THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR PARISH. Weekly Tithing Collections for March 19th: $7,520.00

THE SHEPHERD’S VOICE As stunning as this Sunday’s miracle is: sight for a man who had never seen, illumina-tion brought about from a paste Jesus concoct-ed and a washing that prefigured baptism, it is obvious that John wants us to reflect on the enlightenment that came from the man’s en-counters with Jesus and his controversies with the Jewish leaders. We see the man’s understanding grow from calling the miracle worker a man called Jesus to recognizing him as holy, a man of God, a prophet, and, with Jesus’ help, as Son of man, and ultimately Lord. This is reminis-cent of the Samaritan woman who sensed Je-sus might be even greater than Jacob, a proph-et, perhaps even the Christ, and whose towns-people proclaimed him “the Savior of the world.” The presence of water (Jacob’s well, the pool at Siloam, the man’s washing) and the theme of light/sight tell us both characters rep-resent the baptized, those who, having encoun-tered Jesus Christ, grow in their perception of who he is, and who they have become because the Christ has come into their lives. Jesus works the same way with us throughout our lives, leading us deeper and deeper into the mysteries and the truths of our faith. Are we seeking the truth; are we open to his guidance; are we growing in Christ?

In the Good Shepherd, Father Tom Leach
