President’s Message

Hello All,

The Lone Cypress Win-nitascans had an outstanding outing in the tiny town of OLEMA... It is not far from San Francisco (as the bird flies). Unfortunately the best road to get there in an RV is a little out of the way. What it lacks in efficiency, it more than makes up for it in beauty.

We had 15 rigs in attendance, and the Wagonmasters did their homework with so many options of sights and local locations to visit. Thanks to Bob Swanson, Betty & Frank Rausch, Jessie Herr, John Beeley, and Marianne & Pete Loeser. We really appreciated everything from the yummy food to the table decorations.

There was an air of mystery when everyone came home from the Thurs-day night restaurant and found that some Goblins left some no tricks, only treats on everyone’s RV steps. One item of importance for the weekend was an auction of items with the pro-ceeds to benefit Marianne & Pete Lo-eser’s daughter, Stacey, who is battling leukemia. I would like to ask any one who can, to please donate to the Go Fund Me Page https://www.gofundme.com/help-stacey-beat-

acute-leukemia?u=19972800.

Don Katsanes was as entertaining as can be auctioning items, most with a retail value of $149.99. Thanks to all that gave and those of you who will give to this worthy cause.

Looking forward to our next outing in November to Greenfield, Until then Safe Travels to all

RV Park Review from Club Standpoint

We talked about doing these so we thought we’d do one while it was fresh in our minds.

LCW club review of Olema Campground

[Jessie Herr with input from all]

Wagonmasters: John Beeley & Jessie Herr, Marianne & Pete

Loeser*, Betty & Frank Rausch, Bob Swanson.

* Part of planning but not at the outing.

Club outing October 2018, 15 rigs. Scouting trip April 2018.

October great weather, warm days, cool evenings. April iffy

weather, flooding possible.

$36/night. Reserve pre-, during, and post-sites. 50% deposit

(based on reserves) 5 months in advance. Copy of reserva-

tion confirmation with terms & conditions on file.

It is a bit of a trek to get here. It took us 2.5 hours outside of

commute hours to get here from Mountain View. Commute

hours would add an hour or an hour-and-a-half. Roads are

winding, a challenge for some larger rigs, and coming

through San Francisco is an issue for some. The recommend-

ed route, especially for larger rigs, is the S. Novato Blvd exit

off 101.

The 15 rigs were situated in two pods (circular groups of

sites). Wagonmaster is responsible for assignment of sites.

There are few full hookups (on-site sewers) so prudent to

check with campers to see if it matters when doing assign-

ment. Sites pretty level but could be muddy. Reasonably

roomy. Our pods – Cedar & Dogwood – were a bit away from

clubhouse so somewhat of a trek (getting in your steps) and

hassle with moving things back and forth. It would be worth-

while to try to get the area near the clubhouse, which has a

central gathering place and full hookups.

The clubhouse, which comes with the reservation, is small. It

supposedly will hold 50 people but we found that it was very

tight with 32. It would be prudent to limit signups to 15 rigs.

The kitchen is small. It has a conventional (not professional)

stove and a conventional (not institutional) refrigerator.

Vol. 46 No. 6 October 2018

There is not much work space in the kitchen (but we did get

it done). Probably best to plan to do minimal cooking. A

barbeque is available. There is a patio outside the clubhouse

with picnic table seating for about 12. There is a room with a

TV and a table (cards) in addition to the dining room.

Campground staff are reasonably accommodating. Restau-

rants and activities (in town and in park) are available. The

area is beautiful. The campground is rustic.

In summary, a park with lots of positives and lots of challenges,.

We agree with review the area is beautiful, the downfall

is the dining room & kitchen is too small for the size of

group we had. Also, a little too far from our rigs to the

gathering area. [Betty & Frank Rausch]
