It has been a pleasure working with you, the Club members, for the past 3 years. The incoming Officers will, also, enjoy guiding the group. Please offer suggestions to them on any subject that would be of interest to all members. There is always a need for activities and improvements to MACC.

Drive your Corvette. Enjoy it. It will not melt, rot or decrease in value if you have

fun with it.

Greetings to all of our MACC family members.

First of all, let me thank all the board members for asking me to consider the Presidents position with the club. I am truly honored and humbled to be asked to be the leader of this club.

I also want to thank each of you members for your votes and your show of support for me as incoming President. I will do my best not to disappoint you.

To my friends, the outgoing President and First Lady, Wayne and Donna, I thank you for your service as the leaders of this club and the way you have gone about your business with dignity and class. You have truly set the standard the past three years for the way to lead this club. For that, we all thank you. I will do my best to build on what you have done and continue to move this club forward.

To my wife Tricia, who has been "First Lady" in my life for 10 years, thank you for your love and support in this decision.

I ask all of you to join us in building on the reputation that MACC enjoys and become a partner by participating in as many club activities as you can. We need you and want you to get involved and make a difference.

Thank you again to everyone and I look forward to seeing you all at the "MACC FAMILY" picnic for our September club meeting.

Message  from  the  Vice  President  David Overton

Message from the Vice President: This summer has been a fun filled one so far, with cruise-ins, car shows, day trips, overnight trips, and topless nights. There is still a lot of summer left with a full slate of events to do. I will still encourage you if there is an event or trip that you would like to see the club be involved in please let Tricia Lawrence or one of the officers of the club know. The Mid Alabama Corvette Club is a family oriented club and we want all of our members to take part. The newly elected officers and appointed positions take over in September some will be new people some will be returning. I thank the people that are not returning for their services to the club last year. Wayne and Donna Allen are stepping down from President and First Lady after three years in office. They have done a great job leading MACC forward. Wayne will remain on the Board of Directors. I personally want to thank them for making my job easier and all the hard work they have done. THANK YOU! As always drive your corvette and have fun.

MACC turns out in force to go topless in Trussville Beautiful yet warm night !! Rumors have it that Tricia Lawrence was fanning, until Dwain took the fan away. Sonic had a major rush on anything cold !!! Thanks to all

who made the night such a beautiful sight to see !!!

Nice turn out in Pell City good night to sit and enjoy each other’s company. Lots of folks in the area stopped by to admire and as always MACC Shines Out !!!

 

Museum Trip / Somerset KY Cruse In

The MACC club took a road trip to the Corvette Museum and Plant for a tour in July. 16 cars made the trip up to Bowling Green Ky. on a Friday to get a tour of production plant and see the 2016 Corvettes being assembled. Very interesting to observe each station of the production of the body parts, interior elements being added then finally seeing the frame / engine / drive train married up to body. Then see the Vette come to life with a push of a button VRRRROOMMMM. Upon firing immediately they are run across massive speed bumps, then to a monsoon water test !! Yes these cars can take on bumps and rain and not come apart or melt. Sorry no pics from inside plant as they have a special rule about that NONE.

Somerset Ky. Cruise In

Several members enjoyed the trip over to Somerset Ky. For the Somernights Cruise. It was enormous we personally heard the announcement of OVER 350 Corvette

displayed and with other makes and models there was an estimated 800 total cars or more. As you can see the MACC group came prepared with tents to crowd under

and try to make it thru the hot, hazy, humid summer day.

Left on Aug 8,scattered returns from 8/21 til today. Over 7000 miles( the longest Butt yet). Visited 15 states, 2 Canadian

Provinces, stopped at 5 state capitals, drove on the beach in Oregon, did at least 20000 curves to put the Dragon to shame, drove on the highest

continuous road in the US (Beartooth Pass ), saw glaciers on Beartooth,Glacier Park,MT. Rainier,and, forced all drivers to be ready to

leave at 7AM each day.

