Suggest is most commonly followed by a that-clause in which the subjunctive is
used: subject + suggest + (that*) + subject + subjunctive
2. Suggest doing something: suggest + gerund
3. Suggest something
This is the form to use when you are talking directly TO someone! However, you do
not need to say who you are talking to.
Explain:
● You explain something TO someone
● You explain TO someone something
Say:
● You say something
● We use say to ask about language
● We use say to report someone's words
Tell:
● You tell someone something
● Tell is usually followed immediately by a person.
● We use tell in indirect questions
● We use tell with some wh- words. You can tell someone where something is,
why something happened, when we want to do something
● You can tell a story or a joke
