to build the M4 Smart Motorway. The first of its
kind in NSW, this project will introduce intelligent
technology to the M4 Motorway between Pitt
Street, Mays Hill and Mulgoa Road, Penrith.
When complete, the M4 Smart Motorway is expected to reduce average travel times, provide more reliable journeys and reduce crashes by up to 30 per cent.

The NSW Government is investing $600 million
to build the M4 Smart Motorway. The first of its
kind in NSW, this project will introduce intelligent
technology to the M4 Motorway between Pitt
Street, Mays Hill and Mulgoa Road, Penrith.
When complete, the M4 Smart Motorway is expected to reduce average travel times, provide more reliable journeys and reduce crashes by up to 30 per cent.
Sections of the M4 Smart Motorway will begin to
return to the original speed limit over the next
few months. Where construction continues,
temporary speed limits will remain in place.
Please take note of the signage and drive within
the speed limit.

Transport for NSW will continue work at the
Prospect Highway ramps at Prospect.
The Prospect Highway Ramps will be closed for
a total of four nights between Wednesday 29
January and Friday 7 February to lay asphalt,
complete line marking and ITS (Intelligent
Transport System) infrastructure.

How will the work affect you?
Our work may be noisy at times, but we will do
everything we can to minimise its impact,
including:
• turning off machinery when not in use
• using squawkers rather than beepers on
reversing vehicles.
Traffic changes and detours
There will be temporary traffic changes during
our work hours to ensure the work zone is safe.
Detours will be in place during the ramp closure
and may affect travel times.
Motorists can travel via the Great Western
Highway and the Cumberland Highway.
To ensure the safety of workers and motorists,
please keep to speed limits and follow detour
signs and traffic controllers’ directions.
