BIRTHDAY PARTY Welcome Fall! The BGC is getting back into the swing of things. We have lots of great trips and classes every day of the week. Thank you to our members who are consistently wearing their masks properly. That is so important for the safety and peace of mind people have when attending the Center.

Due to the lack of participation, we are ending the Senior Nutrition Program until we find a better solution. Staff will be planning a once a week meal to break up the monotony of bringing your lunch every day. Stay tuned for more information.

I’ll BGC-ing you!

MEET THE AUTHOR Marian Bell has released her first memoir, “Herein Lies the Truth.” A precocious child of eight discovers something in the attic that makes her question her true identity. Over the following five decades she digs for the truth, sometimes finding lies and half-truths. Sorting fact from fiction, she becomes obsessed with learning her origins. While discovering love, hope, and revelation through her research, she travels beyond the un-known to come out into the light and finally discovers herself.

You can purchase a copy of the book for $16 (cash only)..............................................................................................................................THURSDAY, OCT 28 • 11 AM

MEET THE AUTHOR BGC member Richard Foster will read from his book, “Topiltzin as Calakmul: A Natural Fantasy.” The book was illustrated by his daugh-ter, Ariel Cavalcante. A professional couple in Boston, jittery about a surprise pregnancy, flirts with outlandish names, and finally names their first child Topiltzin, the famed plumed serpent of ancient Mayan mythol-ogy. At age 10, the child is fascinated with snakes and reptiles. At 25 he becomes a snake scientist, marries, and does research in Mexico with the poisonous bushmaster. Later, because of a family tragedy, “Topi”

attempts to take his life, but he is transformed into a grotesque creature, part man, part bird and part snake. The reborn Topi com-municates with rain forest animals and rallies them to fight for their survival. He works hand-in-hand with his partner, Solange, a Brazil-ian scientist. Forced out of Mexico, they move to the US and later to Africa, where Topi flies above ele-phant herds to protect them from poachers.

The story of Topiltzin is an inspira-tion to readers young and old, and an example, albeit a fantastic one, of what can be done to save the animals.

You can purchase a copy of the book for $30 (cash only).
