plaints by residents,Corporation workershave started the workof reducing the heightof slabs covering stormwater drains in front ofresidences onHabibullah Road, T.Nagar.

The old slabs cover-ing the drains had beenreplaced with newreadymade slabswhich were thicker andthus created problems.

compounds. Some residentshad created slopes on bothsides of the raised slabs usingrubble to move their vehiclesbut they soon got scattered.

Corporation forming team forsmart city projectBy Our Staff Reporter

The officials responsible for implementing the smart cityproject in Chennai have begun forming a team. The speed ofimplementation of the project, which is to kick off in thecommercial hub of T. Nagar, has been slow.

The project has received a Rs. 200 crore grant from theCentre.

The board of directors of Chennai Smart City Limited(CSCL), the special purpose vehicle formed in May to receivefunds and execute the ambitious project, held a meetingrecently. “All positions in the special purpose vehicle (SPV)have to be filled. We have formed a Project Management Unitwhich will recruit people,” said a senior Corporation official.

The Corporation Commissioner will be the chairperson ofCSCL, to be housed in Amma Maaligai, the annexe of RiponBuildings, while the other directors are the MD of Metrowaterand Tamilnadu Slum Clearance Board, TANGEDCO ChiefEngineer and Additional Commissioner of Police and twoindependent members.

An expo for senior citizens was held on Oct. 8 in VidyodayaGirls Higher Secondary School, T. Nagar.

Geriatrician Dr. V. S. Natarajan spoke on health relatedtopics and gave tips on leading a healthy life.

Memory clinics, naturopathy treatment, geriatric counselingand physiotherapy, fall prevention, adult immunisation andsiddha/varma/ayurveda clinics were some of the attractions inthe expo. There were stalls displaying nutritious food.

Nephrologists, orthopaedics, gynaecologists, psychiatristsand neurologists provided free counseling.

The expo concluded with a light music program andpattimandram. A Tamil book for elders titled ‘Mudhumai OruMuzhu Nila’ authored by Dr. V. S. Natarajan was releasedduring the expo.
