Using adjectives to describe people and things

Exploring various types of adjectives and their uses:

I. Quantitative Adjectives: special “non-specific” adjectives that are used to describe the quantity of things we don’t or can’t count in terms of a specific number

A. Mucho = a lot, much, many

B. ¿Cuánto? = how much / how many

Gramática:

• Regla: like all adjs. (used to describe a noun) – these two adjs. agree in number & gender with the noun (go before the noun)

• Endings for adjectives:

Mas. Fem.Sing.: o aPlural: os as

Ejemplos y usos:

I. Mucho – a lot, much, many

Ej: (tarea) Tengo mucha tarea.

Ej: (dinero) Quiero mucho dinero.

Ej: (estudiantes) Hay muchos estudiantes en esta clase.

Ej: (plumas) Necesito muchas plumas para las clases.

Ejemplos y usos:

II. ¿Cuánto? = how much / how many(*will only be used in question form to modify a

noun)

Ej: (papel) ¿Cuánto papel tienes?Ej: (lápices) ¿Cuántos lápices necesitas?Ej: (ropa) ¿Cuánta ropa quieres?Ej: (carpetas) ¿Cuántas carpetas hay en tu

Exceptions:

III. *Mucho when used as an adverb (to describe a verb) it doesn’t change forms – remains masculine singular and goes after verb

Ej: *used to ask & describe cost¿Cuánto cuesta? Cuesta mucho.

Ej: *used to state a lot with a verb (goes after verb to modify a lot)Me gusta mucho jugar deportes.Me gusta mucho la pizza.Tengo mucho que hacer esta noche.

II. Descriptive Adjectives: These adjectives are used to find out (describe) what people & things are like.

*They agree in number & gender with the noun & go after the noun

*These adjectives are used with the verb SER to form a complete sentence
