Pink Aid’s second annual luncheon once again exceeded all expectations. About 500 women (and a few good men) came together to support local uninsured and under-insured women battling breast cancer, raising close to $500,000. And those giving got every bit as much out of the experience as those receiving.

As women arrived from Fairfi eld County, New York City and beyond, they mingled and checked out the silent auction featuring stunning Pink Chairs, created by over 30 top interior designers, exciting trips, art, jewelry and designer wares from Mitchells and other local vendors.

For the seated portion, guests were treated to a spectacular Ralph Lauren fashion show, featuring the best of Resort and Spring and debuting Black Label Denim, followed by moving addresses by co-chairs Deb Placey and Trish Paliotta.

Next was a passionate address by The Today Show’s Hoda Kotb, which was at once hysterically funny, brilliantly inspiring and terribly moving. Hoda brought the house down with an ecstatic

standing ovation! The energy and emotion remained high for the next major highlight, the “Celebration of Survivors” fashion show, after which there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Students at Staples and Weston High Schools have joined the effort to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for Pink Aid. In a program spearheaded in its second year by Tammy Zelkowitz, The Staples Wreckers sold T-shirts, while the cheerleaders, varsity soccer, fi eld hockey and volleyball teams all played or baked for the cause. The Wreckers raised an incredible $14,575 for local breast cancer patients in need!

organization With the help of Jean Lepore, athletic director Mark Berkowitz and principal Lisa Wolak, this year, the Weston Trojans played for Pink Aid as well! The football, swimming, volleyball, soccer and fi eld hockey teams sold raffl es and logo items for the cause. Huge thanks to all the students, coaches, teachers and parents that helped!

We are truly honored to have received the President’s Award last fall at the annual Greenwich Hospital Gala benefi ting the Greenwich Hospital Emergency Department. The Roaring ’20s was the theme of the night and guests turned out dressed to the nines.

From the festive attire, the music selection bringing back old memories, and the silent auction unlike any other (with incredible prizes such as a stay at a private South African game reserve and an Hermès Birkin bag), the evening was truly spectacular.

SOLDIERS-TO-CIVILIANS SUIT DRIVEThank you all so much for your support of our veterans with the Soldiers-To-Civilians Suit Drive. The overwhelming support touches our hearts, as well as hearts around the world! Mitchells was gratified to receive the following email and photo, sent from Afghanistan.

As Bill Mitchell said, “Two words: Thank you!” Local communities’ emergency responders, town employees, volunteers and residents, from Weston to Westport, turned out at Mitchells in December to give thanks to all who bravely assisted all those in need during the devastating Hurricane Sandy that rocked our area back in October, and for all of their tireless efforts throughout the year.

Bill Mitchell alongside police officer Ned Batlin.

Dear Bill and Jack,

I noted with great satisfaction your

support of veterans with the Soldiers-

To-Civilians Suit Drive.

Thought you would appreciate the

here until May of 2013. I might be

Thanks for all you do in Westport and

A Good Story is Always in Style...Do the stories make the store or does the store make the stories?

Whatever it is, keep them coming! We love being a place where people congregate, lasting friendships are made and stories are born. On the pages to come, we share some more of our favorites...

California, Here I Come!Tyler Mitchell, pictured with Wilkes Bashford

When I heard about the opportunity to merge with Wilkes Bashford, I was all over it! I had seen our company merge with Richards and Marshs, and I thought ‘How cool... California!’ Getting to work with a fashion icon each day and completing world-class renovations has been a dream! Come let Wilkes and I welcome you to the Townhouse!

I have this strange talent forremembering each of my clients’wardrobes. I had one longtimeclient who had me come to herhouse and help her sort out her closet. I was able to bring new pieces to mix in, because I already knew much of what I’dfind there! We refreshedand updated her look and nowshe looks amazing. We tookpics to remember outfits andshe uses them as a guide. Nowevery time someone gives her acompliment, she says “Eleni.”

Once a Customer, Always an Associate!Rocco Messina Richards Associate Since 2000

After being an avid customer for 10 years, and leaving corporate America, I decided to get into sales. Having been born in Italy, you’ll understand why fashion is in my genes; so I was lucky to land a job at my favorite store! My specialty is “edgier” men’s designs. I love to see customers step a bit out of their comfort zones... and I’m always the one to turn up the music to create the excitement at a party. This season, the brighter colors are in. Orange, lime green, and how about colored denim for men? Come in and let’s have some fun!

