The middle school conferences will be student led and the high school conferences will be a time to complete course registration for the 2019- 2020 school year. This is for students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11. We do request that parents and students attend high school conferences together to ensure everyone is on the same page with scheduling. Your student’s advisor should have been in contact with you to set up a time to meet. Staff members will be available in between registration conferences if you need to speak with them about your student’s academic progress. They will post their scheduled conference times outside their classrooms. We look forward to seeing you next week. Louisville Public School will be participating in the Greater Omaha Chamber "CareeRockit" on Wednesday, February 11, 2019!! We are VERY excited to announce that Roloff Construction will be our host employer for Careerockit at Louisville Public School!! Students in grades 9-12 who are interested in learning more about engineering, architecture, and construction from Roloff Construction are welcome to attend this great opportunity!! Mrs. Kara Habrock, who serves on our Louisville Public School Board of Education, is also the President and CEO of Roloff Construction. Mrs. Habrock and team will be educating students on engineering, architecture, and construction pathways. We are very fortunate and appreciate their time and effort to discuss these career options to our students! What is "CareeRockit"? ~ "CareeRockit" is an initiative by the Greater Omaha Chamber. This initiative provides opportunity for community partners to connect with students and young adults to learn and gain knowledge about growing career options. GeographyBeeLouisville's National Geographic Bee took place on Wednesday, January 23rd. Two qualifying students from each grade, grades 4th through 8th, participated in the Bee. The qualifying contestants Aubrey Barry and Isaac Clements were from 4th grade, Will Caswell and Coltyn Larson from 5th grade, James Fosmer and Easton Fiala from 6th grade, Marissa Staben and Niklas Sorensen from 7th grade, and Katie Kerlik and Chase Savage from 8th grade. The competition lasted through several rounds until a third place was determined and the final two went to the championship round. The final results were Niklas Sorensen, 3rd place, Chase Savage, 2nd place, and Marissa Staben, 1st place. Marissa Staben took the online state qualifying test towards the end of January. We will find out later this spring whether Marissa has made it to the next level of competition. GuidanceInformationOn Monday February 4th LPS will be holding a College Fair in the commons running in conjunction with Parent Teacher Conference. Local colleges as well as Military branches will be in attendance to give you a look into their programs. We are planning for them to begin at 4:30 and continue until 8:00. Some reps might need to leave a little early. Please contact Mr. Finkey with any questions. SpeechTeamNewsThe speech team had a very successful January after missing a meet due to weather. The team won the Columbus Scotus Shamrock Invite on January 19th, defeating Shelby Rising City by 6 points. Every student medaled for Louisville this day in 15 entries. On January 26th, the school hosted the third annual Louisville Speech Invite, and it was the largest yet with 17 schools. The team won the meet by 26 points, and 18 of the total 25 entries were in finals. The following individuals represented Louisville during awards at those two meets (multiple placings in parentheses): Peyton Banks (5), Jade Biesterfeld (3), Julian Covington (2), Annika Covington, Haleigh Diltz, Fabian Fassl, Diana Geditz, Sophie Habrock (3), Meagan Hay (4), Chloe Hibler, William Jones, McKenna Jones (2), Parker Manley (2), Casey Mason (3), Madison Nolte, Reiley Reed, Sarah Riha (2), Leandra Rodriguez (2), Michael Rupp (4), Drake Sayre (2), and Max Yarnell (2). The team has a busy February ahead including a trip to Crete, two trips to David City, and the conference meet at Weeping Water. ActivitiesDirectorReport~Mr.GeiseIt's hard to believe that February is here and the winter seasons are winding down. Where has the time gone? Our kids are working hard and doing great! The wrestling team competed in another successful Louisville Invite and wrestled well in a very tough field of competition. The district meet is in Battle Creek on February 8th and 9th. We’re looking forward to a strong finish to the season. The basketball teams started ECNC tournament action this week. The girls are playing for a conference championship and have continued to be ranked throughout the season. Both teams are working hard, preparing for district competition at Weeping Water. Times have not been released. Best of luck to the basketball teams! The speech team is off to a great start as well. They hosted their 3rd Annual Louisville Speech Meet on January 26th and won the team championship. The meet was excellent and the students competed well. ECNC will be held February 20th in Weeping Water and Districts will be held on March 11th in David City. Best of luck to the students and coaches. The cheer and dance team members are big supporters

SkillsUSAInformationThe next SkillsUSA blood drive will be Wednesday February, 27th on the bloodmobile, in front of the high school entrance. The blood drive will run from 10am till 4pm. Please stop into the high school office to setup a time to donate or contact Carsen Knott at [email protected] to schedule a time.

Students in the SkillsUSA class have completed their OSHA, (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 10-hour safety training. Students completed online training in the areas of construction, medical and general safety. Students completed the safety training though Career Safe Online. The goal of Career Safe Online is to advance and enhance OSHA’s outreach by providing every young worker with workplace safety training prior to taking their first job. The OSHA 10-hour safety training is a nationally recognized certification that students can put on a

resume and show employers that they understand workplace safety.

The middle school East SkillsUSA conference will be held in Omaha. Students are able to compete in technical team problem solving, quiz bowl, applied math test, metric 500 racers and balsa wood bridge design and mouse trap racers & job skills demonstration. The SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference will be held in Grand Island at Fonner Park & the Heartland Events Center. The deadline to register and pay is Wednesday February, 13th. Registration cost is $80. Hotel room costs will be calculated later. Payments can be cash or check made to Louisville SkillsUSA.
