Marie-Jose Lord

Depuis quelques annes, le succs de Marie-Jose Lord sur scne et sur disque ne sedment pas. Quelle interprte des airs de Verdi, de Puccini, des chansons de SergeLama ou de Gilles Vigneault dans son spectacle Bouillon, ou encore des chansons espa-gnoles et portugaises dans Voyage latin, Marie-Jose Lord jouit de manire constante delaffection du grand public. Elle fait salle comble partout o elle passe.

Si le succs de son interprtation du rle de Marie-Jeanne dans lopra-rock Starmania lOpra de Montral en 2008 a fait delle une chanteuse lyrique populaire, elle ennprouve pas moins le dsir de continuer dtablir des ponts entre les rpertoiresclassique et populaire et comme elle le dit si bien, Marie-Jose Lord dsire infuser lopradans ce quelle fait tout en gardant la technique classique. Son nouveau disque, Yo soyMara, en est la preuve clatante !

F or several years now, whether singing arias by Verdi and Puccini and songs by Lamaand Vigneault in her show Bouillon, or Spanish and Portuguese songs in Voyagelatin, Marie-Jose Lords performances have never failed to be a hit; her audiences al-ways enjoy and love her performances, and her shows are always sold out.

Lords success as Marie-Jeanne in the rock opera Starmania at the Opra de Montral in2008 established her as an opera singer with popular appeal. Ever since, she has workedto bridge the gap between classical and popular music. Her new disc, Yo soy Mara,provides striking evidence of her success in achieving what she has so often said she aimsto do: to infuse opera into every project, and always to respect classical technique.

Buenos Aires, mais le lieu et la date de sa naissance demeurent encore aujourdhuiun sujet de controverse entre historiens. Pour certains, sa naissance aurait eu lieu le11 dcembre 1890 Toulouse en France, tandis que pour dautres, il sagirait plutt du11 dcembre 1887, en Uruguay. Nous connaissons cependant la date de sa triste mort,survenue le 24 juin 1935 dans un accident davion prs de Medellin en Colombie. Le tangoMi Buenos Aires querido est aussi le titre dun film de Julio Irigoyen ralis en 1936, danslequel la chanson de Gardel avait t intgre la bande sonore.

W e know that Carlos Gardel, the most prominent figure in tango during the firsthalf of the 20th century, grew up in Buenos Aires, but historians cannot agree onwhere and when he was born. Some claim it was on December 11, 1890 in Toulouse,France, while others say it was on December 11, 1887 in Uruguay. We do, however, knowthat he died tragically on June 24, 1935 in an airplane crash near Medellin, Colombia.The tango Mi Buenos Aires querido is also the title of the 1936 film by Julio Irigoyen, thesound track of which uses Gardels song.

Le bolro Bsame Mucho a t crit en 1941 par la compositrice mexicaine ConsueloVelzquez, daprs une aria dEnrique Granados, alors quelle navait que17 ans. Enregistre dabord par lacteur mexicain Emilio Tuero, la chanson a t adapteen anglais ds 1944 par le chanteur et pianiste amricain Nat King Cole. partir de cemoment, Bsame Mucho a t interprte dans le monde entier par des centainesdartistes comme The Beatles, Sammy Davis, Jr., Plcido Domingo, Jos Carreras, FrankSinatra et Diana Krall.

Sur des paroles en franais de Michel Rivegauche et interprte par dith Piaf en 1957,la chanson La foule est une reprise de Que nadie sepa mi sufrir, une valse pruviennedorigine argentine, dont les paroles originales sont dEnrique Dizeo et la musique signepar ngel Cabral. la suite du succs de ladaptation franaise, elle fut remise la modeen espagnol sous le titre Amor de mis amores.

T he song La foule, with French lyrics by Michel Rivegauche, was performed by dithPiaf in 1957. It is a version of Que nadie sepa mi sufrir, a Peruvian waltz of Argen-tine origin, with lyrics by Enrique Dizeo and music by ngel Cabral. Following the suc-cess of the French adaptation it became a Spanish hit once again under the title Amorde mis amores.