A New Generation of StyleGerald Eugene, Ermenegildo Zegna Specialist, Marshs Since 2007

A young man in his 20s walked into the store one day. As he haplessly rustled through the racks, I could tell he had little concept of style. He told me he had just gotten a promotion and wanted to look the part. Since he had never shopped for quality clothing, he came to Marshs on the recommendation of his grandfather. I asked his family name, and when it was revealed, I smiled knowingly. Nearly a decade earlier, the young man’s grandfather stood before me as one of my first clients!

One Big FamilyLaure Sudreau-RippeLawyer, Reiki Master, Lung Cancer Activist Mitchells Customer Since 2003

After losing both parents to cancer, I knew what I had to do when my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer fi ve years ago. We gave up our careers to fi ght this battle, personally and through activism. We approach wellness from all angles... medically, spiritually and nutritionally. The Mitchells hosted a fundraiser for Lung Cancer Research Foundation last year, and likewise, I support their causes. I love how they embrace customers and make our community feel like one big family.

Kindred SpiritsMonica Rich Kosann Photographer/Jewelry Designer

Designing jewelry is my main business, but I’ll never give up my first love, photography. I enjoy working with people to capture the right emotion... sentiment is so important to me. That’s where I’m like the Mitchells. I, too, get close to my customers. First I take photos, then I help them display them. Or I’m layering a client up in jewelry and then putting secret inscriptions and photos inside! Working with them is the best part!

The best part about working on Near & Far is the people you meet... committee members, people running the non-profi ts we support and grant recipients themselves. You bond in a special way with like-minded people who share a passion for this work. We so enjoyed working with Bob and Andrew Mitchell on our spectacular Bollywood-themed event. “ Stylish, timeless and oh so chic. Wilkes is a must-stop on every fashion connoisseur’s world tour.” MICHAEL KORS

The entire Wilkes Bashford team and Mitchell family invite our friends from the East Coast to join our Bay Area community and visitors from around the world in discovering our two magnifi cently redesigned stores in San Francisco and Palo Alto. With the ambitious goal of turning Wilkes Bashford’s legendary Union Square fl agship into a San Francisco icon, we worked with renowned architecture fi rm Gensler Worldwide. The result is a sophisticated 7-story metaphorical townhouse, complete with a Grand Foyer to welcome you and a Penthouse on top, where you’ll fi nd a bar and lounge to enjoy while shopping for men’s custom clothing. Throughout the Townhouse, you will observe the use of unique materials that combine the artisanship of Italy, where a lot of our clothes

come from, mixed with wonderful uniquely San Franciscan details, like wood salvaged from the Presidio and a wall plastered with San Francisco Chronicle articles! Redesigning the new stores included collaborating with several of the world’s top designers, including Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Kiton, Brioni and Ermenegildo Zegna... to create the newest generation of their boutiques in both of our stores. Our Palo Alto store, which caters to the Silicon Valley crowd, was also completely transformed. Both stores are designed to offer uniquely welcoming shopping experiences. Look for Tyler Mitchell or Wilkes Bashford (other Mitchells are often in store as well) in the Townhouse or any of our associates in either store and let us show you around!

Page 44: "M Lifestyle" Spring 2013

“ It has been so much fun having three ‘sister stores’ on the East Coast! We look forward to getting to know you when you visit us out here!” WILKES BASHFORD

The Old Mint on 5th Street is fascinating and very beautiful. It’s being restored and will house the San Francisco Historical Society and Museum. Also, I love the view from the top of Twin Peaks! It’s a very high point with spectacular views of the entire city.

Le Central has been my favorite lunch spot for 38 years. I’ve been eating lunch with Willie Brown and the late Herb Caen there forever. North Beach is a favorite spot for San Franciscans; a lot of political people go there. And Gary Danko is wonderful!

My true love is Mendocino, but it’s over three

hours away, so you have to stay overnight. I also love Carmel and Sonoma.

Tommy Toy.

Tony’s Pizza Napoletano or Tommaso’s.

The Opera House and the Razz Room.

deYoung, SF MOMA, the Legion of Honor and MOAB (Museum of the African

Diaspora) are absolutely fascinating.

Evvia is a wonderful Greek restaurant, owned by the people who own Kokkari in San Francisco, which is Tyler Mitchell’s favorite restaurant.

Also, Kaygetsu for Japanese, and

Tamarine.

