DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MACBETH AND MACDUFF

As a soldier

• As a soldier, Macbeth is coward, but Macduff is brave.

• Quotation 1: “Accursed to be that tongue that tells me so/ for it hath cowed my better part of man !” (Shakespeare 5,6,56-57 )

• Quotation 2:” That way the noise is. Tyrant, show thy face!/ if thou be’est slain and with no stroke of mine/ my wife and children’s ghosts will haunt me still.” (Shakespeare 5,3,18-20 )

AS A HUSBAND

• Macduff was a good husband, but Macbeth was not.

• Quotation 3:” She could have died hereafter/ there would have been a time for such a word.” (Shakespeare 5,5,19-20)

• Quotation 4:” But I must also feel it as a man/ I cannot but remember such things were/ that were most precious to me. Did heaven look on/ and would not take their part?” (Shakespeare 4,3,258-261)

As a leader

• Macbeth abuses his power, on the other hand, Macduff leads army to killed tyrant.

• Quotation 5:” Hang those talks of fear. Give me mine armour.” (Shakespeare 5,3,41)

• Quotation 6:”Let our just censures/ attend the true event, and put we on/ industrious soldiership.” (Shakespeare 5,4,19-21)

As A SUBJECT

• Macbeth killed the king to usurped, however, Macduff helped Malcolm got throne.

• Quotation 7:” I am settled, and bend up/ each corporal agent to this terrible feat/away, and mock the time with fairest show/ false must hide what the false heart doth know.” (Shakespeare 1,7,90-94)

• Quotation 8:” Hail, king! For so thou art. Behold where stands/ th’usurper’s cursed head: the time is free/I see thee compassed with thy kingdom’s pearl/ that speak my salutation in their minds/ whose voice I desire aloud with mine/hail, king of Scotland!” (Shakespeare 5,7,100-105)

Goal

• Macbeth wants to be the king, but Macduff wants to protect their country and kills the tyrant.

• Quotation 9:” Two truths are told/ as happy prologues to the swelling act/ of the imperial theme. “ (Shakespeare 1,3,136-138)

• Quotation 10:” let us rather/ hold fast the mortal sword, and like good men/ bestride our down-fall’n birthdom.” (Shakespeare 4,3,3-5)
