38 39 Weight and balance of aircraft loads are paramount for a safe and effective conduct of air operations. An incorrect distribution of transported cargo, as influences the center of gravity, may affect the performance of the aircraft and, eventually, lead to cause an accident. Statistics show this is a rather frequent phenomenon, which has even caused catastrophic events. Therefore, for prevention purposes, it is necessary to act in advance at all levels of the organization, maintaining high situational awareness, improving training and encouraging Team Resource Management. This issue reports a visit to the 61st Wing of Lecce, location of the international school for flight education and training on jets. In particular, we spent a day at the 212nd Squadron, which manages the preoperative training of military pilots, for aerotactic lines, on T-346 aircraft. We entered the fantastic world of the T-346, which has an integrated system with great potential and latest generation equipment. We followed step by step the pilot in a training mission, beginning from the pre-flight briefing up to the debriefing. It was a rewarding experience not only for the flight but also because all personnel was committed to achieving high standards in flight safety. Look beneath the surface, do not miss the quality or the intrinsic value of things. Last September, the Grifone 2018, a joint and interagency training exercise, took place. The exercise aimed to train forces in rescuing personnel after an aircraft crash. The Air Force exploited the scenario to conduct an investigation as training audience. It is a unique event of its kind as it involves military and civilian components, and requires high levels of synergy, interoperability and integration amongst the actors involved in the exercise, resulting in a cost-effective endeavour.
