The May General Meeting will be

held on Wednesday, May 30th at 7:00

P.M.; the Executive Committee will

meet at 6:00 P.M..

Since our last meeting the Ward

World Championship in Ocean City,

Maryland. At this competition, the

LWCCG was well represented on the

Podium. Special congratulations goes

to John Scallan who won Best of

Show World Pairs and Dickie Autin

who won Over All Best of Show in

Novice; and to all members who re-

ceived awards at the Festival.

At this show, we passed out 50

Rules Booklets and 1,000 fliers adver-

tising our Festival. Several carvers

and venders have committed to attend

our Festival.

We have also attended several

other Events, Festivals advertising our

show, more information will be pro-

vided at our meeting.

I was also contacted by Mr. Gary

Lipham, who wants to inform our

members that on August 25th there

will be an Antique Collectors swap

meet at the Baton Rouge Blue Bonnet

Nature Center. This event will be

dedicated to Mr. Charles Frank and his

wife Jean. They will also provide a

table at this event for the use of

LWCCG to advertise our Festival.&

Show and sell modern carvings.

If anyone wants to attend, please

2835. There will also be flyers on this

swap meet available in the near future.

Don’t forget Show & Tell and door

prizes for the meeting.

SPECIAL DOOR PRIZES

AT THE MAY MEETING

We are looking forward to seeing

Mrs. Charles Frank at the meeting

this month. Mrs. Frank has do-

nated some large pieces of carving

wood and also some old club items

which we will be giving away as

door prizes .

Dickie Autin is presented his award for Over All

Best of Show in Novice for his Spoon Bill at the

Ward Foundation Festival.

MINUTES FOR THE GENERAL

MEETING :

A representative from the Rotary

Club called and asked Richard to

speak at one of their meetings.

Club Directory: Richard asked

Lydia Foght about the directory she

is working on. Lydia said she will

call each person to verify informa-

tion.

THERE WILL BE NO MEETING

FOR APRIL, MANY MEMBERS

WILL BE ATTENDING THE

WARD SHOW IN MARYLAND.

Catering for Our Festival: Rob

Howell, owner of Sunrise on Second

Street Café has agreed to furnish

food for the Festival. He will offer

several choice dishes, sandwiches,

etc. as well as beverages.

Festival Chairman: Chris Towns,

festival chairman, said we need to

find ways to make our competitors,

vendors and visitors feed more wel-

come. Someone suggested greeting

bags composed of things New Or-

leans is know for. A letter will be

composed for donations. Chris

Weaver said Louisiana Fish Fry Co.

might donate some items.

Judging Committee: Alan

Kancher will take the lead with the

Judging Committee.

Chris Weaver said Times Picayune

would be a good place for our Festi-

val advertising. Also mentioned was

Collecting magazines, Hunting &

Fishing and Antique Decoys.

Bi-Centennial Fair: Will be in

May, carvers are needed to display

and demonstrate.

LWCCG Festival:

Joan Bonner said she needs help on

Saturday morning for the Art Com-

petition. She will need 3 judges for

each of 3 categories, including 10

people to help with co-ordination .

John Scallan met at the Round Table

with 14 Scout Masters who were

very interested and excited about

having a carving competition for the

scouts. Each troop would carve the

same wildlife creation with a Best of

Show 1st-$100, 2nd-$50, and 3rd-

$25. Stipulation would be given to

the Troop that carvers are willing to

help get them started for 1 hour for

each troop. 14 troops would require

14 hours. Troops would be asked to

come in uniforms for the Festival. In

September LWCCG members would

help scouts to earn their wood carv-

ing merit badge. We would need 4-6

weeks notice.

Lloyd Ferrier said he carves

shrimp boats, but will be glad to help

with the boy scouts.

Membership: John Scallan re-

ported that we have 62 paid mem-

bers and 96 members not yet paid.

The total membership is 158.

Show & tell: Jim Dennison, a guest

of Mr. Fred Guidry, showed his first

oil painting of his wedding. He also

had a beautiful charcoal portrait of

his two children.

Chris Weaver showed a nice Pintail

he carved from a piece of wood he

purchased at last year’s show. He

chip carved it and painted it with

oils.

Mr. Fred Guidry showed us a

Meacham Mallard carved by Don-

ald Meacham. He told us that Mr.

Meacham would be holding a carv-

ing class at Hornville High School

where he would be teaching several

adults with their children.

Being no further business, a motion

was made and seconded to adjourn

the meeting at 8:25 P.M.
