LOW BUDGET VS HIGH BUDGET FILMS

BY: JAMES EAGLE

THIS IS ENGLAND (SMALL BUDGET)

The film was produced by Film 4 productions which is owned by Channel Four Television Corporation.

The second producer was Warp Films a small independent production company based in Sheffield where the film is set. They are known for making small budget films

GRAN TORINO (BIG BUDGET)

Gran Torino was produced by Village Roadshow pictures which is a large American production company based in Hollywood. They are known for making big budget films.

Malpaso Productions also produced Grand Torino. Which is Clint Eastwood’s production company and has produced nearly all films staring him.

FILM BUDGETS

COMPARISON OF THE TWO FILMS

Gran Torino appeals to people who enjoy action films and drama generally working class and aged between 20 – 50.

This Is England appeals to people who enjoy drama films with historical context (80’s). Many people who lived through the 80’s would have an interest in the film.

Whilst Gran Torino did far better in terms of box office sales. I think that This Is England is the most successful due to the very small production companies and low budget which makes the film more impressive.

This Is England won : Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film at the 2007 British Academy Film Awards.
