Target Audience

My target audience will be anyone aged between 16-30 due to the fact this is the age when people become interested in learning an instrument and a lot of people go off classic pop and look into another area of music, and I believe that my magazine will help them get into alternative rock.

Editorial Mission Statement

With this magazine I wish to inform people into what’s new and coming in the present time, and what bands to look out for. This can also give you bragging rights if a band comes popular before anybody even knew them. I want alternative rock to evolve and become the most popular genre of music with a lot of the songs featuring on BBC radio.

Ideas for from cover

For my front cover I'm deciding to go for 2 colours that will go with the front cover photo of my magazine front cover like vibe. I will also have competitions on every magazine to encourage more buyers and enabling the magazine to build a reputation. The text will always be bold and the more important stories will be larger obviously to lure the customers in with the big names. I will try and get photos of the band I am advertising.

Ideas for a double page article

For my double page article I will include the main story the magazine advertises on the front cover. For example, if the front cover says that the magazine says that we have an exclusive interview with The Black Keys, the interview will be on the double page. The way I wish to format the double page interview is to have a large powerful photo much larger that the text near. Here are a few examples:

Typical reader profile

A young male aged around 15-17, searching for something to spend his spare time doing during his GCSE’s or A levels. Something quick, enjoyable, easy and not money consuming. He will be lured in by the free pick and the short weekly lesson’s. He also enjoys alternative and most rock types but doesn’t have the time to know about all these new bands, but this magazine will not only help him begin playing the guitar but will also keep him in touch with the world of alternative rock. He will be studying academic subjects only leaving a short hour before his bed time because of homework and revision and in 2 weeks of playing 1 hour a day he will have an idea of how to play the guitar

USP (Unique Selling Point)The USP for my magazine will be that every magazine published will come with a guitar pick, varying types e.g. Hard, Soft, Flimsy etc. hopefully this will encourage people to go out and buy a guitar and learn. The guitar picks can also be collectable meaning come can become rare and be sold for a lot of money. The first magazine will come with some surgical spirit and cotton wool because it can be tough starting to play guitar as your fingers become very saw. I will also have a link with the website http://www.ultimate-guitar.com which is a tabs website which people can easily go onto to learn songs they enjoy. This will help my magazine sell more copy’s due to ultimate-guitar being the leading tabs websites with over 800,000 songs featuring on the website.

Planned Content

Here are just a few of the ideas I would like to incorporate into the content of my magazine:- Latest upcoming alternative rock bands- Interview with a popular current alternative band- Obviously a guitar pick of the current

popular band- The link to the “ultimate-tabs” and song

suggestions- Good started guitars

My Brand Identity

My brand will encourage creativity as it will encourage people to start playing the guitar. It will also be an informative magazine as it will be suggesting songs to learn for beginners (there will also be a section for more advanced players). It will also be known to be value for money as you don’t have to waste money on guitar picks.
