Ma’aden and the Royal Commis-sion for Jubail & Yanbu (RCJY) signed in November a Memoran-dum of Understanding (MoU) to qualify Northern Border youths to raise their technical competency and to improve their skills so they can participate in construction and operational activities at the King Abdullah Project for the Develop-ment of Wa’ad Al Shammal. The signing ceremony was attended by His Highness Prince Saud bin

Abdullah bin Thunayan Al Saud, Chairman of the Royal Commis-sion and Engr. Khalid Al Mudaifer, Ma’aden President and CEO.Under the MoU, Ma’aden will recruit up to 300 students per year from the Northern Border Region. Ad-missions tests will be administered according to Royal Commission standards. Successful candidates will be able to achieve qualifica-tion after successfully completing a one-year training programme,

which is designed and delivered by the Royal Commission in its insti-tutes at Jubail and Yanbu. This programme will help qualify Northern Border youths in areas of science and technology, prepar-ing them for managerial and op-erational jobs in the industrial and mining facilities in the King Abdul-lah Project for the Development of Wa’ad Al Shammal City, amongst which is one of the largest phos-phate projects in the world.

The Ma’aden Board has appointed H.E. Sulaiman Bin Abdulrahman Al Gwaiz, Governor of the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI), as a new Board Member (non-executive) starting 01 Janu-ary 2014. This appointment will be presented for endorsement at the upcoming General Shareholders meeting.H.E. Sulaiman Bin Abdulrahman Al Gwaiz holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Portland (USA). He held senior management positions at various institutions, including

Saudi American Bank and Riyadh Bank.Earlier, Ma’aden announced the resignation of H.E. Soliman S. Al Humayyad (Non-executive) who was representing the GOSI on the Ma’aden Board of Directors, with effective date starting 31 Decem-ber 2013.The Ma’aden Board has expressed its thanks and gratitude to H.E. سامابكو تصدر أول شحنة من ثنائي كلوريد األثيلين والصودا الكاويةMa’aden and Sahara announced re-cently that their affiliate SAMAPCO has completed exportation of its first sea shipment of ethylene di-chloride and caustic soda.The shipment consisted of 10,000 metric tons of ethylene dichloride and 5,000 metric tons of caustic soda and left King Fahad Industrial Port at Jubail. SAMAPCO is a joint venture project between Ma’aden (50%) and Sahara (50%). The SA-MAPCO plant will annually produce 300 thousand metric tons of eth-ylene dichloride and 250 thousand

metric tons of caustic soda.SABIC will be the prime marketer for ethylene dichloride and caustic soda. However, future caustic soda production from this joint venture shall be used in Ma’aden alumina refinery at Ras Al Khair, which will commence production in 2014.Caustic soda is the raw material used for refining bauxite and it is the key component to produce alumina. Ethylene dichloride is a co-product of caustic soda and is used in vinyl chloride, a key component within plastic industries. SAMAPCO CEO

Engr. Saeed Ba Yunis said that trial operations have been executed suc-cessfully by SAMAPCO and added that an increase in production will be executed gradually, as per the re-quired safety standard. As well, he asserted that the prod-ucts are of the highest quality and produced in compliance with global standards and requirements. Ba Yu-nis said that the exportation of this first shipment demonstrates that SAMAPCO is delivering on its strat-egy, while remaining focused on fu-ture performance.

Ma’aden Phosphate Company (MPC) celebrated recently the first production of coloured diammo-nium phosphate or DAP. The pro-duction of the brown-coloured DAP is in line with the company’s strate-gic plan to expand its market share and become a leader in the fertiliser business. During the event, Engr. Khalil Al

Watban, MPC President along with Pratim Bose, VP Operations and Joshua Wheeler, Sr. Production Di-rector, conducted a tour of the DAP plant and storage area as well as met with teams involved with the project. Engr. Al Watban congratu-lated the staff and expressed the management’s appreciation for their valuable contributions to the

company’s growth. The technology used in the colour-ing process was provided by Ar-rMaz, one of the world’s leading pro-ducers of performance products for mining, fertilizer, and asphalt. The markets with the highest demand for brown DAP include South Amer-ican countries and Australia, among others.

