The doctor is in.Cindy Perkins, a chiropractor who lives
and works in Lutz, won the annual LutzGuvna race, a campaign for the ceremonialtitle where all the money raised goes tolocal organizations.
Perkins claimed the Guvna sash by rais-ing the most money during her campaign.
I was very excited, and I still am. I wasvery shocked, actually, said Perkins, ownerof Back in Health Wellness Center on NorthDale Mabry Highway in Lutz.
Her campaign win was no landslide vic-tory, however. According to Eleanor Cecil, amember of the Lutz Civic Association, therace went down to the wire.
It was very close. I really think it wasthe closest weve ever had, she said.
In a campaign season where the fivecandidates raised almost $9,500, Perkinsedged Papa Jay Muffly by less than $10.The totals were counted multiple times toensure they were correct.
The funds raised by all the candidateswill be distributed to local organizations. Inthe past, recipients have included BoyScouts and Girl Scouts, Friends of the LutzBranch Library, the Old Lutz School, theCivil Air Patrol, and the Lutz Patriots.Between 15 and 20 different groups will re-ceive grants from the Guvna race in atypical year.
Cecil, who has been involved with therace for about 13 years, said the money isonly part of what makes the Lutz Guvnarace special. The entire event is supposed tobe fun, and the candidates are expected to

Theres one question Susan MacManusgets more than any other as we head into acontentious election season. And despite herlong and impressive credentials as a politicalscientist, even she cant answer it.
Who will occupy the governors deskafter November? Will Rick Scott stay put? Will Charlie Crist return as a new man? Or isit time for Nan Rich to take over?
Who is going to win the governorsrace? I dont know yet, MacManus, a LandO Lakes native, told the Republican Club ofCentral Pasco on June 25. And neither doyou.
Two things for certain are that this couldnot only be the most expensive governorsrace in history, but also the most negative.Political groups on both sides already havelaunched mud-slinging ads against eachother, Scott taking hits for the Medicarescandal that rocked his former company inthe 1990s, and Crist for raising taxes andfees during the economic downturn.
Want a good look at whats to come? One only has to look back to the recent spe-cial Congressional election in PinellasCounty between Democrat Alex Sink andRepublican David Jolly, MacManus said.
The mood of the public is a very angrymood, the University of South Florida pro-fessor said. They are very disappointed in