Sonoma Chanticleer Fine Books, and Chateau Sonoma Home & Garden Store. Also 3 Dog Bakery is a great and really

unique pet shop. They have all kinds of great edible treats for dogs as well as leashes, etc.

I love Robert Mondavi and Jordan in Napa and Husch on the way to Mendocino in the Anderson Valley... all three have great cabs!

Bottega, Don Giovanni and Meadowood.

The wine train is popular and so much fun! You board in Napa, ride up to St. Helena and get back at 2 p.m. It’s just dining all the way up and back, drinking wine and enjoying the views. What could be bad?!

Come in and see our exciting new “stores-within-a-store” at Mitchells and Richards. Our vision was to bring together today’s hottest ‘edgier’ and up-and-coming designers and present them in a stunning and creative space, where customers are inspired to mix and match designers to define their own style. Both stores include lounge-like sitting areas where friends can relax and mingle. The new Mitchells environment also encompasses the women’s entrance patio, which has been transformed into a chic outdoor lounge where we can host parties. We look forward to welcoming you... come on in and have some fun!

For years, Carin and husband David Riley have collaborated with our creative team as our “go-to” still life photographers for fashion, accessories and jewelry.

Meanwhile, Andrew Mitchell-Namdar has become a fan and collector of her drawings, which he has purchased for all of our stores, including our renovated Wilkes Bashford stores in California, as well as for his homes.

Now, with galleries in Greenwich and Scarsdale, a show in London and a queue of commissions, the artist fi nds herself an overnight “art world sweetheart.”

Riley was born in New York City and studied with famed minimalists including Richard Serra, Brice Marden and Richard Artschwager. Their infl uence is evident in her work. Though her emphasis is still on line and shape, she now straddles the abstract and fi gurative, her lines assuming representational guises. She keeps scrapbooks of inspiration and interprets concepts with a unique freehand.

“I predicted from day one that Carin’s day would come,” says dear friend Andrew Mitchell-Namdar. “I am thrilled for her!”

As “luxury casual” has become increasingly sought-after by our customers, we are thrilled to announce the opening of new and expanded Brunello Cucinelli and men’s and women’s Loro Piana boutiques in Richards. Richards is the exclusive Brunello Cucinelli retailer in Greenwich. And like Greenwich itself, the Loro Piana brand is rooted in heritage and quality. We can’t think of a better match!

Gone are the days when a man’s wardrobe consisted of a few suits and some jeans and khakis. Following the lead of women’s wear — which long ago shifted from suits to separates — as the workplace has become more casual, a new way of men’s dressing has emerged. Many men who once wore suits every day now reserve them for special occasions... but that doesn’t mean they dress for work as if going to a ball game. Hence, the evolution from suit to “luxury casual.” When is “luxury casual” worn? For the well-dressed man, a large percent of the time. It’s ideal for the offi ce or a board meeting, whenever a suit is not required. It’s perfect for a nice dinner or a country club. It has the sophistication to take you

to the theater, a party or an art opening... you get the idea. The key pieces in “luxury casual” are a mix of various components. The sport jacket is the most important element of “luxury casual.” It is unconstructed and may be cashmere, linen, leather, suede, velvet or even a fi ne wool/cashmere sweater. The pant ranges from dress slacks to cords to cleaner, darker denim or even shorts. The shirt is a sport shirt that may be layered with a “dressy” tee and/or polo. A zip-neck cashmere sweater often makes the scene, or sometimes a great vest. Accessories have also joined the evolution. The standard men’s “go-to” shoe wardrobe used to consist of dressy wing-tips and docksiders. Today, great boots, dressy casual shoes and a pair of

brown suede shoes are a must to complete your relaxed and casually elegant look. Men’s lightweight scarves, popular in Europe, are starting to fi lter in here as well. Which designers to look for? In our stores, the leaders in “luxury casual” are Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli and Ermenegildo Zegna. Loro Piana, a pioneer in this space, represents truly timeless luxury... it’s about buying classic pieces of the fi nest materials that you can wear for a long time. Brunello Cucinelli’s styling is a bit more fashion-driven, with trimmer fi ts, sumptuous fi bers and earthy palettes with pops of color. Ermenegildo Zegna’s brand of “luxury casual,” as you’d expect, is more of a direct evolution of the suit, with sleeker lines and slightly more structured sportcoats.

Page 66: "M Lifestyle" Spring 2013

Vest or cummerbund? Either still works.

