The Livermore Valley is thriving community located 45 miles East of San Francisco and was established as a wine growing region in the 1880’s when commercialized wineries began to appear. Due to its geographical location and easy access to the Silicon Valley and San Francisco, the city experienced a population boom in the mid1990’s that has transformed it to a largely suburban population. Public transportation is widely available with options such as BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) a transit system that services the Bay Area, ACE Train (Altamont Commuter Express) which provides service from the Central Valley thru Livermore and into the Silicon Valley, and Wheels Bus which runs locally between the neighboring cities. To the north of the city lies Interstate 580, a major Bay Area artery with over 200,000 average daily traffic. Highway 84 is a popular commute route leading south to the Silicon Valley and Vasco Road leads north of the city to the Delta communities.

While keeping to its agricultural roots, Livermore wine country is comprised in excess of 50 wineries. Wineries have grown into the downtown area where a common theme has erupted in support of local vintners and tasting rooms. Traditional shopping centers are found more commonly in the retail centers on the interstate while the downtown is primarily dominated by local restaurants and shops. The community continues to flourish despite the market downturn with development plans for a 2,000-seat regional performing arts theatre in downtown, 550,000 square foot Paragon Premium Outlet Center under construction, and the designation of the I-Gate incubator which will continue the Valley’s legacy of innovation in science and energy.
