Printed mark certificates for Class 11 board examinations would be issued from Monday.

At present, the students can download the statement of marks from the Directorate of Examination’s website, which will be valid till the date of distribution of the printed mark-sheets. The students can also apply for retotal-ling and re-evaluation from June 1. The stu-dents who want to apply for retotalling their answer sheets will have to approach their school from Friday to next Monday.

Likewise, private candidates who want to apply for retotalling should seek assistance from their respective examination centres. While applying for retotalling, both regular and private candidates should mention in the application itself whether they need a copy of the answer sheets. For retotalling, they have to pay Rs 305 for each of the language papers, while for other subjects, they need to pay Rs 205 per paper.

Similarly, for obtaining a copy of the answer sheets, candidates need to pay Rs 550 each for language subjects and Rs 257 per paper for other subjects.

Parking of vehicles in a haphazard manner along the sides of bus route roads in Mogappair East is leading to frequent traffic snarls on a daily basis. In particular, bus drivers are finding it dif-ficult to negotiate their way due to narrowed down motorable space available to them.

Unlike in Mogappair West, where the buses of the Metropolitan Trans-port Corporation largely pass through wide roads with medians separating oncoming and incoming vehicles; in Mogappair East the roads are nar-rower. In fact, all bus route roads in Mogappair East, which begins from the Mogappair East De-pot, passes via Pari Salai, Valayapathi Salai and Bazaar Road in Collector Nagar are single road

stretches with no median to separate traffic on two sides.

Ironically, residents point out that between the two Mogappair neighbourhoods, the one in the East had devel-oped first and the West region in the initial years lacked adequate infra-structure. However, over the past decade or so, the Mogappair West with its wider roads became a hub of activity pushing the East region to the second slot.

“On a daily basis shop-pers, park two wheelers and cars along the road sides in an unorganised manner at most places in Mogappair East. Invari-ably this creates road-blocks and during peak hours traffic slows down and patience runs out,” says Sakthivel, a resident of a by-lane off Valay-apathi Salai.

Metropolitan Trans-port Corporation drivers say their worst nightmare is to face an oncoming bus. “We find that two-wheeler riders park their vehicles in a horizontal manner eating up the motorable space. When there is an oncoming bus, we find it very difficult to negotiate. We have many occasions where the con-ductor gets down and moves the two-wheeler aside, to allow vehicles to pass. Also there is no traf-fic constable in the entire area to regulate flow of vehicles except for in Col-lector Nagar,” says a bus driver, requesting not to be named as service rules do not permit them to talk to the media.

Another bus driver said that though it may not be feasible for the Chennai City Traffic Po-lice to deploy personnel to regulate traffic in the interior roads, they could at least ensure that vehi-cles are not parked in a haphazard manner along bus routes to ease the congestion.

Hotel Server Returns Rs 25 lakh Cash

A waiter at a restau-rant chain in Anna Nagar has

shot to fame by demon-strating the best lesson in honesty when he safe-guarded Rs 25 lakh cash left behind by one of the customers and helped hand it over to the police. His action has earned ac-colades and appreciations poured in from all over including the neighbour-hood.

Ravi, who is working at the Hotel Saravana Bhavan in Blue Star in Anna Nagar, on Thurs-day morning found a bag left behind by a customer who came to have his breakfast along with an-

other man. “Once they left, I found the bag and informed my supervisor immediately,” said Ravi, who has been working as a waiter for 15 years.

According to Balu, who works in a manage-rial position at the restau-rant, the staff decided to wait for a day in the hope that the customer to whom the bag belonged would return looking for i t . Much later, they checked the bag and found the cash totalling Rs 25 lakh.

“In the CCTV footage, we saw that the customer had kept the cash on the sofa and got up to leave without remembering to take it. We thought the customer would come

asking for the missed bag. We informed our owner and then on his advice called the police so that they could restore it to the rightful owner,” he told Mogappair Mail over phone. The police have recommended to the ho-tel to recognise Ravi’s services and give him a promotion as supervisor. Besides, the police pre-sented Ravi a watch. “I just did my duty. Why do we need other’s money,” Ravi said. The hotel has decided to reward him with a gold ornament.

Many people appreci-ated Ravi’s gesture. “These days when you walk into any restaurant, the first thing you could spot is notice boards which read ‘Management is not responsible for your belongings.’ That being the case, this is rare where a waiter at a restaurant has taken the responsibil-ity of safekeeping this large sum of cash missed by a customer. We are happy that such honest people live in our midst,” said Bhavani, a resident of Second Avenue, Anna Nagar.

and Electricity Board Road are up in arms against the construction of a sewage treatment plant next to the EB Road Park in Mogappair East. The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewer-age Board (CMWSSB or Metrowater as it is known in common parlance) has initiated the process of establishing a sewage treat-ment plant on the Electric-ity Board Road.

