Flash is associated with animation,
because it can be used to create text,graphics, audio, video, animation that
can run from a web browser, CD, or
computer.The projects that are developed in the
Flash can be saved or exported .

Source versions are the
original files of Flash because
they can be modified by thecreator because these files
contain the basic media,
Timeline.
versions they are viewed in
FlashPlayer and they can be
downloaded for free.
Executable versions they
are embed in FlashPlayer in
the program, so no special
software is needed.

Flash uses an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) wheredevelopers work with the Stage, Timeline, Media Objects,ActionScript code.
Stage. This is the main area to work visual aspects of theproject.
Timeline. Timeline is set up in rows representing layers andcolumns and time by individual frames.
Media Objects. They can be graphics, audio, and sound areimported into the Flash Library.
ActionScript code. It is a language used to add interactionsand controls to the project.

WORKING WITH GRAPHICS
There are two kinds ofgraphics used in Flashprojects: bitmaps and
vector.
Bitmaps are made ofmany dots that form apicture.
Vector graphics aremade of individual lines,shapes, and locations.

We might start with
projects that involve stick
figures, suns, trees, andhouses. These things are
all easy to create using
the basic draw tools.
Spend some timeexperimenting with lines,
shapes, and colors.

.Differentiate. The use of animation, interaction, and multimediaelements because we can use audio, visuals, and movement to
convey ideas.
Engage. It is the combination of movement, multiple media, andinteraction to a virtual experience.
Teach. It is to create effective instructional materials and learningenvironments.
Versatile. It can be used to create web pages, tutorials, games,simulations, and other application
Quality. Flash produces high-quality files that play well on all
browsers and operating systems. They also print well.
Technology. Once the Flash plug-in has been installed, end usersrarely have difficulty with the technology associated with Flash.

Technology. As such, an animated gif may
make more sense for simple animations.
Ease of Use. It is provided for use of theproject such as directions for using icons,
navigation, and exiting the program.
Accessibility. The multimedia aspects of
Flash can cause problems for some userswith special needs.

Flash provides tools for creating fun, attractive Flashprojects. One of the most popular applications isentertainment.
Two categories will be explored: games and movies.
Games
Some have a practice area. Many games have levels andreward accomplishments.
Movies
Flash projects can draw interest to a website, provide ahumorous introduction to an idea, or simply provide
dramatic visual and auditory experiences. Some examplesof movies include splash introductions, flash banners,cartoons, short-subject movies, and music video.

Information Exploration
Interactive timelines, thumbnail graphics, maps, and other visual tools areoften used to assist users in exploring information, they may quit or useanother information resource. Consider the following types of informationexploration materials:
*Reference materials
Virtual exhibits
Virtual field trips
Digital Storytelling
Sharing oral histories, retelling fables and fairy tales, creating electronic
scrapbooks, and designing online travel logs as the following types of digitalstories:

INSTRUCT
Three areas will be explored: inquired-based activities, Q&A projects, andtutorials.
Inquiry-based Activities
Inquiry-based approaches help users explore questions, conduct investigations,and solve problems. Users are often provided with examples and activities,problems to solve, an encyclopedia of information, and lots of tools. The mosteffective inquiry-based environments are challenging without beingoverwhelming.
In most cases, the program focuses on a core set of principles or strategies.
* Decision making
* Experiments
* Mysteries
* Problem Solving
* Simulations

Q&A PROJECTSQuestion and Answer (Q&A) approach can be used to simply facilitate informationsharing, it can also be used to reinforce concepts and allow opportunities forlearners to practice skills.
Drill and practice When selecting Q&A applications or designing your own, make certain the
program handles questions and answers effectively. Ask yourself:
Are the questions those that users would be likely to ask?
Does the program present stimulating, essential questions rather than trivialfacts?
Are answers or feedback adequately detailed to promote understandingwithout being overwhelming?
Does the order of presentation assist users in their overall understanding of theconcepts?

TUTORIALS
Tutorials present step-by-step instruction teaching
new concepts. Some tutorials are linear. In otherwords, they provide the same information andexamples to all learners in a predetermined order.
The strength of tutorials lies in their consistency andaccuracy. They allow students to work at their own
pace and provide individualized practice andfeedback which is difficult to do in the traditionalclassroom environment.

