A Word From Our PresidentWelcome to Petersburg, Kentucky, home of the famous Creation Museum!

Thank you for making time to join me on another life adventure with Lutherans For Life at this year’s conference!

Did I say adventure? Yes, I did!

I don’t know about you, but for me, the adventure started by just making arrangements to leave my home and occupation and travel to Kentucky. But, I know this adventure is well worth the time and effort!

The conference theme—Created • Redeemed • Called—alone gives the feel of adventure. Only an adventuresome, creative Triune God could and would create man and woman so fearfully and wonderfully

in His image. Even though that image was corrupted by sin, He chose to redeem us by the blood of His one and only Son and call us into a relationship with Him as His own!

The adventure continues as we:

• Worship, pray, and hear the Gospel message with Rev. Dr. Jim Lamb, Ken Ham, and others.

• Enjoy fellowship, and laugh and sing together with Buddy Davis.

• Explore and discover the wonders of the human body, discuss evolution vs. the sanctity of life, and discuss the power of faith in the halls of power with Dr. David Menton, Col. John Eisdmoe, and Timothy Goeglien.

• Learn and be encouraged with John Hawkins and Lori Trinche.

• Meet new friends and faces and appreciate familiar friends and faces.

Lastly, the venue of the Creation Museum itself is an adventure just waiting to be experienced! There are so many fabulous, fun, and educational displays that you will be amazed! But why should we be amazed, for God created the creators behind this beautiful museum!

So, come along with me on this incredible Lutherans For Life adventure! You will be glad you did—and so will I!

Adventuring with you, serving the Lord of Life!

Lynette AuchPresident

Davis, Buddy – Gifted by God in many ways, Buddy Davis is a speaker and singer/songwriter for AiG (Answers in Genesis). He is an adventurer and paleo-artist, and he leads the very popular “Creation Adventure” children’s workshop at AiG conferences and at the Creation Museum. Buddy plays many acoustic instruments, and his music is enjoyed around the world. As a speaker for AiG, Buddy’s talks cover a wide range of topics. Whether geared for adults, children, or the whole family, Buddy’s messages are aimed at the lay audience. His easy-to-understand style makes him popular with listen-ers of all ages. As an author and illustrator of children’s and family books, Buddy is once again able to minister to a wide range of people. Fiction and non-fiction, print and audio, Buddy’s easy-to-read style is perfect for fam-ily read-aloud time and classroom use. As a songwriter, the sole purpose of Buddy’s music is to uphold the authority of God’s Word and draw people to a closer walk with Jesus Christ, our Creator and Savior. Hard-hitting songs like “Godly Men” and “I Believe” (written by Buddy) have ministered to

many. Buddy plays a variety of folk-style instruments (e.g., guitar, mandolin, harmonica), and his down-home-America singing style is pleasing to all. He has recorded 12 CDs, and when he is at the museum, Buddy does a concert every day. Buddy’s greatest adventure happened in the north of the Alaskan tundra (within the Arctic Circle) with his search for dinosaur bones. His exploration for Noah’s Ark took him to Mt. Ararat in Turkey. Buddy is easily recognized in his explorer clothes and trademark hat. This image allows Buddy to connect with families in a special way, and the children always recognize him as the star of the Creation Adventure Team’s award-winning videos. As a “paleo-artist,” Buddy specializes in building life-size dinosaur sculptures. He has sculpted more than sixty impressive dinosaur models, many of which have found a new home in the Creation Museum. His work has been featured worldwide in newspapers, magazines, books, and on television.

Eidsmoe, Col. John – Col. John Eidsmoe is a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, a retired Alabama State Defense Force Colonel, a Mississippi State Guard Colonel and Chaplain, and a graduate of the Air Command & Staff College and the Air War College. He is Professor of Law at the Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy, and in his various teaching assignments, his students have given him the Outstanding Professor Award or Prof of the Year Award five times. He has served as Senior Staff Attorney with the Alabama Supreme Court and is currently Senior Counsel & Resident Scholar for the Foundation for Moral Law. He is an ordained pastor with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations and serves on the Board of Lutherans For Life, on the Board of the Plymouth Rock Foundation, and on the Board of the Gospel Martial Arts Union. He is a constitutional attorney who has defended home schools, Christian schools, the right of students to study the Bible in public schools, and the right to display the Ten Commandments in the public arena. He has authored fourteen books, including Historical

& Theological Foundations of Law, Christianity & the Constitution, God & Caesar, and Columbus & Cortez, and has produced numerous audio and video lecture albums including The Institute on the Constitution and Here I Stand: A Biblical Worldview for a New Millennium. He holds seven academic degrees in law, theology, history, and political science. A lifelong student of the Crusades, he is a Knight Commander and Chaplain for the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (smotj.org). He is a Third Degree Black Belt with the American Taekwondo Foundation, a Fifth Degree Black Belt with the Gospel Martial Arts Union, and a Fifth Degree Black Belt with Black Belts of the Faith International. Colonel Eidsmoe is an avid horseman and skier, and he tries to get eight hours of sleep every week. He and his wife, Marlene, have been married since 1970, have three children (David, Kirsten, and Justin), and live in rural Pike Road, Alabama.

