STEWARDSHIP: SHARING TIME, TALENT AND
TREASURE
“The community of believers was of one heart and mind and no
one claimed that any of his possessions was his own.” - Acts 4:32
All that we are and all that we have is a gift from God! Think of
your family, your friends, your talents and abilities – these are
all gifts from God. We aren’t really owners of anything;
we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has blessed us with.
STEWARDSHIP AND THE SUNDAY READINGS How do I know if the Time, Talent and Treasure I offer God in
grateful return is “enough?” What is the measure? St. Paul tells us
in the Second Reading today — the “measure” is the love that we
put into each of these aspects of our lives. “If I have all faith so as
to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give
away everything I own and hand my body over so that I may
boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.” God is not after a par-
ticular number. What He wants us to give over to Him is our very
selves. Real love is not a sentiment. Real love is manifested in
living a virtuous life. We read later in St. Paul’s letter that real
love takes strength: it is patient, kind, humble, other-centered,
truth-seeking and long-suffering. Love is the heroic giving of one-
self even when it is uncomfortable; especially then. Love looks
like Jesus. It lives like Jesus. Sometimes, living like Jesus is diffi-
cult. We see this in the Gospel Reading today where we find Jesus
in action, preaching in the synagogue in His hometown. He
speaks truth to the people He loves, the ones He grew up with and
shared His early days with. How do they respond? They are filled
with fury and run Him out of town, intent on throwing Him from
a cliff! Yet Jesus is undeterred. He passes right through them and
presses forward with the mission His Father has entrusted to Him.
We are called to live with this same strength and determination,
fueled by the power of love and by gratitude for all God has given
us.
THIRD ORDER OF MARY-MARISTS Third Order of Mary meets on the 3rd Sunday of every month
from October through May. Marists are people called to do the
work of Mary in Her name and with Her spirit. We are a family
of many branches; priests, brothers, sisters, and lay people. Since
Vatican II there has been a rediscovery of the role of the laity as
evangelizers. The elements of the Marist vocation are; a convic-
tion of a sense of belonging to Mary, a sense of the needs of the
Church, a sense of the needs of people. If you feel you feel that
our Mother Mary is calling you, and you might be interested in
becoming a member in the Third Order of Mary (a Marist Lay
Order) please contact Ed Leblanc at 781-899-6251.

FLU VIRUS SAFE PRACTICES While the flu epidemic is just beginning we advise our parishion-
ers to follow some safe practices for the health and wellness of all
the faithful. ~ When ill, prudence dictates. Staying home could prevent further
harm to yourself and the spread of flu to others.
~ Use verbal greetings/gestures at the “Sign of Peace” during Mass
such as a simple bow, nod, wave etc.
~ Receive the Body of Christ in hand rather than on the tongue.
~ When coughing or sneezing please follow the recommendations
of the CDC by covering your nose/mouth into the fold of your
arm. And please do not leave tissues in the pews, take them with
you or dispose of them appropriately.
~ The Friars are always happy to greet each one of you after Mass,
however, since cold and flu viruses are largely transmitted by hand
to hand contact, we kindly ask that you refrain from shaking
hands. Let’s do our part to keep our Friars and our fellow parish-
ioners healthy this winter.
~ Lastly, for those home with colds,
flu or who are unable to travel,
CatholicTV carries the Mass live
every day on TV or livestreaming on

FAITH FORMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY THANK YOU SOCIETY OF ST. CLARE MEMBERS On behalf of the First Communion Children and Families, Cate-
chists and RE staff we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the wom-
en of the Society of Saint Clare, our Parish Women’s group for
the wonderful luncheon they hosted last weekend for our First
Reconciliation Day. This event, which the Clare's have hosted for
many years, has made the children’s first penance a memorable
occasion, bringing them together with their families to celebrate
the amazing gift that God has given us in this special sacrament.
The wonderful food, home baked sweets and most of all, the gra-
cious hospitality of our hostesses made the day of all who attend-
ed! Thank you to all who baked, prepared side-dishes, helped
decorate, set-up or clean-up and most importantly for making our
children and their families feel special and welcomed!

HIGH SCHOOL SERVICE PROJECTS Reminder to all 9th and 10th grade students, there are many oppor-
tunities to take part in service projects here at Sacred Heart. Not
only does this satisfy our request for service as part of Confirma-
tion prep, but serving your church and others is also serving God
and will help you to become more involved in the life of the
Church. Among the projects we offer here at Sacred Heart are;
serving meals at the Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen, serving as peer
leaders for the EDGE classes or EDGE retreat or as peer leader
for freshmen retreats and Youth Group events. We also invite
high school students to be part of parish ministry as Lectors, ush-
ers (offertory collection) and if you are musically inclined you
might consider auditioning for our LIFETEEN Band. The oppor-
tunities are endless and you will be blessed and fulfilled by be-
coming more active in the faith that you will carry on as you pre-
pare to receive the sacrament of confirmation.
MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS FOR LIFETEEN
MASSES If you are a young adult, high school or college aged, or a recent
graduate who would like to get more involved in the life of the
church but have limited time to offer, please consider helping just
one hour (or less) on Sundays at the 6:00PM LIFETEEN Mass.
We are in need of Lectors (readers), ministers to distribute the
Eucharist at Mass and offertory collection helpers. We’ll provide
a short training and commission the ministers of the Word and
ministers of Communion so that they can help us on a rotating
schedule. Even if you are only able to serve Mass once a month it
will be of great help to us and your fellow parishioners. And with
the help of many, those do who volunteer will not be expected to
serve every week.
FAITH FORMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY,
CONTINUED
ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASS “I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Ho-
ly Spirit” Mark 13:11. These words from Mark’s gospel remind

Adult Catholics (ages 18 and older) who have been baptized, re-
ceived First Holy Communion but did not complete instruction
for the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to consider com-
pleting the process through our adult faith formation program.
ADDITIONALLY: The Archdiocese of Boston has scheduled
two opportunities (prepared adults) to receive the Sacrament this
fall at two special regional celebrations. For more information or
to register for the adult sacramental preparation program please

CONVALIDATION FOR MARRIED COUPLES Were you married outside the Catholic Church because of a desti-
nation wedding or were you married civilly by a justice of the
peace or family member? Perhaps you were married in a church
of another Christian denomination? In any of these cases you may
want to consider CONVALIDATION of your marriage. Allowing
your union to be blessed and recognized by the Catholic Church
within the code of canon law may be a very simple process de-
pending on the circumstances. Father Dennis, the Pastor of Sacred
Heart would be happy to assist couples interested in exploring the
process of convalidation and resolving circumstances that have
prevented couples from pursuing convalidation in the past. Mar-
riage in the Catholic Church is desirable, not only because of its
meaningful rituals and faith traditions, but because of its impact
on your life, your family and long-term happiness that comes with
a mutual sharing of God’s love in the context of Catholic Mar-
riage. Those who are interested may contact Father Dennis at the
parish office (781) 899-0469.
