Shetek Conference Annual Assembly TODAY @ 2:00 p.m.

at Shalom Hill Farm (42194 County Road 3, Windom)

All are welcome to attend the Shetek Conference Annual Assembly, hosted this year at Shalom Hill Farm. Bishop Jon Anderson will be present, and the opening worship will in-clude the installation of newly ordained Pastor Lisa Janke, who along with husband Luke Hollander are the new executive directors of Shalom Hill Farm.

Other conversation topics at the assembly will include the Ondini South Africa Partner-ship, the SW MN Synod “Embrace God’s Mission/Equip God’s People” initiative, and a proposed restructuring of conferences within the synod.

Each Congregation may have up to six members eligible to vote at this meeting. The fol-lowing officers and positions are open on our ballot: Dean (2 year term); Secretary (2 year term), male or female; Engaging Leaders Board; Churchwide Assembly Voting Member, plus First and Second Alternates (clergy male); Churchwide Assembly Voting Member, plus First and Second Alternates (lay male). The Churchwide Assembly will be held Au-gust 5-10, 2019 in Milwaukee, WI, with all travel arrangements made and expenses paid by the ELCA for the voting member.

We invite you to join in some good CLEAN fun on Sunday, March 18th following the movie around 5:00ish. Another production of laundry detergent for our local food shelves will take place, followed by ice cream sundaes. We plan to double our quantity, so your

help is urgently needed.

The Model for Healthy Living- Nutrition

Good nutrition builds strong bodies that leads to being whole people better connected to God. Eating quick and easy meals, (like microwave meals), robs us of a deeper relationship with God, creation, others, and even ourselves. Our experiences of food can draw body and spirit together in healthy ways, by the way we shop, prepare and in the fellowship of the food we eat.

Shopping healthy is one thing, but then how do we prepare it healthfully? We can learn different methods and techniques of cooking by taking classes that teach us how to prepare foods in a variety of healthful ways.

Fellowship is also important part of our meals together. What do we recognize about God and one another when we share a meal together? People that live alone or are depressed need that time of fellowship during a meal, too. Invite someone that is alone to share a meal with you or your family. In 1Cor.10:6 it says, “Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?”

A “Meal in the Upper Room” invitation: Thursday, March 22 at 6:00 is the day for a commemorative “Meal in the Upper Room” that is open to all

members of the congregation and guests. Our Lutheran Women’s organization is hosting the evening and is inviting both men and women for a common meal similar to the Last Supper which Jesus ate with his disciples. The inspirational evening will begin in the sanctuary at 6:00 and move into the Fellowship Hall for the meal including scripture readings and special music. RSVPs are necessary since the event will be limited to 72 people. Please RSVP by March 15 in one of three ways: sign up on the sheets located at both entrances, email Marj Olson at markieole@iw.net or give her a call at 376-5040. Please indicate how many plan to attend. There is no cost or offering for the meal.

Building Vote Passes! At a special congregational meeting on Sunday, February 25, members of American Lutheran Church supported moving ahead with a proposed building and remodeling project. Thank you to all 194 who voted. Of the total number, 143 voted “yes” (74%) and 51 voted “no,” with 125 individuals present at the meeting and 69 individuals voting beforehand in accordance with the absentee ballot provision established.

What’s Next? Miller Architects & Builders will be informed immediately of the decision to move forward with the project. According to a projected timeline provided by Miller, preparation of construction drawings will take until June 15. The Church Council will soon appoint a Building Committee to work with the architect on the final plans. From June 18 to July 9, competitive bids will be sought, including from local contractors. From July 10-31 the bids will

be analyzed, and from July 31 to August 17 contracts will be awarded and construction scheduled. A ground breaking ceremony is tentatively set for August 19, with commencement of construction to follow.

After groundbreaking, the first thing to happen will be the razing of the old office wing. A detailed plan is being developed for vacating that part of the building, with all necessary things finding a new space in the lower level rooms beneath the sanctuary and fellowship hall. Parts of this plan will be put into motion very soon. By early August, offices will be temporarily located in the lower level as well.

Next will come building of the new addition, with sanctuary remodeling coming in early 2019 toward the end of the whole project. Plans have been made for temporary spaces for meetings, adult classes and other needs. During the sanctuary remodeling worship will be in the Fellowship Hall. The estimated completion date for the building and remodeling project is April 8, 2019, prior to Holy Week.

Church Council Seeks Individuals To Serve on Building Committee

At its March 15th meeting, the ALC Church Council will be establishing a Building Committee to work with our architectural firm as construction drawings are prepared and finalized over the next several months. The desire is to appoint a diverse committee of people representing various backgrounds. If you would like to be considered for serving on the Building Committee or a subcommittee, please express your interest and how you think you can contribute to the planning process by calling or emailing congregational president Derek Schmitz at 370-2969 or djs1969@yahoo.com no later than March 14th.

Opportunities for Involvement and Service

SIGN UP SHEETS are at both entrances today to help with the Ecumenical Lenten Luncheon to be held here at ALC on Thursday, March 15th. We anticipate about 70 members of the Christian community will attend the noon worship with lunch to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Your help is needed to provide the food and serve the meal. The menu will be BBQ sandwiches, vegetable and fruit salads and bars. Please stop at the tables to offer your help by providing food or helping in the kitchen. Thanks!

Homebound Communion Visitors Needed; God May Be Calling You

ALC members who are shut-in at home or in care centers appreciate the monthly visits of our Homebound Communion Visitors. Due to some recent changes and additional people desiring to be visited, we are currently in need of additional persons who would be willing to make one or two visits each month. If you would like to learn more about being part of this important ministry, please contact Pastor Gary or Pastor Bailey at 376-5264.
