M6 Stage 1 December 2020 Your new recreational facilities community update The M6 Stage 1 will connect President Avenue at Kogarah to the M8 at Arncliffe, connecting southern Sydney to the wider motorways network. Our construction activities will have a temporary impact on open space and the recreational facilities at Rockdale Bicentennial Park. We understand how important this area is for you and have continued to work with Bayside Council and the community to develop our plans to upgrade and build new facilities at Ador Park Precinct and McCarthy Reserve, Rockdale and Brighton Memorial Playing Fields, Brighton-Le-Sands. Updating you on our work We started our work on these exciting new facilities in August and are progressing well with its construction. We have been carrying out earthwork activities, utilities work, installing retaining walls, clearing and demolition activities in preparation for building the new football fields. To see our progress to date, please view our time lapse videos available on our interactive portal at nswroads.work/M6portal. We acknowledge that living and being around construction sites can be challenging for the community at times. We appreciate your patience as we carry out this work. Working with local teams We have continued to support local football clubs and worked with both Dolls Point FC and Ramsgate RSL FC to coordinate the donation of the football field lights from Brighton Memorial Playing Fields for use at Scarborough Park East. Our commitment to culture At the start of construction, we were welcomed to the site by representatives of the traditional custodians of the land on which we are working, the Bidjigal people. Our event also featured a traditional smoking ceremony and celebrated our commitment to supporting Ertech’s Aboriginal Participation in Construction (APiC) objectives. To learn more about how we are supporting Aboriginal people on our project please visit our interactive portal. Raising awareness We also recently hosted a socially distanced BBQ acknowledging Movember and the importance of men’s mental health. Your new recreational facilities community update 1

  • Get to know our people

Meet Nathan, an Electrical supervisor with Ertech.

Nathan is an electrical supervisor at Ertech and usually works across Australia on a fy-in, fy-out basis from his NSW base.

Nathan has been able to stay home with his family this year to work on the M6 Stage 1 community recreational facilities project, meaning he maintained ongoing employment during COVID-19.

We had a chat to Nathan about work and life in 2020.

How long have you been working for Ertech?

I started in June 2017 on the Barrow Island Gorgon civil and earthworks project in Western Australia.

What kind of work do you do on our project?

I supervise the electrical work on site which involves trenching, laying conduits and connecting electrical services to power our sites and ensure everything stays running. This includes the feld lighting, amenities building wiring and supporting the temporary ofce facilities.

How has COVID-19 impacted your line of work?

Before COVID-19 impacted us all earlier this year, I was commuting from Sydney to a site at Barrow Island, 70 kilometres of the North West coast of Western Australia. I was on Barrow Island when the border restrictions frst came into place and knew if I went home, I would not be able to return to work. At that point it had been three months since I had seen my family, so I returned to Sydney to see them not knowing what work would look like for a while.

I don’t know where I would be working if I was not on the M6 Stage 1 community recreational facilities project with Ertech.

What are some of the things you do for your work mates on site?

When I started on the project, I didn’t really know anyone. I thought it would be a good idea to get a weekly BBQ happening to bring the team together, so I picked up a BBQ that could be left at the site ofce for everyone to use and now we all use it together every Friday. I usually pay for the food with the funds we receive through the ‘Return and Earn’ program - by recycling our bottles from home!

Our work activities From early next year, we will carry out the following activities:

    • Constructing the pedestrian and cyclist bridges at Ador Park Precinct

    • Installing drainage, lighting, electrical and water services

    • Start building the amenities buildings at both sites

    • Installing the foundations for the skate park at Ador Park Precinct

    • Constructing the foundations for the playground facilities at both sites

    • Installing materials for playing felds