Khalil Al Watban, MPC President and Kha-lid Al Rowais, VP Finance and IT welcomed the delegation which included board members of NCB headed by their chairman Mansour Al Maiman. The visit was highlight-ed by a tour of MPC facilities fol-lowed by a visit to the Ras Al Khair Industrial Port. The delegates con-cluded the visit with a tour of the processing plants and other facili-ties of Ma’aden Aluminium.

Ma’aden participated in the 2013 Arab International Aluminum Conference (Arabal) held recent-ly in Abu Dhabi where it present-ed its current investments and fu-ture plans, and demonstrated its capacity as an important alumi-num producer in the Middle East. Ma’aden’s acting Vice President of Aluminium Engr. Khalid Al-luhaidan indicated that the com-pany will commence production from its bauxite mine in 2014 with a total capacity of 4 mta and pro-duction at its alumina refinery at Ras Al Khair is on schedule to produce alumina in 4Q 2014.Ma’aden, in conjunction with joint

venture partner, Alcoa, is building the most efficiently integrated mine to metal aluminium complex in the world. The facility will in-clude the Gulf region’s first baux-ite mine and alumina refinery, a smelter and one of the world’s most technically advanced roll-ing mills. The project will utilize Saudi Arabian bauxite to produce alumina, primary aluminium, can sheet, auto sheet, foil stock and building and construction sheet, as well as creating the platform for substantial downstream man-ufacturing opportunities. Mohammed Al-Naki, founder and chairman of Arabal, said that the

aluminum sector in the region has grown rapidly. Ma’aden recently joined key play-ers from across the process industry as one of the Diamond sponsors of the 2nd Middle East Process Engi-neering Conference and Exhibition (MEPEC) organised under the pa-tronage of His Royal highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain. The event was held at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Conven-tion Centre from 29th September – 2nd October 2013 and attracted more than 5,000 participants that include delegates, exhibitors, speak-ers and students.

With its theme of “Overcoming Fu-ture Challenges through Engineer-ing Excellence”, MEPEC 2013 pro-vided the platform where industry leaders discussed and exchanged practical experience in all aspects of process engineering issues re-lated to the process industry includ-ing but not limited to upstream and downstream activities in the Oil and Gas and Petrochemical industries.Engr. Khalid Al Luhaidan, Acting VP for Aluminium SBU participated in a special session focused on ‘Local-ization across the Value Chain’. Engr. Al Luhaidan, along with a high-level

A legal awareness workshop fo-cusing on labour, commercial and environmental issues was recently held in Riyadh HQ organised by Ma’aden’s Legal Department. The workshop was kicked-off by Engr. Nabil Al Fraih, VP Precious Metals SBU and VP (A) Human Resources and Sustainability, who welcomed the participants and encouraged them to engage in active discus-sion with the legal expert to gain maximum benefit from the ses-sions.The workshop was designed and facilitated by Dr. Nasser Al Dosa-ri, Legal Advisor, who presented a wide-range of topics and dis-cussed important issues related to labour litigation according to the

new Saudi labour law, commercial and environmental litigation, and discussion of the laws governing the company’s scope of works and environmental issues pertain-ing to its activities. The workshop also discussed and analyzed the regulations of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha), its requirements and the legal as-pects of its work. Each topic was highlighted by actual examples of the problems and issues in or-der to prevent and minimize such problems in the future in line with the company’s continuous efforts to benefit from these experiences. The workshop, attended by em-ployees from across Ma’aden and its affiliates, was designed to meet

the needs of directors, legal con-sultants, internal audit officials, mine project managers, supervi-sors and foremen as well as other departments including Contracts and Procurement, Finance, Envi-ronment, Government Affairs and Marketing. Engr. Khalid Al Mudaifer, Ma’aden President and CEO, thanked the participants and congratulated them for acquiring additional knowledge on various legal issues. As well, the President lauded the Legal team for organising the workshop to promote legal aware-ness among employees. Engr. Al Mudaifer also presented the cer-tificates of participation to the at-tendees.