Conference Speakers and Workshop LeadersHam, Ken – Since moving to America in 1987, Australian Ken Ham—presi-dent and founder of Answers in Genesis-US, the highly acclaimed Creation Museum (which has had well over two million visitors since it opened), and visionary behind the construction of a full-size Noah’s Ark—has become one of the most in-demand Christian conference speakers and talk show guests. (In one year alone, he appeared on Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor and Fox and Friends in the Morning, CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, ABC’s Good Morning America, the BBC, and so on.) He became internationally known for his 2014 creation/evolution debate with Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” which has been watched by an estimated 15 million people. In May of 2007, Answers in Genesis opened its high-tech and ac-claimed Creation Museum and education center in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area (on 70 scenic acres in Petersburg, Kentucky). The brainchild of Ken Ham, the state-of-the-art facility contains dozens of world-class exhibits—including impressive animatronic dinosaur models, a $1 million allosaur fossil, and planetarium—which are now on display inside the 75,000-sq-ft

museum. In its first seven years, the museum attracted over two million guests. AiG is building the Ark En-counter, an attraction featuring a life-size Ark as its centerpiece, about forty miles south of the museum. A biblical apologist, Ken gives numerous faith-building talks to tens of thousands of children and adults each year (he receives hundreds of invitations to speak annually) on such topics as the reliability of the Bible, how compromise over biblical authority has undermined society and even the church (which is seeing a massive exodus of young people), witnessing more effectively, dinosaurs, “races,” and so on. Ken cofounded AiG in 1994 with the purpose of upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse. Ken is the author of many books on Genesis, including the eye-opening book Already Gone, coauthored by renowned researcher Britt Beemer, on why so many young people have left the church, the best-selling The Lie: Evolution, and a number of children’s books (Dinosaurs of Eden, D is for Dinosaur, A is for Adam, and so on). Other recent coauthored books include One Race, One Blood and How Could a Loving God …?, and the provocative book Already Compromised about Christian colleges and how they treat the authority of the Bible. Ken is heard daily on the radio feature Answers with Ken Ham (broadcast on more than 850 stations) and is a frequent guest on national TV talk shows. Ken is also the founder of the award-winning Answers magazine, which won the prestigious “Award of Excellence” (for top Christian magazine) in 2011 from the Evangelical Press Association. Ken’s bachelor’s degree in applied science (with an emphasis on environmental biology) was awarded by the Queensland Institute of Technology in Australia. He also holds a diploma of education from the University of Queensland (a graduate qualification necessary for Ken to begin his initial career as a science teacher in the public schools in Australia). In recognition of the contribution Ken has made to the church in the USA and internationally, Ken has been awarded four honorary doctorates: a Doctor of Divinity (1997) from Temple Baptist College in Cincinnati, Ohio; a Doctor of Literature (2004) from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia; a Doctor of Letters (2010) from Tennessee Temple University; and a Doctorate in Humane Letters from Mid-Continent University in Kentucky (2012). Ken and his wife, Mally, reside in the Cincinnati area. They have five children and fourteen grandchildren.

Menton, David – Dr. David Menton was born in Mankato, Minnesota, and grew up as an only child in a Christian family. He was blessed to share God’s Word as a Sunday school teacher, church elder, and president of the congregation. Since early grade school, Dr. Menton has had a strong inter-est in science of all kinds. While in grade school, he converted a small room in the basement into a well-equipped chemistry laboratory. Many of the birthday and Christmas gifts he received during childhood were of a scien-tific nature, including a chemistry set, mineralogy collection, microscope, telescope, and binoculars. This lifelong interest in science led to his study of biology and chemistry at Minnesota State University in Mankato, where he graduated with a BS degree in 1959. After a six-month tour of active duty in the Army Reserves, Dr. Menton worked two years as a research laboratory technician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He left Mayo to do graduate work at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he received a PhD in biology in 1966. His thesis research dealt with the effects

