+ Top 10 Energy Benefits of Light Control

1. Light Control Increases Comfort and Improves Productivity.

2. All Lutron Dimmers Save Energy.

3. All Light Sources Use Less Energy When Dimmed.

4. Dimming Saves Energy and the Environment While Enriching Your Life.

5. Lutron Solutions Contribute to 37 out of 110 Possible Points in the LEED® 2009 NC Rating System.

6. Using Dimmers Saves Money.

7. Shading Solutions are also Energy Efficient.

8. If Every US Homeowner Changed 2 Light Switches to a Dimmer…Lutron estimates that by installing just two dimmers in place of two standard light switches in every home in the US, the potential annual savings could be $1.5 billion in electricity and close to 25 billion pounds of CO2—the equivalent to taking more than 1 million cars off the road.

9. Lutron Systems can Automatically Save Money and Energy. Automated systems like daylight and occupancy sensors and the HomeWorks® astronomic timeclock can turn on lights according to changes in light or the time of day. Without any input from the user, Lutron systems can reduce energy costs and usage.

10. All Lutron Dimmers Extend Bulb Life. Incandescent and halogen bulbs last up to 20 times longer when used with a dimmer, increasing the money saved.

+Benefits of HomeWorks QS

Convenience: Create “scenes” with HomeWorks QS — preset light and shade levels that you can recall at the touch of a button. For example, press the “Entertain” button on the keypad in your foyer and lights and shades will adjust throughout your home to create just the right light.

Security: HomeWorks QS integrates with home security systems. In the event of an alarm, interior lights turn on, illuminating a safe exit, while exterior lights flash to attract attention. HomeWorks QS also makes a home safer by automatically turning landscape and security lighting on and off each night.

Rest Assured: Before you retire for the night, lower your shades, turn all the house lights off and set back temperature from the comfort of your bed with the “Goodnight” button. Not only can you control the lights that surround you, but also the lights halfway across your home—so you can rest assured no lights are left on, wasting energy.

Integration: HomeWorks QS easily integrates with 3rd party manufacturers. Control lights, shades, audio-visual equipment, and temperature controls from a single keypad.

+Which Light Bulb is Right for Me? General Rules

Use a halogen bulb with a dimmer where:

Light quality is important

You want energy savings with ambiance

You want to control the light with dimmers, timers, or sensors

Use a CFL bulb, possibly with a dimmer, where:

Light quality isn't important

There is no risk of children or animals breaking the bulb

You want maximum light with minimum energy consumption

You don't need sensors or timers

Halogen Bulbs: an efficient variety of incandescent lighting, are up to 30% more efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs. When dimmed by 30%, they offer many benefits of CFL and standard incandescent lights without the drawbacks.

Incadescent Bulbs: provide rich and warm light quality, excellent color rendering, & controllability, but are the least efficient.

Screw-in CFL Bulbs: energy efficient and have the longest life of all light bulbs. However, they provide less pleasing light, start up slowly, may flicker, and are not disposable because of their mercury content. Most dim poorly.

control over the electrical components of a home. These systems are a smart option for residential and commercial applications. Aging in Place is a prime consideration for the application of a lighting control system.

Lutron offers a wide array of products beyond HomeWorks QS that are more affordable and can be integrated into existing construction via RadioRa or utilizing traditional electrical installations.

HomeWorks QS is specifically designed for exclusive residential projects with high volume lighting loads. Lighting “scenes” are determined by a lighting designer to increase efficiency and promote ambience in large homes utilizing cutting edge technology.

Dimming keypads are the simplest way to control light levels and conserve energy consumption while increasing lamp life. Lutron offers retrofit dimmers for installation in existing switch panels when a lighting control system is not an option. When halogen bulbs are dimmed by 30%, they offer many benefits of CFL and standard incandescent lights without the drawbacks.

Third party integration via Savant and portable devices yield an unprecedented level of control for the modern luxury homeowner. Especially, when paired with a homes HVAC, Security and AV/Video components.
