STAGE 1 NEWS A warm welcome back to school and Term 4. This term Stage 1 students will continue to work hard in Reading, Writing and Maths warm up routines in their classrooms. In Geography we will be exploring the topic Weather and Seasons. In Science we will be exploring biology in the unit Watch it Grow. In English we continue learning how to compose Persuasive Writing. During Maths lessons we will be learning about whole number, the 4 operations, length, position, patterns and algebra, fractions and decimals, time and 2D shapes.

Home Learning The Stage 1 Home Learning reference card has been revised for Term 4 and has been sent home with your child. A great way to help your child at home is to read with them every day and practise any of the other activities as desired. Please record the activities that

have been completed on the card and return it to the class teacher when complete for a Landy Maryland Merit.

Stage 1 Awabakal Excursion This excursion has been scheduled for Tuesday 5 November 2019 (Week 4). Permission notes were sent home last week and signed permission notes and full payments are due back at school by Monday 28 October 2019. Your prompt attention in this regard would be greatly appreciated so that arrangements can be finalised for the day.

K-2 Assembly Week 3 –1 November, Class 1/2PT will host the Friday assembly for K-2. As well as hosting, they have something to share with us. If you are free from 2pm we would love to see you in the audience.

Hats / Water Bottles A friendly reminder as the weather warms up, all students should have a bucket / wide-brimmed school hat at school to protect them from the sun. Also, they should have a water bottle at school every day that they can refill at the bubbler / drink station. It is very important to keep hydrated and cool in the hot weather.

Stage 1 Assembly Lines Kindly note that when the students line up in the morning and at break times (after recess and lunch time) in the Stage 1 assembly area the expectation is that they will do so calmly, quietly and respectively. We have introduced a reward system (points based) to recognise the classes that do so quickly with minimal or no reminders. Landy tokens will also be issued to individuals who have been identified by all class teachers too.

BAND NEWS Well done band students on an outstanding performance at the performance extravaganza last term! This was the first performance for many and our new members in particular are to be congratulated on their progress.

At the end of term, band members further improved their pieces in preparation for Bandfest at a workshop day. They worked closely with their instrument section on dynamics and articulation before coming together as a whole band. The students had fun working together in teams to solve a musical 'Breakout' challenge where they used clues to open five locks.

Rehearsal changes A reminder that there is NO morning rehearsal tomorrow morning, although lessons will continues as normal.

We are at Bandfest today, so look out for our result next week!

The P&C committee will embrace the Halloween theme and operate a stall offering pies and sausage rolls and some lucky dips. If you are available and keen to assist, volunteers are desperately needed to make this a success. Please consider helping with setting up, selling merchandise or packing up at the event. Assistance is needed from three thirty/four o’clock until approximately eight o’clock. Your consideration and kindness would be most greatly appreciated.
