Youth Activity Bags are also available in the Narthex. Your child will find age appropriate books,

crayons and other assorted items within the bag. After worship, please leave the bags at church so

that others can enjoy and use each week.

Our Nursery is located in the Educational Building and opens around 9:15AM. Staffed by one

adult and one teen, your child will enjoy books, toys, games and playmates. All children are

also welcome to join us in worship. If you need directions to the nursery, please ask one of the

ushers.

Holy Communion—Believing in the real presence of Christ, and by the invitation of the Lord,

all are welcome to the table to celebrate Holy Communion. This sacrament, a tangible sign of

God's grace, love, and forgiveness, in and through bread and wine, was instituted by Jesus on

the night before his death. When it is time for Communion, please come forward at the ushers'

invitation. Those who do not wish to receive the sacrament are welcome to come forward to

receive a blessing. Let those serving the bread know if you, or your children, would like a

blessing in lieu of communion as you come forward. Reception of Communion via one element

(consuming only bread or only wine) is a fully valid reception of the sacrament.

We are so glad to have our visitation pastor, Pr. Suzanne Shoffner, preaching and presiding today while Pr. Richard and Lindsey are away for a wedding of dear friends in NY. The Altar flowers are given to the glory of God and in memory of William F. Barker, husband, father and grandfather. Please remember in your prayers: *Jane Russell, *Estelle Petersen, *Mary Anne Dettman, *Lisa Brandt, Jeanette Humphrey, Dana Fitzgerald, *Catherine Radomski, Marvin Thigpen Jr., *Greg Myers, *Don Honeycutt, Dale Retharford, Kayla Moorfield, Tanya Rudisill McManus, Laura Weant, Frank and Deb Pertschi, Brian Woodson, David Jackson, *Vera Tunstall. and in memory of William F. Barker, husband, father and grandfather.

INTRODUCTION Remember the sabbath day. Call the sabbath a delight. This is the Lord’s day, and the Lord will do for us what the Lord does: feed us, forgive us, help and heal us. Rejoice at all the wonderful things God is doing. VOLUNTARY Prelude, G Minor Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750)

Stand CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS ELW page 94 PROCESSIONAL HYMN 641 All Are Welcome Two Oaks GREETING ELW page 138 HYMN OF PRAISE Glory to God ELW page 139 PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray.

O God, mighty and immortal, you know that as fragile creatures surrounded by great dangers, we cannot by ourselves stand upright. Give us strength of mind and body, so that even when we suffer because of human sin, we may rise victorious through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

ANTHEM A Prayer of St. Francis Setting by Allen Pote

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, thy pardon, Lord. Where there is doubt, let there be faith. Where there’s despair let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, let there be light. Where there is sadness, let there be joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, and it is in pardoning that we are pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

FIRST READING Isaiah 58:9b-14 Pew Bible, page 841, OT

After the reading: Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. PSALM 103:1-8 Choir intones the first half of each verse. Congregation responds with the second half of each verse.

1Bless the Lord, | O my soul, and all that is within me, bless God’s | holy name. 2Bless the Lord, | O my soul, and forget not | all God’s benefits—

Psalm continued on next page.
