[ In the book Journal d’une vie de famille (Journal of a family life), 2002, by Charles-Émile Bolduc,
page 38 mentions "According to Paul Bolduc, a resident of Indiana and author of a historical note on the
Bolduc House in Missouri, it is to Louis Bolduc, born 24 December 1754 at Saint-Joachim-de-
Montmorency, son of Paul and grandson of Louis, that we need to attribute the origin of the famous
House." But the author gives no further references.
In the book Louis Bolduc, his Family and his House, 2002, by Carl J. Ekberg, page 2 mentions "Our
Louis Bolduc was born ca. 1739, the fifth child of Zacharie Bolduc and Jeanne Meunier", with a note 3.
Note 3 states "Concerning Bolduc’s family, see Appendix 1 below. For some reason the record of his
birth has not been found in his native parish of St. Joachim, but the names of his parents (Zacharie and
Jeanne Meunier) are known from various sacramental and civil records in Ste. Genevieve. His burial
record (Burials, Book 2:103, Ste. Genevieve Parish Records) states that he was about seventy years old
when he died in 1815, and the Spanish census of 1787 (copy archives of the Missouri Historical Society,
St. Louis, Missouri) give Louis’ age as forty-eight years. The census is probably more reliable, which
would mean that Louis was born ca. 1739." Appendix 1, on page 149, indicates as the children of
Zacharie Bolduc and Jeanne Meunier that the fifth child is a Louis, and the sixth a Louis-Amable,
baptized 25 August 1740, with a note 2 which states "This is clearly a different person than his brother,
Louis Bolduc of Ste. Genevieve. The latter was evidently born during the four-year interval between the
births of Marie and of Louis-Amable." Back to Appendix 1, under Louis Bolduc, the book indicates "b.
Canada about 1739 (per 1787 census of Ste. Genevieve); interred in Ste. Genevieve March 4, 1815, aged
about 70". The book then mentions that his first marriage was to Agathe Govreau in Ste. Genevieve on
28 January 1765, and second to Marie Courtois on 28 January 1775.
The following acts below illustrate well that Louis-Amable Bolduc is not the one who settled on the
Mississippi in Sainte-Geneviève. He died and was buried in Saint-Joachim in 1805, as well as his wife
after him in 1817, where he’s referred to as her deceased husband and farmer (cultivateur). Louis-
Amable only married once. Of note is the fact that he is always referred to as "Amable" Bolduc, as
opposed to Louis-Amable, presumably not to confuse him with a "Louis" Bolduc, more than likely a
brother of his, of which unfortunately no records exists in Québec.]