Bow tie or “regular” tie? While a bow tie is still the more classic formal choice, a “regular” tie is also a great modern look, but it should be a dress tie, rather than a tie you would wear to work. A dress tie should be a solid black, white, gray, silver or the color of your choice, in silk.

Do I still wear my shiny shoes? Today’s dress shoe also has a slimmer silhouette, so they’re okay, as long as they’re not chunky or boxy. Today, most men wear a great black suede or formal black leather shoe... Dedicated “tux shoes” are no longer needed!

Plain white dress shirt or pleated or bibbed shirt? More fi tted, pleated or bibbed shirts are very much in style. Some tux shirts are simpler with less detail, but a plain white dress shirt is not appropriate to wear with a tuxedo.

Studs and cuffl inks? Yes! It’s your opportunity to have fun and show your personality! We have a stunning selection of unique cuffl inks and studs.

Is a black suit passable as black tie? If you want to be a bit less formal or more “creative” in your black tie, a good black suit may be worn, but dress it up with more formal accessories.

Should I wear a pocket square with my tux? You may and if so, a simple white square will do the trick.

If you are like most men, you may be under the assumption that if you’ve ever bought a tuxedo, as long as it still fi ts, you can wear it for life.

Unfortunately, this notion has led to the advent of many men walking around in some very dated-looking formalwear!

Like in men’s suits, there has been a big shift in the way a modern tux should look and fit. Today, tuxedos also have the new, more form-fitting silhouette, which includes a slimmer leg and jacket, a shorter jacket and a flat-front pant.

(Pleats are out!) Lapels are narrower and still may be shawl, peak or notched. Three buttons are another tell-tale sign of an outdated tux, while either one or two buttons are fine.

While most tuxedos are in the standard black, elegant midnight blue tuxes have also made a nice comeback and are a great-looking alternative. Tuxes may also still feature decorative trim in either satin or grosgrain.

So if your tux is looking boxy or baggy, the pants have pleats, the shoulders big pads or there are three buttons... come in and see our stunning men’s formalwear in a broad range of designers and price points.

The Canary Islands.

It was an accident actually. I was studying set design when I met Diana Vreeland—she took one look at an actress’ shoes in one of my set drawings and said, “You should do shoes.”

Joy—and maybe passion.

So many, many things. It depends on my mood—it could be a painting I just saw or even a fl ower in my garden.

I had fun doing the shoes for Sofi a Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.

115mm—that’s high enough, don’t you think?

I met Ms. Parker years ago in a boutique onSunset Boulevard called Madeleine Gallay—we fell in love instantly. Sex and the City certainly has had a major impact on my life and career.

Yes, and some, like platforms, in the most vile ways possible.

I never talk about any of my clients—if you see my shoes on them then you know who they are.

Well, I’m still just getting started!

Valentino was a master as was Mr. Saint Laurent.

For many years—I adore the whole family—it started when I met them in Greenwich.

MANOLO FUN FACTSWhere do you currently live? I still spend a lot of time at my home in the Canary Islands.

What is your favorite vacation spot? Sicily

What are 5 things you can’t live without? Turner Classic Movies, chocolates, my books, socks and terry cloth robes.

What’s your favorite book? Movie? Il Gattopardo—both the movie and book.

What’s on your “bucket list”? I want to keep reading, reading, reading!

A WORLD OF DIFFERENCEPHILIPPE COUSTEAU MAKES ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION LOOKGOOD. BY DONALD CHARLES RICHARDSON

hen Philippe Cousteau was a boy, he wanted tobe a fireman. Then, on his 16th birthday, hismother and sisters gave him a present: aresearch trip to Papua New Guinea. Since thenhe’s been traveling the world, from enduring the

cold of Antarctica to providing humanitarian aid in war-tornSarajevo.

A self-described “explorer, social entrepreneur and envi-ronmental advocate,” Philippe Cousteau is the 32-year-oldson of Jan and Philippe Cousteau Sr. He is also, of course, the grandson of legendary Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau.“My grandfather taught me to always innovate... alwaysquestion,” he says. “Each of us has the responsibility tomake the world a better place.”

