Xerox Products’ Compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7

Xerox offers a wide variety of print drivers for the newest operating system

from Apple – Mac OS X 10.7. The following table lists various Xerox

products and information regarding Mac OS X 10.7 driver compatibility and

availability. The table refers to a compatibility level for each product; a

description of the compatibility levels is provided at the end of this document.

This table will be updated periodically as Xerox releases new Mac OS X 10.7

print drivers.

Printing in Mac OS X 10.7

The extension of 64-bit support throughout the operating system was a main feature of Mac OS X 10.6 and

continues with Mac OS X 10.7. For products listed above with a compatibility level of “2”, there are some

important conditions to be aware of when printing in Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7. When printing from 32-bit

applications, the existing print drivers for Mac OS X 10.5 will function as expected when printing in Mac OS

X 10.6 or 10.7. When printing from 64-bit applications, some of the features in the print driver may appear

with a line drawn across the feature name. When this occurs, those features cannot be selected for use in the

print job. Applications that are included with the operating system, such as the Finder, the Dock, Safari,

TextEdit, Preview, iChat, Address Book, Dashboard, Mail, Calculator, Help Viewer, Installer, Terminal,

Stickies, Font Book, as well as Photo Booth, are current examples of 64-bit applications. Microsoft

Office:mac2008 and Adobe Creative Suite, CS4, are examples of 32-bit applications.

To continue printing with Mac OS X 10.5 drivers from 64-bit applications, you can either choose to use an

alternate application that runs in 32-bit mode or you can force the 64-bit application to run in 32-bit mode. To

do this, select the application, select ‘Get Info’ from the file menu, click the ‘Open in 32-bit mode’ checkbox,

and then select “Done”. This is a permanent change until you uncheck the setting.

Scan Driver Compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7

Some scan functionality is diminished in Mac OS X 10.7. In particular, scanning via the SMB protocol is no

longer supported due to architectural changes in Mac OS X 10.7. Please continue to visit Xerox.com/drivers

periodically for updates regarding enhancements to scan drivers that address this change.

Updated Print Drivers for Mac OS X 10.7

Over time, Xerox will be issuing updated drivers that will be fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.7. These

drivers will function in full-feature mode, even when printing from 64-bit applications. Check back

periodically as future revisions of this document will contain updated release schedules.
