LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF QUILT SUNDAY
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) quilt dedication will be on
Sunday, April 21st. The sanctuary will be draped with quilts
sewn by the Grace Lutheran LWR quilters who meet on
Wednesdays from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. These quilts have been
“tied in faith”, “sent in Hope”, and “wrapped in love”. We will
deliver our quilts to Lutheran Social Services in Fargo the
week of May 7th which serves as a gathering location and then
they will be brought to St. Paul to the warehouse where they
will be distributed to areas of need.
Your participation will complement the dedication service
as we prepare to ship over 50 quilts to people in villages and
cities around the world who are in need of comfort of a warm
quilt and knowing the love of someone they do not know. In
addition to the LWR quilts, quilts are provided for local use,
baptisms and graduating seniors of the congregation.
Our LWR Quilters are: Willma Hanson, Linda Leitheiser,
Gale LaFerriere, Elaine Forsell, Lue Rawson, and
Darlene Nelson. We thank everyone who has donated material
and time spent at home cutting squares. We welcome other
volunteers to join us. Sewing skills are not needed. You may
come and go as your schedule permits.
A free will offering will be received on Sunday, April 21st
to support our ongoing quilting mission.

Dear Ministry and Mission Partners:
During my Lenten devotion time I read Book of Faith…Lenten Journey “Beyond
Question” by Eric Burtness, 2012 Augsburg Fortress Publishing. The author presents daily
readings for forty days asking good, searching, probing, and transformative questions.
Questions that call the reader and us to dig deep within ourselves to come up with purpose
filled responses.
Are you searching for something that you haven’t found yet? Is your heart longing and
restless? Spend time with God, spend time with the community of faith, and spend time in
God’s house. Spend quality time thinking, praying and reflecting.
As you read your Bible notice that Jesus doesn’t ask easy questions with easy answers.
Rather, he asks questions that can transform us and our lives. Are you willing to take your life,
your priorities, your reputation, and everything you have, and lay it all at the cross? Are you
willing to take up the cross each day and follow him?
Good questions for your consideration and conversation are: what or whom are you
looking for?, how are you to let yourself be found by God?, how are you to let yourself be
loved by God?, do you love Jesus?, and are you willing to give up everything for Jesus, who
gave up everything for you?
Empowering questions that challenge us, can change us, and draw us deeper in faith.
May your hearts, minds, and hands be stirred and guided.
See you in worship!

2013 EASTER MESSAGE
By
Bishop Mark Hanson
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Easter. It is about more than an open tomb. It is the good news of the risen Christ who opens lives.
Think about Jesus' friends after his death. Their lives were closed down by fear,
disappointment and confusion. The risen Christ appeared saying "peace be with you"
and opened their lives with a liberating word of reconciliation. In the same way Christ
opens your life with a baptismal promise that joins your life to his death and
resurrection. "You are my child. Nothing in all creation will separate you from my love."
Even now Christ is opening your life, your daily work, your passions and imagination.
Christ is opening your daily life into a holy calling that fills the world with love. At the
Lord’s table, Christ is opening you into a community that can bear even suffering with
confidence, and sorrow with hope.
The risen Christ opens the Scriptures — the full depth of God's promise made to Sarah
and Abraham now coming to life in the new creation. Even when everything else is
being stripped away, the risen Christ opens you to God's promised future.
Christ opens you to God's work of forgiveness and reconciliation. Jesus Christ, raised
from the dead, is opening this way of life for you.
In God's grace,
The Rev. Mark S. Hanson Presiding Bishop Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

DATE CHANGE FOR
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
It has come to our attention the first week in June works better for many of our
children for Vacation Bible School (VBS) so we will not schedule VBS for the second
week of June but instead it will be the first week of June. Parents, thank you for the
feedback. We appreciate your input. We are now busy preparing for June 3 – 7, 9 –
12 noon. You will soon see posters in the church advertising these dates along with
registration information and opportunities to volunteer to help kids learn about what the
apostle Paul was doing in Athens Greece.
Escape to Athens with Paul this year as our Holy Land Adventure VBS series
continues with the same frame work as last year but with a different story. Imagine
leaving a life of privilege and power to face painful imprisonment and angry mobs as
Paul did. He did this to spread the life – changing truth of God’s love. The story of
Paul will inspire kids to share the truth of God’s love.

