Macdonald Resort Plas Talgarth General Resort Information

Reception is open from 8.15am to 10pm. There is NO night porter at this resort. The Leisure facilities are available from 8.15am. The Spa is open from 10am daily (closed Sunday).

Guests should be advised that reception closed at 10pm and to contact the resort direct if they are going to be late for check in so that special arrangements can be made for them to access their apartment.

A welcome meeting is held on a Monday morning at 10am in Y Garth Bar for guests to meet some of the team and to discuss resort activities and to give information on the surrounding area. ‘Show Me Wales’ app or website has hundreds of suggestions on what to do or where to go whilst here. Food and Beverage at the resort is provided by an independent business Y Garth bar & Restaurant. Breakfast is NOT available.

Macdonald Resort Plas Talgarth A Brief History

Macdonald Resort Plas Talgarth is set amongst 64 acres of the Dyfi Valley, located at the southern aspect of the Snowdonia National park, in the village of

Pennal.

Talgarth Farmhouse was a property of the Edwards family from 1647 (currently known as Y Garth Bar). On 5th May 1772, Humphrey Edwards Esq, together

with his wife Mary, laid the first stone of the 18th century Georgian Mansion House; overlooking the meandering River Dyfi. Ownership of the properties

remained in the Edwards family until sold to the Sotherby family in 1850; before becoming the home of Charles Thurston JP, Lord of the Manor of Pennal.

In the early 1960’s, Plas Talgarth was owned by Gaily Caravans and home to 95 caravans. Bought by a subsidiary of British Lions Film Company, in the early

1970s, work began building bungalows and villas in order to replace the caravans, before selling to Multi Ownership Ltd; who in 1978 further developed the

location into timeshare accommodation. In 1982, Barratt Ltd, under the direction of Multi Ownership Ltd, built the Heron apartments and in 1983, Barratt

International Resorts Ltd (B.I.RL.) purchased the resort and continued to build the Lapwing and Patio apartments and Leisure Centre.

Macdonald Hotels acquired a 50% share in B.I.R.L in 1997 and in 2001, acquired the remaining 50%, to become Macdonald Hotels and Resorts. Today, the

Grade II listed Mansion House is the central point for the Resorts 77 apartments; which vary in both size and layout.

The Health & Leisure Club at the resort is open daily for a workout in the gym, swim, relax in the Jacuzzi, steam room or sauna. The Spa offer an extensive range of treatments to relax and revive whether you are male or female. They offer British skincare brand ‘Elemis’ facial and body treatments, Jessica Nails, GELeration manicures, Bare Ecsentual mineral make-up, universal contour wraps, hot stone massage and Indian head massage. After which you can take time out in the relaxation room.

Mansion House

The Mansion House is a Grade II listed building situated central to the resort by the bar and restaurant and opposite the outdoor pool. Parking is in the Main

Car Park behind the Mansion House. The apartments do not have either a balcony or patio. Top floor apartments have good views of the valley and resort.

Mansion House Apartments are on three floors. There is no lift. Mansion Apartments consist of 1 bedroom and studios. The 1 bedroom (sleep 4) consists of either a master or small twin and a double sofa bed in the

lounge. The beds are not interchangeable from master to twin. The studios (sleep 2) have a double sofa bed in the lounge. Mansion House 10 is an

exception; it has a Master with en suite, family bathroom and a double sofa bed in the lounge.

Farmhouse

The Farmhouse is situated near to reception overlooking the pitch and putt golf course and the valley beyond. The Farmhouse has designated parking at the

side of the building.

The Farmhouse consists of two apartments (sleep 4) with a twin bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge. The upper apartment has a balcony and the

downstairs apartment has a small patio area. Both apartments have access to an enclosed garden.

Farmhouse 1 was refurbished in Nov 2016. The apartment now has a walk in shower and new kitchen.

Macdonald Resort Plas Talgarth Bungalow

The ‘top’ bungalows 14-20 are located near to reception overlooking the pitch and putt golf course and newly planted woodland to the rear. Designated parking is located near to each lodge. The ‘bottom’ bungalows 3-10 are located off the main drive to the resort. All Bungalows have views across the valley and mountains beyond. The Bungalows (sleep 6) consists of a master, twin and bunk room. Bungalow 9 is the exception and has a master, twin and sofa bed in the lounge. All bungalows have a family bathroom and a shower room and a small patio area.

Lapwing

The Lapwings are located near to the Tennis Courts and Outdoor Pool. Designated parking is located nearby. The Upper Level Lapwings, even numbered (sleep 8) consist of a master, 2 x twins and double sofa bed in the lounge. The Lower Level Lapwings, odd numbered (sleep 6) consist of a master, twin and double sofa bed in the lounge. All Lapwings have a small balcony. Recently refurbished lapwings are L3, L4, L10 and L12

Accessibility: Lapwings 1,3,5,7,9,11 This would give ground floor access to bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/diner/lounge

Villa

The ‘top’ Villas 21-28 are located in the centre of the Resort near to the main car park. The ‘bottom’ Villas 36-42 are located near to the outdoor pool. Designated parking is located near to each lodge. The Villas (sleep 6) consist of a master, twin and bunk room. The Villas are over four levels. All Villas have a balcony and a patio area. Villas 21-26 were refurbished in 2012.

Patios

The ‘top’ Patios 1-8 are located near to the Village Hall and overlook the pitch and putt golf course and surrounding farmland. The ‘bottom’ Patios 9-12 are located near to the outdoor pool. Designated parking is located near to each lodge. The Patios (sleep 8) consist of a master, twin with adjoining small bunk room and a double sofa bed in the lounge. Be advised bunk room access only via twin

room.

All Patios have a balcony and enclosed patio area. Patios have been refurbished (except Patios 5 & 8 - these still have a pull down bed in the lounge).

Heron

The Herons are located off the main drive to the resort with view across the valley. Designated parking is located nearby. The Herons (sleep 6) consists of a master, twin and sofa bed in the lounge. All Herons have a small balcony. Heron 9 has an enclosed balcony.

Accessibility: Herons are not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone that cannot manage a few steps. If disability allows individual to manage 7 steps to

the lower level Herons (1,3,5,7,9 & 11) then the apartment would be suitable for guest requiring bedroom, bathroom, lounge & kitchen/diner on one level.
