Loon  Medallion  1979  84.5”  x  87”  Design:  Original  top  design  by  Kathy  Morton  Fabrics:  Cotton  Techniques:    Machine  pieced;  hand  appliqué,  hand  quilted  Maker:    Members  of  Minnesota  Quilters  Comments:  The  center  panel  is  an  appliqued  loon,  with  lake  and  bushes.    It  is  surrounded  with  squares  and  flying  geese  to  represent  paths  through  the  forest.    Corners  contain  North  stars  and  pine  trees.    “Minnesota”  is  quilted  above  the  loon.    The  design  was  selected  as  the  winner  of  a  competition  to  design  a  quilt  for  the  permanent  collection  of  Minnesota  Quilters,  Inc.  MQC  12  11  04    documented  12/11/11