Cousteau takes this responsibility very seriously. For him, exploring the connections between humans and the environ-ment is as important as exploring nature itself. He is co-founder of Azure Worldwide, a strategic environmental design, development and marketing company. Along with green sitedesign and planning, eco-tourism and new media, they’re usinginteractive gaming “to help people understand how theiractions impact the environment.” Cousteau is also a specialcorrespondent for CNN International, hosting the Going Greenseries and reporting on environmental and humanitarianissues. He serves on the boards of directors of The OceanConservancy, the Marine Conservation Biology Institute, theNational Environmental Education Foundation and theNational Council of the World Wildlife Fund. He has also testi-fied to Congress on ocean management and off-shore drilling.

In addition, Cousteau is president of EarthEchoInternational, a non-profit organization he foundedwith his sister and mother, whose mission is toencourage youth to take action that restores andprotects our water planet. “My grandfather was awonderful storyteller and communicator,” Cousteaureveals. “He believed you could change societythrough kids.” Following this philosophy, EarthEchocombines education, balanced advocacy and a com-mitment to action, providing programs and tools forstudents to undertake local projects to help theenvironment. It also includes training in citizenjournalism, workshops that teach young people howto write and tell stories about the environment andthe world they live in. “If they can learn [how towrite], their words have meaning. They have power,”he emphasizes. Cousteau is the co-author, withCathryn Berger Kaye M.A., of Going Blue: A TeenGuide to Saving the Oceans, Lakes, Rivers, &Wetlands (Free Spirit Publishing, 2010) and Make ASplash!: A Kid’s Guide to Protecting Our Oceans,Lakes, Rivers, & Wetlands. “We’ve seen firsthand thepassion young people have for the environment.EarthEcho’s focus is to empower youth to make adifference…. Adults often tell me they now recyclebecause their kids insist on it.”

xtending his social and environmentalwork to the financial realm, Cousteau haspartnered with AdvisorShares Investmentsto launch the Global Echo ExchangeTraded Fund on the New York StockExchange (NYSE: GIVE), as well as to formthe GlobalECHO Foundation, a 501 (c)(3)

for which he serves as co-founder and chairman.“The GlobalECHO Foundation is dedicated to sup-porting projects and organizations that have thepower to transform communities and inspire posi-tive change well beyond their geographic bound-aries,” he explains.

Despite the seriousness of his business, Cousteau

has a charming sense of humor. His personal styleis both classic and delightfully unique. In a dressshirt (no tie), a vest and jeans (with a jacket drapedover his suitcase), he also wears two cords aroundhis neck—one featuring a carved cow horn from

Zanzibar, the other a silver shark tooth—as well asnumerous bracelets, including one made of woodenbeads from South Korea, another of Guatemalanembroidery, and a silver one from his fiancée.

Due to his busy schedule, which on any given daymight include taping a television segment during ajungle trek, then attending a fundraiser or making apersonal appearance, Cousteau has had to learnwhich clothes work for him in various settings. ForTV appearances in the wild, he chooses blue cottonshirts and khaki pants; he even has the pants tai-lored for a perfect fit.

For casual wear he likes jeans (which he lets hisfiancée pick out), and on dressier occasions, heprefers three-piece suits. (Recently Cousteau “isinto vests,” in part because they offer pockets for hislatest passion: pocket watches.)

The sense of adventure that has taken Cousteauall over the globe for his work is also reflected in hisprivate life. He even has a list of things he thinks he(and every man of style) should be able to do: fixthings around the house, ride a motorcycle, drive astick shift, tie a bow tie, choose the best wines andspirits, prepare good meals, and barbeque. Andwhat does a man who travels 300 days a year do forvacation? Cousteau smiles. “When work is swim-ming with great white sharks, a day off is sleeping in.”

Sleeping where you drink doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a well-pickled grifter, but the warm buzz from a few glasses of pinot noirundoubtedly nudges most of us into a deep rest. When spendinga snug few nights within a winery, exclusivity, top-notch ameni-ties and epic landscapes combine to make a sensational bottletaste that much better.

We got our teeth red to bring you three of our favorite wineryrefuges, encouraging you to toss the keys on the mahogany table, stay the night, and wake up to a crisp sparkling white…for breakfast!

CASTELLO DEL TREBBIO IN PONTASSIEVE, ITALY

Anyone can drink good wine in Italy, but not everyone can saythey’ve clinked glasses and spent the night in a medieval castle.

Located atop the San Brigida hills roughly a half-hour fromFlorence, the castle-turned-mansion villa is surrounded by lushgrape vines, olive groves and saffron crocuses.

