    4. Knowledge and understanding of the World.In this area of learning, children are developingthe crucial knowledge, skills and understandingthat help them to make sense of the world. Thisforms a foundation for later work in science,design and technology, history,geography andinformation and technology.

    5. Creative and Physical development.Creativity is fundamental to successful learning.Being creative enables children to makeconnections between one area of learning andanother and to so extend their understanding.Art ,music, dance, role play and imaginativeplay is used to enhance this area.Physicaldevelopment in the foundation stage is aboutimproving skills of coordination, control,manipulation and movement. It also helpschildren gain condence in what they do andenables them to feel the positive benets of

    being healthy and active.This part of ourcurriculum ensures that the children develop asense of well-being.

    6. Spiritual development.Little Scholars uses the Bible as its basis toimpart Christian values to the young children toenable them grow up to love and serve God.

    All children who enter Little Scholars Academyat two or three years of age follow the BritishFoundation Stage until the end of Year 1 at theage of 6 years.The foundation Stage is a distinctphase of Education that prepares young childrento move to Key Stage 1 of the British National

    Curriculum or the Kenyan 8-4-4 curriculum.We at Little Scholars aim at providing aneffective education. The teachers understandand implement a relevant curriculum. We areaware that children develop rapidly during earlyyears - physically, intellectually, emotionally,socially and Spiritually.

    We ensure that all children feel included,secured and valued. Parents and teachers worktogether in an atmosphere of mutual respectwithin which the children can have security and

    condence.

    The foundation Curriculum ensures that eachchild develops his or her skills in the followingareas,

    aspects of their lives and gives them the bestopportunity for success in all areas of learning.At little Scholars, we provide the experiencesand support to enable children to develop apositive sense of themselves.

    2. Communication, Language and Literacy.This area of learning includes communication,

    speaking and listening in different situationsand for different purposes, being read to a widerange of books, reading simple texts andwriting for a variety of purposes. Children talkand communicate in a widening range ofsituations, responding to adults and each other,practicing a range of vocabulary and communica-tion skills they use and listening carefully.3. Mathematical development.This area of learning includes counting, sorting,matching, seeking patterns, making connections,recognizing relationships and working with

    numbers, shapes, space and measures. Theseis developed through stories, songs, gamesand imaginative play, so that children enjoyexperimenting with numbers. children becomecondent and competent in learning and usingkey skills.

    Children are encouraged to feel that they arevalued members of the class and School commu-nity so that they develop strong self-image andsense of self esteem. Positive learning attitudestowards learning and condence in ones abilityto be a successful learner are promoted.Social skills are developed enabling them to learn

    how to cooperate with,work harmoniously along-side and listen to each other. Attention skills,persistence and the capacity to concentrate ontheir own play, classroom tasks and groupactivities are built over time Pupils are taughthow to be competent in communication skills,together with having the condence, opportu-nity, encouragement, support and disposition touse them.

    The Curriculum has set out Learning objectivesfor each area of the curriculum and levels ofAttainments that pupils are expected to achieveat the end of each key stage. Using this guid-ance, our teachers are able to ensure that theirpupils are equipped with the Knowledge, skillsand understanding necessary to establish a solidfoundation on which to build throughout theirfuture school years and beyond.

    Numeracy: Pupils are equipped with uniquelypowerful set of tools to understand andchange the world. These tool include logicalreasoning,problem solving skills and the ability tothink in abstract ways.

    Science: Science stimulates and excites pupilscuriosity about phenomena and events in the

    world around them. It satises this curiosity withknowledge.

    Assessments and ReportingPupils Progress is monitored through a process ofcontinual teacher assessment. Teachers providea report that is shared with parents.Key StageExaminations are done at the end of Year 2 andYear 6.

    BY the End of Year 6 (at the age of 11 years),pupils are ready to start Secondary School.
