Catholic Schools Week January 31st - February 7th

Church in Central America and Eastern Europe collection will be taken next weekend - February 6th and 7th. For those living in Central and Eastern Europe, rebuilding in the wake of 70 years of Soviet rule is a constant struggle. Your support helps provide grants for the projects to restore the Church and build the future in these areas.

World Day for Consecrated Life: Please pray for the local Benedictine sisters in service to St. Joseph School, St. Marys hospital, SD Women’s Prison, parish and community life and all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life and thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God's gift of their vocation. Sister Mona

Grateful to Bishop Gruss for being our shepherd, and being here Sunday for the Confirmation of our youth and adults. It is so good to see their growth in faith, hope, and love. Thanks to catechists Josie Tardiff, John and Kit Schmidt, and Rose Anderson, for working with our youth and families. Come Holy Spirit!

For the renewal of our facilities: In the past months, through the efforts of our parish council, finance/building council, and the research of a Task Force, we have assembled some options and rough cost estimates. Some of our stairways and doors need to be safer. We can't get parts anymore for the old church boiler and air handlers. We need 3 new classrooms for our Sunday faith formation. After more review by building council, we will begin working with the diocesan building commission. We will present some of them soon, and have an open house to help in your review and discernment and moving forward.

Support St. Joseph School this week in prayer, and at the Saturday 6 February Carnival.

The bishops—successors of the apostles Catechism of the Catholic Church 861 “In order that the mission entrusted to them might be continued after their death, [the apostles] consigned, by will and testament, as it were, to their immediate collaborators the duty of completing and consolidating the work they had begun, urging them to tend to the whole flock, in which the Holy Spirit had appointed them to shepherd the Church of God. They accordingly designated such men and then made the ruling that likewise on their death other proven men should take over their ministry.”

862 “Just as the office which the Lord confided to Peter alone, as first of the apostles, destined to be transmitted to his successors, is a permanent one, so also endures the office, which the apostles received, of shepherding the Church, a charge destined to be exercised without interruption by the sacred order of bishops.” Hence the Church teaches that “the bishops have by divine institu-tion taken the place of the apostles as pastors of the Church, in such wise that whoever listens to them is listening to Christ and whoever despises them despises Christ and him who sent Christ.”