Trebbio offers a subtle modernity while respecting history andtradition. (Castles are made of stone and get cold, so central heat-ing and electricity are fêted where they can be found!) The castletower that once protected the fortress still stands, but now servesas a welcoming entry. The estate warden, although retired, stillgreets guests in traditional clothing, and the dungeons with theironce murderous hooks remain to hold Chianti hostage inTrebbio’s wine cellar. The cave-like restaurant is a relativelyrecent addition, whose dishes enhance the celebratedRiesling/pinot grigio blend and the aforementioned Chianti.

Built by the Pazzi family, Renaissance-era Florentine bankers, thecastle first changed hands in the 14th-century after a bloody clashwith the Medici clan. But today, romance is the main focus onTrebbio’s 800 acres. The property hosts many a bride and groomfrom around the world, as well as those seeking a fairy tale settingfor any occasion.

The villa is separated into three apartments, each rustic andcozy with its own patio, private garden and swimming pool. (Thosewho plan to cook or bring a chef should request the one previouslyoccupied by the owners; it has the most modern appliances.)

Guests can arrange activities like Italian language courses, painting or cooking classes and horseback riding. Hiking and bik-ing trails lined with chestnut trees and olive groves lead from thevilla to the lake and the local village.

JORDAN WINERY IN HEALDSBURG, CALIFORNIA The picturesqueroads that snakethrough NorthernCalifornia’s winecountry don’t justlead to Napa andSonoma. About anhour northwest isHealdsburg, aninsider’s enclave.

Filled with fab foodie spots, the town is rich with wineriesthat reap their fruits from the crossings of the Russian River,Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys.

Within that dynamic topography lies the 1,500-acre, fami-ly-owned Jordan Winery. Tastings are open to anyone witha palate, but a night’s stay within the 18th century-esquechâteau (actually built 37 years ago for a reported $15 mil-lion) is only for oenophiles in Jordan’s loyalty program.Earn reward points through the purchase of two award-win-ning wines, a cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay that haveimpressed chefs and sommeliers since 1976.

Built by the architects responsible for George Lucas’Skywalker Ranch, the château includes seven unique rooms, each with high wood beamed ceilings, red tiled floors andauthentic Louis XIII antiques. Below the suites is the regaldining room and Chef Todd Knoll’s kitchen, where he andhis hospitality director wife Nitsa marry epicurean innova-tion with tradition using the freshest ingredients from theplentiful garden outside. Fava greens, cremini mushroomsand haricots verts are just a few of the treats served onBaccarat crystal and Madeira linens to overnight guests likeBono, Pierce Brosnan and Michael Mina.

After dinner, the lucky are invited to enjoy a glass (ortwo) in CEO John Jordan’s private 1920s-style hangar.Besides a bar, pool table and vintage shuffleboard, hekeeps his bright yellow piper cub plane and a museumquality collection of World War I and II-era memorabiliaon display to dazzle those who wander in

MATETIC WINERY IN CASABLANCA VALLEY, CHILEThe Casablanca Valley, a midway point between Valparaiso and Santiago, is a wine region just 11miles from the water, bathed in cool breezes and morning fogs from the Pacific. The result: a ‘pre-mium cool valley’ where chardonnay and sauvignon blanc vines can thrive.

Just southwest of Casablanca is the futuristic-looking Matetic Winery, discreetly tucked into theslope of a hillside within the San Antonio Valley. Pioneering 21st-century enotourism, the avant-garde property features a dramatic oval barrel cellar and two swish tasting rooms replete with awaterfall.

Try the organic pinot noir, syrah, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay within the gleaming wood andglass winery, then take a short drive to the elegant yet rustic La Casona. The traditional colonial-style estancia and hacienda is also a working family ranch and vineyard that sits on 27,000 acreshugging the Rosario Valley.

The adobe guesthouses are chic and stylish thanks to a 2004 renovation. Seven rooms are each named after a wine and enhanced with a privateterrace. They boast four-poster beds and rich damask curtains that flank windows with views of palm trees and verdant wild gardens (though theviews from the swimming pool are some of the most staggering).

Dining options include the gourmet restaurant Equilibrio or a private chef who prepares indulgent breakfasts and dinners. Organic and sustain-able is the agenda, so guests can expect mostly handcrafted ingredients, from homemade breads and sheep’s milk cheeses to honeys and jamsmade from grape, fig, papaya and pomegranate trees growing on the land. (There’s even a family-run cheese operation to tour on the property!)