INFORMATION
ORGANIZATIONWhen designing Flash projects, consider the needs and interests of your audience.It's likely that they are not experts. As such, you'll need to organize information in away to their facilitate critical and creative thinking about your topic.
Consider the following approaches that can be taken to information organization. Procedure - steps
Process - cycles
Product
Reflection
Storytelling
Relationships - characters in book, historical figures, family members
Thematic - historical, literature genre, topic Trace or Track

Elements most often incorporated in Flash projects include animation, interaction,and multimedia. These elements can be applied in different ways to createinteresting, informative projects.
* AIM (Animation, Interaction, Multimedia) Text * AIM Illustrations
* AIM Maps
AIM Text
One of the advantages of using Flash rather than other tools is the ability to
control the font types and styles viewed by the end user. Some ideas include:
* Digital Storytelling
* Electronic books

AIM Illustrations Many of the most popular Flash projects rely heavily on
graphics including charts and graphics, concept maps, linedrawings, scanned documents, and photographs.
AIM Maps Animated, interactive maps are common Flash applications.
They allow users to explore a visual, make choices, and readinformation.
AIM Slide Show
Slide shows are one of the most common presentationformats. They may incorporate illustrations, photos, maps,timelines, or other elements.
AIM Timelines Timelines are used across content areas to help users visualize
the history of a topic.AIM Tools
Flash can be used to create a variety of utilities, calculators,and other tools. These resources are often used as part of alarger tutorial or simulation environment.

It is associated with animation
with relatively little effort, you
can create very sophisticated
projects.
Animation is the act of creating
activity or motion. We couldhave cool animations flying
around on this page, it would
distract from this text.

Flash contains great tools to create a variety of animation such as thefollowing:
Frame-by-Frame. With this type, the developer makes small,individual changes to objects on the Stage within every frame.Although effective, this can be very time-consuming. There are twotypes of tweens: motion tweens and shape tween.
Motion Tweening. Motion tweens move objects from one place onthe Stage to another. For example, well move the airplane across theStage.
Shape Tweening. Shape tweens morph one image into anotherimage.
ActionScript. objects can be animated using ActionScript.
Armature Tweens Use of the bone tool allows lets you add anarticulated structure within the visual object and then connectnaturalistic movements to those bones.

A blank map or timeline becomes interactive when "hot spots" are added toparticular areas.
TYPES OF INTRACTIVITY
Developing quality interaction takes careful planning.Question and Answers
To check understanding To prompt attention To expand thinking
Non-Linear Access For alternatives For depth For remediation
Tools Creativity Tools - write, draw, paint Utilities - mail, print, notes, forms, surveys Reference Tools - glossary, definitions, examples

Events are triggers. They are things that happen while the movie isplaying such as clicking a button or rolling over an image. Actionsare short instructions that tell Flash what things should happen as aresult of events. For example, when a mouse is clicked a sound might
play. ActionScript 2.0 vs ActionScript 3.0
Two versions of ActionScript are currently being used to createinteractivity on Flash projects. Both ActionScript 2.0 and ActionScript3.0 are available in the new versions of Flash. As a result.
ActionScript 2.0 is continuing to be supported because it's sometimeseasier to use than the newer ActionScript 3.0.
(ActionScript 3.0) or Flash File (ActionScript 2.0). If you're not surewhich you are using, and it will provide the ActionScript Version.Although it's possible to convert a project from 2.0 to 3.0, it messes upcoding and is not recommended.

planning is important when building effective information and instructionalexperiences.
Audience
How are they motivated?
Do these people have specific interests or special needs? What technology is available to these people?
Purpose
What are the goals and objectives for the project?
How will you know if you've reached those goals?
Architecture
What information will be incorporated?
What audio, video, and visual elements will be included? What level of interactivity is necessary to meet the goals of the project?

DESIGN ISSUES
Accessibility
As you design materials, be certain that you have
consider use by those with special needs. The capabilities include a captioning component that
allows authors to apply synchronized captions tovideo in Flash, authors can create text-only versions oftheir movies, audio descriptions can be added to
streaming media using cue points, and the interfaceprovides an authoring environment that allowsmeans other than color to convey information.

Packaging & Publishing
File Sharing
You'll probably want to export your project as a
.swf movie so that end users will only need theFlash Player to run it.
Preloader
Many developers like to incorporate a
"preloader" for projects that take a long time todownload. Preloaders are very easy toincorporate into your project.