of essential fatty acid deficiency on the structure and epidermal barrier function of skin. Following graduation from Brown, Dr. Menton accepted a position in the department of anatomy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. At Washington University, he conducted research and taught human gross anatomy and histology. He received awards both for his research and teaching, including twice being awarded Profes-sor of the Year by the senior class. During his tenure at Washington University, Dr. Menton served as the histology consultant for five editions of Stedman’s Medical Dictionary and was a guest lecturer in histology at Stanford University Medical School. He spent two summers studying an unusual wound-healing mecha-nism in sea cucumbers (a marine invertebrate) at Woods Hole Marine Biology Laboratory on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Dr. Menton retired in the year 2000 as an Associate Professor Emeritus after 34 years on the faculty. Shortly after retirement, Dr. Menton joined Answers in Genesis as a speaker and researcher. He now travels and speaks for AiG throughout much of the U.S. as well as overseas, including recent events in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Trinidad, Peru, and Turkey. He has also contributed numerous articles to Answers magazine and book chapters to The New Answers Book 2. Dr. Menton conducts special workshops by arrangement for school and church groups of all ages. In the workshops he employs photographs, anatomical models, and a special video microscope to cover a wide variety of topics on life science.

Trinche, Lori – Lori was born in Chicago and grew up in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, where her sister and extended family currently reside. She graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with a BSBA and later completed her MBA through Ellis College – New York Institute of Technology. Before joining the LFL staff, Lori worked for Waste Management in Downers Grove, Illinois, in billing, accounting, pricing analysis, and application development management. Lori has been active in church and community leadership where she serves or has served as a leader in the Restore post-abortion ministry for CareNet of DuPage, as a small group leader, GraceCare provider, member of the hospital visitation ministry team, steering committee member for DuPage PADS at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, Illinois, at the People’s Resource Center in Wheaton, in the HavenSource financial ministry, as well as on the volunteer data entry team for Lutheran Church

Charities. She has been active in helping to organize mobile packs for Feed My Starving Children and in leading volunteer coordination and registration for Community Serving Clinics. National Essay Contest WinnersThis is the inaugural year for the National Essay Contest sponsored by the Council of Federation Presidents (COFP). Many of our Lutherans For Life State Federations and Life Chapters conduct state and local essay contests annually. Last year the COFPs decided to implement a national contest for Lutheran students. Two levels were established: the elementary category, grades 6-8, and the high school category, grades 9-12. State winners were advanced to the national level. Many remarkable students who won their state contests progressed to the national level. The national award for one student in each category is $250 plus a travel stipend and the opportunity to read their winning essay at our LFL National Conference banquet. All entries are based on life issues relative to the conference theme and Bible reference.

Hannah Nissing is the elementary category winner. She is a student from Immanuel Lutheran School in St. Charles, Missouri. She is the daughter of Matthew & Sarah Nissing. She has a long-standing history of being extremely active. Since kindergarten she has participated in volleyball, basketball, chorus, and the Scholar team. She is active in LWML and has taught Sunday school as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bridgeton, Missouri. Hannah has also been involved in various local pro-life activities. She enjoys playing piano and horseback riding in her free time. Hannah loves to write and has been blessed to have poems published by Creative Communication and the America Library of Poetry. Hannah’s winning essay is titled “Abortion: Destroying God’s Perfect Plan.”

Rebekah Anderson, the high school category winner, is from St. Paul Park, Minnesota, where she is home-schooled. She is the daughter of Mark and Laura Anderson and is a member of Ally Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. She leads a Bible study for eleven and twelve year old girls—mentoring them to love the Lord and live lives pleasing to Him. This past summer she spent five weeks on a mission trip to Costa Rica with Reign Ministries, where she got to do three things she loves: play soccer, speak Spanish, and share Jesus. Last Christmas, she took several hundred dollars of

her babysitting money and bought gift cards and tracts as a witnessing tool for people like cashiers, waiters, waitresses, and shoppers who looked stressed. Rebekah feels the Lord calling her to the mission field in Guatemala and plans to head there after high school. She has her own card business, Salvation Cards, which she started when she was twelve. She has a real heart for sharing the love of Jesus and is often sending cards or making cookies or bread to bring to neighbors, with a Bible verse and tract. She has volunteered in the infant nursery at her mother’s Bible study for the past six years and loves getting her baby-fix weekly! She just had her eighteenth birthday. Instead of having a birthday party, she hosted a ministry event where guests made gifts to take to others and share Jesus’ love. She requested no presents, asking guests to bring items for the ministry. Rebekah has purposely taken college classes at a public college so she can be a light! Last year in her speech class, she presented speeches on her best friend “Jesus,” how she feels the Lord calling her to the mission field and what missionaries do, and the biblical account of creation with someone opposing her on evolution. Rebekah’s winning essay is “Abortion … What Can We Do?”