Museum News Fred Atkins

Kai Spande The Corvette Assembly Plant Manager is a Corvette Guy His car after being hired at GM was a 1978 Corvette. For his next Corvette he did a frame-off restoration on

a 1965 big block convertible, then he got a 1969 427 and then 1999. He has been with GM for 24 years and was Director of European Powertrain Test

Facilities, Engineering Operations and Quality before being assigned to Bowling Green Ky. It was unbelievable for me to have a chance to come to work in this environment on the Corvette, a car I love so much. It's the chance of a lifetime and thankfully my family

agreed."

The 1968 LT-2 (a prototype ’70 engine) has the fastest recorded 0-60 time in all

of Corvette history at 2.8 seconds, as tested by Motor Trend. The 1968 Corvette reached 1/4 mile in 10.86 seconds at 124.64 miles per hour. Other

close calls came from the 2009 Corvette ZR1. Road and Track tested it at 3.3 seconds from 0-60, and 11.4 seconds at 125.5 miles per hour to hit 1/4 mile.

Motor Trend reached similar results for the same model, with 3.3 seconds to 0-60, and 11.2 seconds to the 1/4 mile at 130.5 miles per hour.

two options

Today it seems like to Corvette comes with an endless array of options, but in 1953, the original Corvette was far less complicated. It had a base price of $3,498, and had just two options for car buyers to add on if they’d like: a

heater, which cost $91, and an AM radio, which was $145.

In 1955, Chevrolet made the V8 engine available for the very first time. In that

Facts About the Chevrolet Corvette #15: The first Corvette emblem featured an American flag — making it illegal

Chevrolet had planned to use an American flag in its iconic crossed flag

emblem for the Corvette, but before the 1953 release, discovered that it was illegal to use it. According to National Flag Code, it is illegal to use the flag for

advertising purposes, and that includes vehicle emblems. Chevrolet quickly changed gears and decided to use the fleur de lis, a French symbol for peace

and purity.

SAVE THE WAVE

Ever since Corvette No. 00001 first met Corvette No. 00002 on the road, their drivers saluted each other with waves. Today, unfortunately, this grand and glorious tradition is wavering.

There's one item of standard equipment that comes as a pleasant surprise to every new Corvette owner. It's an instant wave of recognition he or she receives when he meets one of their likes on the road. The first time it happens, they will be taken by surprise. He immediately thinks:

1. He has been mistaken for Sterling Moss. 2. His lights are on. 3. He has just been given the bird. Soon, however, the new Vette owner anticipates, indeed even relishes, encountering other Vettes as he drives. During this period, he experiments with his waves, running the gamut from the gaping "yoo hoo" to the ultra cool "two finger flip." He perfects his timing, making sure he affects neither a too-early wave, nor the jaded "oh brother" too-late variety. Determined not to be one upped, he even develops a defense mechanism for non-wavers, usually settling on the "Wave"? My hand was just on the way to scratch my head" approach. (This is especially useful when you're not driving your Vette, but you forget, and like a dummy, you wave anyway.)

Indeed, one of the most perplexing problems facing a would-be waver is what to do when driving next to a fellow Vette owner. Passing him going in opposite directions is one thing. Greetings are exchanged, and that's that. But what happens when you pull up next to a guy at a light, wave, nod, smile and then pull up to him at the next light, a block later? Wave again? Nod bashfully? Grin self-consciously? Ignore him? Or take the chicken's way out and turn down the next side street? If you're expecting an answer, you won't find it here. Sad to say, some questions don't have any.

Girl-type Corvette drivers also have a unique problem: to wave or not to wave. This miss or misses who borrows her man's Corvette for the first time is immediately faced with this quandary. Should she wave first and look overly friendly, or ignore the wave and look like a snob? Most ladies who drive their own Vettes prefer to suffer the latter rather than take a chance of being misread. For this reason, all girls are excused for occasionally failing to return a well-meaning wave. So are new owners who are still learning the ropes.

There is no excuse, however, for a guy who refuses to return the wave, not out of ignorance, but of arrogance or apathy. While this type of behavior is the exception to the rule, it seems a few owners of newer models refuse to recognize anything older than theirs, while some others simply won't wave, period. Boo on them. These ding-a-lings don't seem to realize that they are helping to squash a tradition that had its beginnings back when most of us were still driving tootsie toys.
