‘One Year Later’The Longitudinal Impact of Leadnow Events

Coventry UniversitySurvey Results February 2017

Context35 Coventry University students participated in a LeadNow event in January 2016 and rated it exceptionally highly

In February 2017 this cohort was surveyed to ascertain what impact the event had on them one year later

33% sample: 12 survey respondents from a representative sample (1st year to finalists; psychology to arts & design to mechanical engineering)

The results are structured to create a logical story, and some spelling and grammar errors corrected. For complete transparency: every response, to every questions, from every student, is included in this report.

The course made me a lot more reflective. It also showed me the power I have to do anything I want!

When you reflect back on the course, do you feel that Leadnow has made an impact on the way you approach your life? If so, in what ways has it helped you?

Has the LeadNow programme altered your approach to new opportunities (e.g. work, volunteering, life style changes), if so how?

Completely. I've decided to study a completely different course because I realised the course wasn't right for me and wouldn't get me where I wanted to go.

Can you think of a situation where LeadNow has changed your behaviour positively? If so, what was the situation?

I felt like an empathetic person before completing the course. Now I feel that I've grown so much in this and now know a lot more when to listen to others instead of trying to shove my advice on them. Hearing people's view and hopes from all walks of life opened my eyes up incredibly.

Looking back a year after LeadNow, would you recommend the programme to a friend?

Without Fail

No

The programme made an impact on both my ability to manage my own stress

level and increase self confidence when under

pressure.

The course has had a huge impact on me. It

has been the best training I have ever

attended.

Yes, Leadnow has impacted my life in a positive way, but not in a monumental fashion. It has helped open my eyes for the little things, and I have become more attentive to others and small interactions.

Yes it helped me to view life in a more positive way

It was able to instill that feeling of self confidence It definitely made me think

more positively about my everyday activities and how I approach my day or use my time, in order to fully benefit from them and lead myself to success.

Yes it has and I have furtherdeveloped my ownmethods of

approaches to living life

Q6: Has the LeadNow programme altered your approach to new opportunities (e.g. work, volunteering, life style changes), if so how?

7

It gave me the courage to attend in new activities

No.

Yes I have set new goals in life after completing

the programme I'm going to train people about the business because in this area there is a lot to do.

The program has increased my interests

in taking up new challenges.

Yes, volunteering but interms of volunteering tohelp others at random

times of the day

I venture out more trying new things. for

instance got a part time job putting my

intentions out by applying for a part time

work. with much perseverance I got the

job. I fight out negative thoughts when am aware by replacing with positive thoughts and there seems to be

different atmosphere. I meditate and do

exercises.

It helped me to strengthen my already existing motivation to benefit from every new opportunity offered to me and motivated me to be more proactive.

Yes it has because I have decided to pursue what I

desire rather than be following what others have

done.

yes, I have broadened my approach to achieve my goal there is always more than one route

I've started practicing gratitude - I sit every night and think of all the positive things that happened today. That helps me to keep track of key breakthrough moments during the week as well as allows me to reflect whether my actions follow my values.

Q7: Can you think of a situation where LeadNow has changed your behaviour positively? If so, what was the situation?

8

Leadership is aboutbeing effective towardyourself. To impress

others first you have toimpress yourself.

I was less assertive ofmyself. I tend to listenmore in communicationand then respondcarefully withoutpreconceived thought.

I am much more open whenever I talk, for example in a recent project I shared my personal experience and knowledge more with people which allowed great success in the project.

Interaction at university: I decided to become a student representative and be more

involved in university life

I use the repetitive speaking out loud 'Firm,

Powerful, Strong' or other phrases to help me create a desired mindset within

myself.

one of the tools focuses on the power of our own talk and our ability to steer ourselves in the

right direction. I still have a vivid image of the

moment during the programme when I was

proven how powerful this method really is.

Therefore, I adapted it to my everyday life - and

used it recently also when fighting flu! By using one of the tools and speaking with conviction I was able to create a mindset within

myself that supported faster recovery. Other techniques - such as

conscious belly breathing - help me notice when I am stressed and return to the

balanced state.

Yes, after the training exercise I have embarked on different projects, some have been good while others not so good but I don't feel deterred by the outcomes.

It helped meunderstand that everymorning when I wakeup I should feel happyand excited for the dayand do not approach it

with boredom.
