ESPACIO EN ESPAÑOL

¿No estoy yo aquí? ¿No soy tu Madre? ¿No estás bajo mi sombra?

EASTER SUNDAY WEEK of APRIL 16 - APRIL 22, 2017 5

WE WELCOME INTO OUR CHURCH FAMILY:

Heather Julene Click and Amy Elizabeth Crowe who were baptized during the 9:00 PM

Easter Vigil Mass on April 15.

Loren Taylor Eppinghoff and Sarah Elizabeth Carey who were received into Full Communion

with the Catholic Church on April 15 during the 9:00 PM Easter Vigil Mass.

They received the Sacrament of Confirmation and also made their First Holy Communion.

May the Lord

keep them always, wherever they may be,

faithful members of His holy people.

He is Risen. Let us rejoice!

The Peace of Christ! Some of you may recall that in my Christmas homily, I like to say that Christmas makes no sense apart from Easter. Christ the Light came into the world to die in order to save us from all that is worst in ourselves. “Christ has conquered,” the Exultet of the Easter Vigil proclaims, and Christ’s “Glory fills you,” we hear. The Exultet tells us that Christ continually purifies us of our weaknesses and failures, all that is sinful within us. Christ does that for us as individuals, and Christ does that for us as a Church. We hear in the prophetic Scriptures, “He shall purify” (Malachi 3:3). That is Good News of the greatest magnitude.

As Deacon Bruce noted in his homily for the Fifth Sunday of Lent, none of us has yet experienced the fullness of the Resurrection so it can be difficult for us to comprehend this mystery. But we have hints of it whenever we are lifted, revived, or renewed by encouragement or hope in the midst of all our losses, all our griefs. Let us ‘strain forward’ (Philippians 3:16), as St. Paul says, choosing the hope, peace and confidence that only the Risen Christ can give us!

May we choose this Eastertide to recognize these ‘risen moments’ in our lives for the Greater Glory of God. Alleluia!

DIOCESAN of LEXINGTON ANNUAL APPEAL

The call of every baptized Christian, anointed as priest, prophet, and king, is to exercise stewardship over the resources that we have been blessed with through servant leadership. A servant leader has characteristics that include having a calling, listening, empathy, healing, and awareness. We must unite in Christ to sacrifice our own self-interest for the good of others in need.

Please prayerfully consider your response

to the Diocesan Annual Appeal.
