    CHAPTER 3INSPECTIONS

    3-1. GeneralWa r n i n g : Before inspection, determine that

    the weapon ia pointed in a safe direction, that livemuada or obstructions ar e NO T present in thebore or chamber, and that the ammunition is notin position to be loaded. Do not pull the triggeruntil the weapon haa been cleared.

    Make an overti inspection of the weapons forappearance, condition, and operation Manuallyfunction, using dummy cartridgea.

    a. t3twraJ. This inspection is conducted on

    materiel in alerted unib scheduled for overseaduty to insure that such materiel will not becomeunserviceable or worn out in a relatively shorttime. It prescribes a higher percentage of romain-ing usable life in serviceable materiel to meet aspecific need beyond minimum serviceabili ty.