IT Awareness Campaign conducted in Riyadh

The Corporate IT Department has conducted an Information Secu-rity Awareness campaign through a series of awareness sessions held across the company. The sessions were aimed at increas-ing awareness of the importance of information security and responsi-ble use of the internet.

The campaign, which recognises the vital role that employees play in keeping the organisation’s informa-tion safe, is also part of the man-agement’s effort to comply with regulatory requirements. A total of 60 workshops were or-ganised across Ma’aden with four sessions delivered to Executives,

eight sessions for Directors and Managers, forty sessions for gen-eral users and eight sessions for IT professionals. The awareness campaign shall be a continuous initiative that will be communicated via e-mails as well as periodical newsletters.

The Ma’aden Infrastructure Proj-ect team recently held the hando-ver ceremony for the first batch of apartments which form part of Ma’aden’s Jalmudah housing proj-ect in Jubail Industrial City. Ma’aden President and CEO Engr. Khalid Al Mudaifer and the Proj-ect Team attended the ceremony and conducted a tour of the apart-ments. The Jalmudah project is 90% com-plete and is comprised of a total of 256 apartments divided into 16

buildings with 16 apartments in each. The first batch comprising of 48 apartments has already been turned-over to Ma’aden Aluminium Company. The second batch is also ready and will be handed over immediately af-ter availability of power.

progress of the project which currently stands at an early stage. The President congratulated the team on their progress so far. The Mutrafiah housing project is part of Ma’aden’s Home Ownership Programme which may be availed by Saudi employees. The project is intended to house Ma’aden employees with family status and is comprised of four-types of two-story villas with secondary infrastructure developed by Royal Commission.

Ma’aden presented a progress re-port of its housing project located at Al Mutrafiah district in Jubail Industrial City during a workshop also attended by representatives from Sabic, Aramco and the office of Engr. Fahad Ali Reda Engineer-

ing Consultancy, the design plan-ner for the Al Mutrafiah Project. The workshop was aimed at pro-moting the exchange of valuable information and experiences as well as studying potential chal-lenges in creative designs. Cur-

rently, Ma’aden is building 800 vil-las within the Al Mutrafiah Housing Project which is part of its House Ownership Program (HOP). In ad-dition, 256 family apartments are under construction at Jalmudah District in Jubail industrial City.

Furthering its commitment to ac-tively engaging in corporate social responsibility programmes in the Northern Border region, MPC took part in the renovation of Al Jala-mid Intermediate and Elementary Schools during the recent summer vacation. Representatives from MPC led by Mohammad M. Al Ruwaili, So-cial Relations Representative at Al

Jalamid jointly coordinated with the school management to re-paint and design the classroom walls. In addition, MPC also distributed school supplies to students to fur-ther encourage them in their stud-ies. School officials commended MPC for its efforts to help develop the communities around it and thanked the company for their sup-

port in the school’s preparation for the new school year. In line with its CSR initiatives, MPC also sponsored the 10th batch of Holy Quran Readers in Jubail. The ceremony was held under the pa-tronage of Jubail Governor Engr. Bader Al Otaishan. A total of 53 readers were honoured in the cer-emony.

In line with Ma’aden’s CSR initiatives in areas surrounding the sites and facilities where it operates, Ma’aden Industrial Minerals Company (MIMC) recently sponsored a mass wedding party at Al Ghazal Mine – Zuraighit Village by arranging four wedding halls as venues to celebrate the festive occasion. During the event, Engr. AbdulRahman Yasin, Mine Manager and Engr. Waddah Al Jab-han, Industrial Relations Superinten-dent congratulated the newly-weds and wished them well on their mar-riages.

