SITE PLAN

STATEMENT“Explode” is my concept for this project. After reading the program of this project. I have realized that this is a huge project contents 3 large functional spaces which are Gallery, Lecture Hall and Library. Even though these three spaces is in one project, it serves difference purposes. Therefore, instead of creating a huge mass of these 3 spaces connected together, I explode them away from each other, but also somehow providing the visitors with a convenient way to move from 1 space to another. I have recognized that the site of this project has many potential of attention since it locates right in the middle of the area. There are side walkssurrounding the site which will provide potential access as well as making itself an active space. After visiting this site at UCSD campus, I perceived that the amount of student move back and forth equally from all 4 directions. Taking advantage of this, I pulled the Lecture Hall out by itself (since it owns the biggest area, this also creates the ballance between the masses), creating the this outdoor patio bringing access from the Southeast and Northeast. Also, I bring the Library up to second floor, this providing access from the East and Southeast. By doing this, students and visitors do not have to walk a long way around to reach the main access to the building. Seeing the advantage of the shade that the Library creates and the slight slope that the landscape provides, I used that space under the Library to build the Amphitheater to serve for any outdoor activities, learning, ect. And also, a patio with tables so people can chill, or do homework, or having lunch.I tried to keep most of the grass area because I love green, and also people can actually sit around on the grass area and enjoy the sun.The Library is a study area, so I want to bring as much sunlight in as possible, so I invest these huge glass curving wall, also natural light can come in through the roof structure too. For the Lecture Hall and the Gallery, I limited the natural light access into theinterior because of its function. I do bring a little light in from the roof for the Lecture Hall. For the Gallery, I bring a little of light in by the glass wall covered with spacing vertical wood siding, but I also have a thin wall inside right behind to limit the sun, alsoused for exhibition purpose. The main access is from the Northeast where the stair located. I want to invest this stair as a painted stair with bright colors themes from Dr. Seuss animations.

MATERIAL I used the combination of wood siding and concrete panel for this project(As shown in the rendering pictures. The whole Library is covered in teak wood, also the two spaces of the two sides of the Lectural Hall is also cover with wood. The interior wall of the Lecture Hall is cover with spacing wood siding artistically. Also, the amphitheater stage is also flooring by sustainable wood. The rest is concrete.

Restroom Issue:There is no restroom for the Library and the LectureHall in the program. It is something I keep in mind sothat I work out my floor plan in able to give the most easy and convenient access to the restroom for everyone within the building area.