Attention Members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
Members of a fraternal benefit society, like Thrivent Financial, share a significant
connection such as an ethnicity, occupation or religion. It is called a common bond and
today ours is Lutheran. With member approval, our common bond will be extended
from Lutheran to Christian. Through the extension Thrivent Financial will have an
opportunity to serve more people, meet more needs and strengthen more Christian
communities. We will be helping people be wise with money and inspiring them to live
generously. We will succeed when our members and their communities thrive. It will
make us stronger Lutherans to stand with other Christians and to join together in a
venture that is not only about faith but also about our stewardship and how we manage
our lives.
This is not a decision that Thrivent Financial leadership or the board of directors can
make (although they do recommend it). Thrivent Financial benefit members, generally
those age 16 and over who own a Thrivent Financial annuity or insurance product, can
vote on this issue. In order to change the Articles of Incorporation regarding the
extension of the common bond, 50% plus one of the member votes cast must be “yes”
votes.
Voting gives you a say in Thrivent Financial’s future. Voting is underway now and will
continue through April 30, 2013. You may vote in one of three ways:
1. online: Visit Thrivent.com/vote
2. by mail: Return your paper ballot
3. or by phone: Call 8555-363-2810 toll free.
Please vote and make your voice heard.
Respectfully submitted,
Willma L. Hanson,
Thrivent Financial Advocate for Grace Lutheran Church+

Our first annual “Hop into Spring” Dinner was a successful event. Our
primary goal was to create an evening of fun and fellowship as well
as good food and model an example of God’s work and our hands.
We wanted you, our own family, to have a part in making the
evening rewarding and enjoyable while working with all the other
wonderful people we call the Grace family. What a great way to build
unity and strength among our members and still be able to reach out
to the community to let others know about our willingness to share and welcome them to
Grace.
The secondary goal was to be successful enough in a financial way so we could make
contributions to important functions of our church. This did happen! You supported the “Hop
into Spring” Dinner with your presence at the meal, your help in preparing and serving the
meal, contributing to defray expenses, and buying tickets. Many of you worked long hours but
were still smiling when the evening was over. We think the frequent drawings of door prizes
added a lighter touch and feelings of goodwill. (You had to smile if you won a bikini in the
midst of the March snowstorm we were experiencing that night.) Carol Drysdal won the lovely
quilt.
True, the weather conditions did affect the financial outcome as we served only 184 dinners
when we were hoping to serve over 300. But when God closes one door, He opens another;
therefore we were able to make some food contributions to others, inside and outside the
church.
We raised $1,956.63 through the sale of tickets and donations prior to the dinner. Our
expenses were $845.82 thus a profit of $1,093.80 which will be divided among the Community
Vacation Bible School (June 3-7), some Youth activities and installation of the new sound
system.
We had fun from Day 1, back in January until the very end. We are so proud of and
appreciative of all the kind and generous people who supported us in every detail. We thank
you and we thank God for His blessings upon this event.
Respectfully,
Linda Leitheiser and Willma Hanson

SPRING FEVER
Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire.
Much to their relief she smiled and said, "Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper."
Still smiling, she waited for them to sit
down. Then she said: "First Question:
Which tire was flat?"

THE REVERAND
Francis Norton woke up Sunday
morning and realizing it was an
exceptionally beautiful and sunny early
spring day, decided he just had to play
golf. So... he told the Associate Pastor
that he was feeling sick and convinced
him to say Mass for him that day.
As soon as the Associate Pastor left the
room, Father Norton headed out of town
to a golf course about forty miles away.
This way he knew he wouldn't
accidentally meet anyone he knew from
his parish.
Setting up on the first tee, he was alone.
After all, it was Sunday morning and
everyone else was in church! At about
this time, Saint Peter leaned over to the
Lord while looking down from the
heavens and exclaimed, "You're not
going to let him get away with this, are
you?"
The Lord sighed, and said, "No, I guess not."
Just then Father Norton hit the ball and it shot straight towards the pin, dropping just short of it, rolled up and fell into the hole. It WAS A 420 YARD HOLE IN ONE!
St. Peter was astonished. He looked at the Lord and asked, "Why did you let him do that?"
The Lord smiled and replied, "Who's he going to tell?

A SPRINGTIME JOKE
Two robins were sitting in a tree. "I'm
really hungry", said the first one. "Me,
too," said the second. "Let's fly down
and find some lunch." They flew to the
ground and found a nice plot of plowed
ground full of worms. They ate and ate
and ate and ate until they could eat no
more. "I'm so full I don't think I can fly
back up to the tree", said the first robin.
"Me, either. Let's just lay here and bask
in the warm sun", said the second.
They plopped down, basking in the sun.
No sooner than they had fallen asleep, a
big fat tomcat sneaked up and gobbled
them up. As he sat washing his face
after his meal, he thought, "I just love
baskin' robins."