Ma’aden Gold conducts evacuation drillMa’aden Gold recently conducted a successful evacuation drill partici-pated by employees and visitors at the company’s head office in Jed-dah. The drill was organized by the Industrial Security, Safety and Envi-ronment Dept to train Fire Wardens on the evacuation mechanism and to educate employees and visitors about emergency evacuation pro-cedure. The exercise covered both

the temporary evacuation held at the designated assembly point in the 19th floor of the building as well the permanent evacuation in the assembly point located outside the headquarters. The drill was conducted success-fully within the target time and the fire wardens have executed their assigned responsibilities within the drill period as planned.

Sustainability Training for ETGAN Initiative Leaders On 1st October and 12 November in Riyadh, the ETGAN Initiative Lead-ers had their first session with the Sustainability Development Team. Abdurahman Alsum, Senior Special-ist Sustainability, along with Daniel Neale and Dan Sonnenberg (who are working with Ma’aden through Synergy Global – a consultancy specializing in sustainability and

community issues in the mining industry) presented to the forum and discussed ‘Sustainability – The Ma’aden Way’. This first session was used to show how Sustainability is an intrinsic part of the Ma’aden Strategy and embod-ied within the core values of Care and Integrity. The team then went on to show what Ma’aden needs to do to become ‘World Class’ and laid out the sustainability development plan, detailing what is happening now within the company and affili-ates.

Localisation Engr. Khalid Al Luhaidan, VP Alu-minium, delivered a well-received speech at the Middle East Pro-cess Engineering Conference held in Bahrain on 20 September 2013 where he laid out Ma’aden’s com-mitment to localization. Localisation involves employing Saudi workers across the country and using Saudi businesses in the Ma’aden supply chain as much as possible. Engr. Al Luhaidan informed the au-dience of the good work Ma’aden has done so far to address localiza-tion issues, with projects such as the Saudi Mining Polytechnic in Arar and our current Saudization rate of 66% of staff.

He also spoke about future projects, including a local research and devel-opment site and a training facility in the new minerals industrial city of Wa’ad Al Shammal. These efforts are something Ma’aden employees can be proud of. In the future we will work harder to extend the value chain of our businesses to the com-munities most affected by our sites. In this way, local communities will

see greater benefits of Ma’aden’s sites and ensure that we are always viewed as a welcomed neighbor.MPC – AL JALAMID Medical Initia-tive Ma’aden (Ma’aden Phosphate Company) recently led an important medical baseline study in the Jala-mid community, near our mine. The initiative involved a free medical checkup for 600 people and a re-view of the facilities at the Jalamid Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC). The information collected will be as-sessed and forwarded to Ma’aden’s partners in the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The newly acquired data will show what chronic illnesses and diseases are afflicting the community and will also identify gaps in the medi-cal staff, equipment and supplies needed to treat the community. Following the MOH’s assessment of this data, Ma’aden will engage

again with the MOH to identify ways in which Ma’aden can support the MOH in addressing community health needs. Ma’aden has generated some good-will with the community by dem-onstrating our commitment to im-proving the healthcare in the local community. We’ve also developed good working relationships with the MOH and the Governor’s offices.

A group of 45 trainees recently at-tended an Alumina Refinery course in Jubail Industrial College (JIC) in preparation to joining Ma’aden Aluminium’s operations team. The trainees include qualified high-school students who earlier com-

pleted an English course as part of the company’s training programme. The 10-week course is facilitated by Ma’aden in partnership with JIC and the Southwest Institute of Technol-ogy who contributed in designing the programme.

Ma’aden has been recognised as one of the top perform-ers in Investor Relations (IR) among Saudi companies. The company was nominated in the category “Leading Cor-porates for Investor Relations – Saudi Arabia” which form part of the IR Survey conduct-ed annually by the Middle East – IR Society in partnership with Thomson Reuters Extel. The nomination recognises Ma’aden’s efforts and work in maintaining interactive dialog with the capital market partic-ipants to whom the company is committed. The study is conducted in all GCC countries among public companies. Participants in-clude investment banks, bro-kers and fund managers who are asked to rank top 4 quot-ed companies in each country in the region including Saudi Arabia.
