Lydia Cooke Evaluation Of Rough Music Video Edit

One particular improvement that needs to be made has to be the footage where a band member is miming the words to the song. This needs improving as the band member’s speech is not in time with the music. We can make this improvement easily by re – filming the footage in the same location as the previous time. We would also need to film more than one of these scenes, as it would give us a wide range of footage to choose from and study which one works the best. I could also improve this shot by adjusting the lighting, making it slighter brighter so it’s clearer to see and finally tidy the shot up by making sure nothing that isn’t needed is in the shot. Also my music video needs to have more of an obvious narrative included. As at the moment the shots and footage I have do not clearly tell a story. The music video needs to show a band member entering strangeways prison in Manchester, and showing his life in a cell. He then performs the song with the rest of the band in different parts of the prison. As we

could not film

directly inside the prison, we had to create and think about alternative ways we could make it seem like the band are actually inside the building. We have filmed some footage of the band members looking as if they are walking out of prison, as they have just dropped one band member off in prison. In my opinion these are two of the best shots, as they do contain some sort of narrative. I think we definitely need to film more footage of the band members close to the prison, and more footage of different band members performing. We have plenty of location shots in our music video, so one of the main focuses on improving out music video is filming more narrative footage.

Another improvement that needs to be made on my music video is certainly the ending. As my music video ends, it quickly flashes through a few location shots, and then has a sudden ending. I would prefer the music video to fade out, as I think it would look more professional and tidy. Another minor problem with the ending is that the song quickly cuts off. I tried to fade it out as much as I could, but I need to find an alternative way of ending the song. I could consider opening the song up in Reaper, and editing the song so it fades out with a more professional standard. Some of the last shots of the video were also used at the start of the video, simply because I did not have enough footage. I could simply improve this problem by filming more relevant footage to complete my music video.

One improvement that needs to be made is simply making sure everything that’s in the shot that’s needed stays in the shot and everything that is not needed is removed from the shot. For example the shot above shows a band member performing in a prison cell, the only important focus in the shot is the band member and his instrument. On the far right the rim of window is showing quite clearly, this is not needed in the shot therefor should not be there. The way to improve these minor shot errors is simply making sure through the camera that everything in the frame is correct and if not, re focus the camera until the shot is

nothing but perfect. With filming each shot, we need to make sure as a group that our footage looks professional and presentable.

We shot lots of footage of the band playing the drums and guitar. We tried to shoot these shots from different angles to show a variety of camera shots and skills. Such as a birds eye shot, close up shot, long shot and extreme close up. We adjusted the focus on the camera on some shots so the audience could only see the instrument clearly and not the background as the background would be blurred out. Simply getting the message across of what’s most important in the shot. We each have at least one shot with us holding or playing an instrument, just so we made sure each team member was included in the music video.
