    acrossthecountrydeterminetheposi9onsandstrategiesofastateLa9noorganiza9on.

    TheLULACConven9onisalsowellaPendedbymajorcorpora9onswhorecognizetheimportanceofreaching

    outtostateLa9noleadersandinfluen9alcommunitymembersdirectly.Thereareopportuni9estosponsor

    UnitedStateshaveprediabetes.eoplewithprediabetesarelikelytodeveloptype2diabeteswithin10years,

    unless theytakestepsto prevent or delay the disease.Diabetesis a leading causeof heart disease,stroke,

    blindness,kidneydiseaseandnervedisease.

    Nearly12% of Hispanicshave diabetes,compared to 7.1% of nonHispanic whites. This presenta9on will

    discusstheprevalenceofdiabetesintheHispanic communityandwillgiveinforma9onabout riskfactorsand

    waystopreventordelaytheonsetoftype2diabetes.

    Lifestylechangessuchasea9nghealthier,increasingphysicalac9vityandlosingamodestamountofweight

    whattheycandotomeetLa9noseduca9onneedssincetheyaretheleasteducatedofallmajorethnic

    groups.

    Since200,theYMCABlackAchieversprogrambecametheYMCABlackandLa9noAchieversprogram.

    ThismovehelpedexpandingtheYMCAeduca9onalservicestotheLa9nocommunityintheGreaterCincinna9

    andNorthernKentuckyarea.Overthepastfouryears,theYMCABlackandLa9noAchievers,hashelped

    overahundredLa9nostudentsprovidingthemwithcollegereadiness,tutoring/mentoring,andleadership

    developmentprogramssotheycansucceedintheiracademicandprofessionaljourney.

    Session2:DACA:NickTorresSinceJune15,2012,thousandsofimmigrantyouthacrossthecountryhaveappliedforDACA.Thispresenta9on

    willexploretheimpactsoftheprocesstodate,highligh9ngbothsuccessesandchallengesfacedbythe

    communityduringitsimplementa9on.Apar9cularfocuswillbeplacedondiscussingtheimplica9onsforstate

    andlocalpolicyandhowtheyinteractwiththenewfederalprogram.