The plant is coming up adjacent to a park con-structed recently by the Greater Chennai Corpora-tion, which has become a major recreational spot for residents of the area in-cluding numerous chil-dren.

More than seven years ago, the Metrowater had planned to construct the sewage treatment plant at this location. Even at that time local residents had

strongly objected to it rais-ing fears about pollution. “For the last seven years, the Metrowater did not pursue the project. How-ever now it has quietly started to lay the ground-work to establish the sew-age treatment plant just adjacent to the park. Our fear that is improper han-dling of sewage at the proposed plant would lead to air pollution and also lead to air-borne diseases. Not just that, there is a possibility of the tanker lorries spilling the sewage while discharging it in the plant,” said Rajeshwari, a resident of the lane off the Electricity Board Road.

Residents pointed out that quite a few apartments with hundreds of flats and thousands of residents, many independent houses, a school and two marriage halls are located on the Electricity Board road making it a non-feasible location for setting up a sewage treatment plant. “Once the plant is estab-lished and it becomes op-

erational, on a daily basis many tanker lorries would ply on this road carrying many tonnes of sewage from different parts of Mogappair and its sur-roundings. This would in-crease the vehicle density and could lead to acci-dents. Besides, the roads would be battered easily,” argued Swamy Narayan, a resident of an apartment on Electricity Board Road.

“You know how reck-less the drivers of tanker lorries usually are. There-fore you can’t rule out ac-cidents and spillage of sewage en route to the proposed sewage treat-ment plant. But when we contacted the Metrowater officials they contended that the project is a mod-ern day necessity because of the expansion in popu-lation in the neighbour-hood. But I think in the interest of the people, they should give up this project and establish the plant somewhere else,” said Do-rairaj, a resident of Ori Salai.

TNPSC exam aspirants’ age limit raised

The Tamil Nadu government has increased the age limit of can-didates appearing for competitive examination conducted by TNPSC for posts falling under Group-1 category.

The revised qualifying age to

appear in TNPSC Group-I Exami-nation, the upper limit has been increased from 35 years to 37 years for SC, ST, MBC, BC and DNC category and from 30 years to 32 years for other categories. A cross-section of residents living in Mogappair East

that commutes by public transport has sought rein-troduction of the M70 bus route service. The bus on route M70 used to ply be-tween Mogappair East and Thiruvanmiyur until some months ago. However, now it has been withdrawn causing inconvenience to many regular bus commut-ers.

When the Mogappair East neighbourhood was developing into a residen-tial habitat over thirty years ago, only two buses were available for commut-

ing. While the bus on route 7H (at one point called 7J) connected Mogappair East with Broadway; another bus service 27N (at one point called D27 and 27R – according to old timers) took the residents of this neighbourhood to Anna Square.

Over a period of time the bus service on route 134 was introduced to en-able residents to travel up to Choolai and Tollgate. With the expansion of housing units in the neigh-bourhood, the Metropoli-tan Transport Corporation introduced additional ser-vices such as 7E and D70 (one service) that origi-nated in Ambattur Indus-

trial Estate but passed via Mogappair East connect-ing its residents to Broad-way and Velachery respec-tively. Another service on route 147 to T Nagar was also introduced.

“Continuing on these very lines, the Metropoli-tan Transport Corporation introduced a new bus route M70. This bus service was very helpful as many youngsters from here who worked in companies in Guindy and Thiruvanmi-yur availed of the service. However, the service has now been withdrawn for quite some time and there is no sign of it being rein-troduced. We are wor-ried,” said Chandramo-han, a resident of Valay-apathi Salai.

“This bus also served as a utility service for us to directly go to the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. Now we have to go to Collector Nagar or Thirumangalam to get a bus to Koyambedu. I don’t know why the bus service was withdrawn without taking into view the benefit it offered to commuters like us. My son used to go to Thiruvanmiyur and from there board another bus to the IT corridor where he worked. Now he is taking three buses to reach office daily,” complained Hari Narayan, a resident of Mogappair East.

However, when ap-proached with the issue, a Metropolitan Transport Corporation official said it was unlikely that the M70 service would be resumed as it was not profitable for the public agency. “The ticket collections were not very good. We can’t run a bus service at a loss. Now this service is operated f rom Koyambedu to Thiruvanmiyur,” he said.
