Yarn: nammi, hand-‐dyed Icelandic wool -‐ 100g/3.75 oz (450m/ 492 yards) -‐ available in the Knitting Iceland Etsyshop. Needles: 4mm (US6) -‐ 60-‐80 cm (24-‐32 inch) circular needles are very nice for this project Gauge: Not important (yay!) Other: Darning needle
The pattern is simple. It‘s 6 stitches wide and 4 rows high. The shawl has a garter stitch border, and within the borders the pattern is repeated according to the diagram. You can either use the pattern in words or the diagram below. The pattern can be used in many other types of garments!
Cast on 60 stitches loosely. You can make the shawl wider as long as you keep the stitch count dividable by 6.
The first 12 rows – knit all stitches – this creates a garter stitch base. Start knitting according to the pattern. Remember to knit the first and last 3 stitches of each row. Repeat the pattern 9 times, or until you get tired of knitting(!). Finish off like you started by knitting all stitches in 12 rows – ending with a loose cast off.
The pattern in words: Row 1 (RS) : K3, *yo, S2KP2, yo, k3* repeat between asterisks until 3 stitches remain, K3. Row 2 (WS): K3, P54, K3 Row 3 (RS): K3, * K3, yo, S2KP2, yo* repeat between asterisks until 3 stitches remain, K3 Row 4 (WS): K3, P54, K3
