I guess winter finally got us but all that means is spring is getting closer. Jan and I just spent two weeks in Minnesota, boy was that dumb. We had temperatures that got as low as -15 and that is without the wind chill figured into it. The first time it snowed we got about 6 inches of light and fluffy stuff. That was kind of a fun snow. The second time was the last blizzard they had. There was only about 6 inches of snow but the wind was blowing at about 45 mph. The roads were completely iced and they issued blizzard warnings. OH and of course that was the day we had to leave and head home. I drove about four hours in these conditions. When we got south of Minneapolis the wind got real bad and the roads were ice. After I hit four bad areas of complete white out at 2:00 in the afternoon, I decided to find a room and stay overnight. The next morning the weather was a little better, it was cold (the high was 2 degrees) but the wind was much lower so all we had to deal with was the icy roads from north Iowa to the southern border of Iowa. You may ask why Minnesota in the winter, well I am still working on that. It does make you appreciate Tennessee weath-er when you get back.

How about a little reminder about the Operations Meeting and Winter Event that is coming up on February 8, 2020. The address for the event is James E. Ward Agricultural and Com-munity Center 945 Baddour Parkway, Lebanon TN 37087. The meeting should not take too long but we do have some things to talk about. Be sure to bring your questions to the meet-ing we want to know if you have any issue to discuss. We will talk about some of things we want to do this year and it is a good time to share ideas with other chapters.

The winter event will follow a light lunch furnished by the district. During the winter event there will be time to discuss summer plans with other members. Play some games for priz-es. Which leads me to a request; each chapter director please bring with you one very nice item that can be used for a game prize. If each chapter furnishes one nice prize we should

have enough for the games and for everyone to have a lot of fun. We will play the games for tickets and have the drawing at the end of the day. We will have a 50/25/25 drawing. Sell tickets thru the day and draw at the end of the day. There will be a table decorating contest the rules are on the web site the tables will be rectangle and are eight foot long. We will have a mascot contest and the scrap book contest. All the rules are on the web site, check them out. Hope to see everyone at winter event; let’s try to make this a lot of fun so we can keep it going in the future.

Here is a little about Spring Fling. If anyone has had a problem reserving a room at the Evergreen Smoky Mountain Lodge I think we have it fixed. You can call the latest number I put out 865-453-1823 and they will make your reservation. You can also go to the web site evergreenconvention.com or evergreenlodgepi-geonforge.com and make your reservation. The web site was saying the hotel was full when you tied to use it but we have fixed that and it should work now. Be sure to mention GWRRA when you call. I would say calling would be your best bet to make a reservation. As we all know the facility has been sold and the staff is all new with the exception of Brian Kimball, he is the one that was so much help in the convention cen-ter. He has also been a great deal of help this year all ready. If you have any trouble with your registration please call me and let me know, that is the only way we can fix it. Don’t forget to make your reservation for the after closing show at The Grand Majestic Theater for the “Soul of Motown” I have seen the show and it is very good and the food is not bad either. So let’s make sure we have more at Spring Fling from in District than from out of District.

Just want to remind all the chapter directors to choose their Chapter Couple for 2020. I

know many chapters have individual members who are not couples but participate with the

chapter activities, they need to be recognized also. GWRRA has made it very easy to accom-

plish this with the Individual of The Year packet that includes a medallion, certificate and

name tag. We should recognize these individuals as well as your Couple of the Year each

year and let them know how much you appreciate their devotion to the chapter. Many posi-

tions are available within your chapter so you can see how each couple or individual fits in

best, lots of talent out there if just given a chance. Refer to your Officers handbook for

the many chapter positions. Look forward to seeing everyone at the Ops meeting/winter

event, bring your chapter couples and Individual with you.

Winter Event and Spring Fling

If you haven’t made your plans to attend Winter Event and Spring Fling I have one question. What are you waiting on? You need to be making your motel reservations, sending in your registration and making your plans now. How may of you hate being rushed, that’s a good reason to get these things done now. I know some of you like waiting till the last minute to make plans, you just hope there are rooms left at the place you want to stay. You enjoy the pressure of those last-minute decisions. You thrive under pressure; it makes you feel like you did when you were under ridiculous deadlines at work. You like the challenge of find-ing rooms at the last minute, the challenge of getting time off work, the challenge of getting the registration forms in at the last second, the challenge of quickly putting together a skit for the talent show and waiting till the night before you leave to figure out what you need to take. You like stopping at the store on the way be-cause you didn’t take the time to plan so you buy your 18th set of fingernail clippers because this is not the first time you forgot. Your collection of 5 shirts per rally is because you needed something to wear when you got there. If all these examples describe you to a tee, then go ahead, wait on getting ready for these events. The last thing I want to do is take away your fun of the adrenalin rush you look forward to by waiting till the last minute. But I bet most of you really don’t like it when you end up doing that. So, take 15 minutes a day for the next few days to make your reservations, fill out and send your registration and call some chapter members and brainstorm about what you are going to do for the Talent Show. When you call those members ask them if they have made their reservations or sent in their registrations. If they haven’t ask them if they are one of those people that like doing all the things mentioned above. You see, I know that not everyone reads the arti-cles, they just look at the pictures. So, if you are one of those that read the entire article you might be able to help someone out, remind them of some of these examples that most people try to avoid. Welcome to the new year, 2020! We hope everyone is starting the year off healthy and happy.

With a new year, that means that many things will need to be taken care of . CPR training and refresher courses are one of those things. I hope that everyone will take the time to check your CPR card and make sure that your certification is up to date. As you know, your card should be updated every two years with a refresher course. If your card expires this year, please get with your chapter director and request them to make arrange-ments for a class in your area. If there are not enough participants in your chapter, you might get together with another chapter that is in the same area as you for a combined class.

We will be holding a class at Spring Fling again this year. If you would like to take your class there, please let us know. The class will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020. We hope to see a great turnout for Spring Fling this year.

Looking forward to riding season! Remember, if your chapter has an AED and carries it with you on your rides, please check your batteries and supplies to make sure it is ready for an emergency.

Looking forward in seeing everyone at the Operations Meeting on February 8th in beautiful Lebanon. Roger and I have put together some very informative information for our members. We plan to discuss the levels pro-gram including the N7 form, the N9 form, the N10 form, N33 form and the N33A form. What are all these forms? Come to the OPS Meeting and we will tell you. We will discuss the information needed to stay updated in the data base for any training or classes you have taken. Roger will explain what the quarterly report is about and rides and newsletters. We plan to inform you on how to look up your own information in the Rider Educa-tion Data Base (MY RE). We will provide each chapter with a current print out on training or recertification each member needs to keep current in the data base. We also plan to cover the new position for Chapter Skills Enhancement Advisor Information. We have two ARC/TRC training classes set to go at this time and working to add some more. We have a con-firmed date of April 11 for an ARC/TRC class in Gallatin. This will be a range only class. If you have previously completed the full classroom and course you are eligible to take this class. We also have an ARC/TRC class set up in Maryville on May 30 at the Blount County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility. This class will be classroom and course. We are working on classes to be held in Morristown and Kingsport and we would like to have clas-ses in West Tennessee.
